Petr Cech admits Arsenal failed to find their rhythm during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Sp*rs, and feels as if it’s two points dropped.
Although the Gunners long unbeaten run remained intact, they couldn’t find an answer after Laurent Koscielny’s foul on Dembele allowed Harry Kane the chance to equalise.
“We’re disappointed to have only got one point because we were 1-0 up and in a good position at half-time,” he said.
“It gave us the opportunity to go into the second half and use it to our advantage. The early equaliser in the second half changed the momentum of the game.
“They played with more confidence in the second half and we lost the rhythm a little bit after they equalised. We came back into it but we were too late. We are disappointed to have dropped two points.
“In the last part of the game, we should’ve been calmer in the last five or 10 minutes because we had some opportunities around the edge of their box but we never had the calmness to find the right pass.”
The Arsenal keeper made a fine second half stop to prevent Cristian Eriksen putting them ahead, and says that the team need to maintain their consistency.
“We are in a very good position with a lot of games to be played,” he said. “Obviously you need to make sure you compete for every game.
“If we keep our run going then we will be near the top and will have a chance.”
Never great when we think we could have been top. Lets hope the players all come back from international duty unscathed and Santi is better.
Lots of pleasure from beating an Ibra-less United so let’s hope for that.
I disagree, too much emphasis is going on us missing out on going top yesterday, and in reality that really doesn’t matter until May. The last 10 years we’ve peaked far too soon by getting to the top at Christmas and then we run out of steam in the new year. I think what we need to do is just keep in touching distance of the top, get through the sticky period around Christmas time, and really put our foot down from about late January – Alex Ferguson and his United sides used to win so many league titles that… Read more »
It wasn’t about the performance yesterday, it’s about the two points we were close to getting, which all adds up.
Of course it was. We were so abject for large parts of the game. Partly due to how Spurs set up and our inability to deal with that, and the other part was stage fright. I think the occasion got to us a little bit.
Disappointing result to be honest, should have put Spurs to the sword. What would I not give for Iwobi to have taken that chance when he got one in the first half. Should have been 2-0 and game over at half time.
But these things happen. Have to appreciate Cech’s honesty here. Quite refreshing from the old garb we hear again and again.
Iwobi is growing like a good winger who does not score goals. Taking the ball forward with good combination ability is not good enough for a winger. He is good on the ball but just doesn’t have the thing for goals. Wingers who score goals do so at young age. When Welbeck is back, he need to play as left winger. For now, Ramsey can do a job there.
I guess #shitealongtheroad live to fight another day…. COYG!
I think Iwobi needs rest,as rightly pointed out by Arseblog…but who fills in? Lucas is injured and the Ox(Smh)…sad!!!
I can’t remember the last time one of our keepers saved a penalty.
Cech has saved us a lot of points with some of his saves though.
I think it was in FA CUP, Fabianski?
Fabianski against Bayern(Thomas Muller) March 2014 ?
all the players seem to be hitting them down the middle now (Santi especially). I want our keeper to just stay in the middle and react, but I think that goes against their training/philosophy on PKs.
I am actually angry about the game, we really did flatter the scum. They were there for the taking we just needed to up it a notch, and in the end we looked like we were there for the taking. They are taking the bragging rights from this one unfortunately, but we will share the points. i wonder how we would look with a back 3/5.
Y*d SCUM!
If your last line is what I think it is you should be ashamed of yourself. There’s no place for that in football or anywhere else.
Although I don’t condone its use, I don’t feel the ‘Y’ word is too offensive in this context. I know many Spurs fans wear it with pride.
We’re supposed to be the club with class. Just because some of your Sp*rs friends pride themselves on being called a derogatory term doesn’t mean others should perpetuate it. They’re already muppets for their choice in football clubs, let them be muppets for this, too.
Disgusting language. Take your racist comments elsewhere.
We have to learn not to be scared of psychological games………let the handbrake off and wheeeeeeee!
Although we have the points to show we haven’t played that well thus far. At some point we are going to have to start clicking.
Hopefully we can win the away game. So far we have a loss (Liverpool), a win (Chelsea, Costa HAHA) and a draw (Shittenham hotshit) from top 4 challenging clubs. 2 draws if we count Leicester.
Need to see more W in these 6 pointer games.
Its two points dropped. NO sugar coating. We could have won this had we been a bit more pugnacious. As is we’ve allowed Liverpool and Chelsea to creep ahead and this season being so competitive, every point needs to be banked. We aren’t really in contention with the Great pretenders of NOrth LOndon, We are more focused (should be) on staying within top 2. We also need to be a bit more resilient at home. On that front, it was a dissapointment. The other thing of course, was it would have been massive for us to dent their thus far… Read more »
Kudos for shoehorning ‘pugnacious’ into a sentence.
Is it just me or are many of the commentators on Arseblog News Fight Club fans? You’d think that was the case from all the pseudonyms like “Petite’s Handbag”, “Henry’s Left Foot” and “Bould’s Bald Patch”. If this is the case then I might just change mine to “Wenger’s Medulla Oblongata”. Lemme know chaps. I’m also as big a fan of Fight Club as I am of Arsenal.
What’s the first rule of fight club m8.
Never forget the forehead of Campbell.
Wonderful
Second player to come out and express disappointment, shows the hunger in the squad.
