Report: Sanchez suffers ‘muscular’ injury

According to Chilean sports portal EMOL, Alexis Sanchez has suffered an injury which makes him a doubt for their World Cup qualifier against Colombia on Thursday.

The Arsenal man reportedly left this morning’s training session early after feeling some discomfort, and will be properly evaluated this afternoon.

Chile are due to travel to Colombia today, and if it’s a muscle tear he’s unlikely to make the trip.

The report doesn’t say which muscle is giving him problems, but there are suggestions it might be a torn calf. That, obviously, would be a blow for Chile but even more so for Arsenal.

We’ll update when there’s more information. November, grrrrr.

UPDATE

EMOL report Alexis has suffered a ‘contracture in the femoral triceps’, definitely a calf injury, and he’s out of the game against Colombia.

However, it looks as if he’s going to be able to play against Uruguay, the problem is described as minor.

Of course. We’d been relatively lucky this season in the injury department, by our standards anyway. It was never gonna last.

If he is injured that surely means Giroud will be starting up front again, with no fit striker on the bench. 3 strikers out at once, so Arsenal that is. There’s always one position which gets fucked at one time.

Saurabh Sharma

Hoping Chuba gets a chance and does to united what rashford did to us

Tom

Chuba’s stick injured. Sanogo is probably fit though…

Stevegooner

Chuba has a stress fracture to his back. He’s out for months

Tom Gun

He’s injured! Hence the comment about 3 strikers out at once; Sanchez, Lucas and Chuba. Giroud is sounding and looking hungry and will be keen to impress. We have Walcott as well if need be. Our squad is good, deep and well-rounded. Sanchez is MASSIVE for us and will be a huge loss but it does not sound like he’s out for a very long time. This is NOT a disaster. Calm down everyone!!

PFo

Not a disaster until he plays next week against Colombia, aggravates the injury, and is out for two months. It will happen. The 2016-17 season was fun while it lasted…

PFo

*Plays against Uruguay rather.

MyGee

Tom Gun where did you leave Welbz?

Liam

Let’s not forget Danny Welbs

igbo Amadi-Obi

That would be 4 strikers then. So easy to forget Welbeck these days. 🙂

Burn Baby Burn

Naturally we don’t have Lucas who would be a more like-for-like. Luvs me some Giroud, but I think we’ve really been enjoying the pacy, crafty forward versus target man this season.

IamaGoober

Things is those reports from the Chilean FA mean fucking jack shit anyway considering they fucking knew he was injured last year but they still fucking played him anyway.

We will get him back off them next week and Alexis’ legs will still be smoking

Hank Wankford

Here we go again… ?

Goonermonkey

What is the flipping point of international football?

George

To make money for FIFA with which to line their pockets.

ForeignGooner

International tournaments.

David C

here’s the solution:
Only have World Cups! Euro, African, and other federation championships should just be the qualifying for the world cup. Kind of ridiculous that the moment a major tournament takes place all of these teams have then start qualifying for another one. There must be a way to combine all of these.

Over in Canada, my beloved Toronto FC (who killed Vieira’s NYC) now have to wait until almost December to continue with the MLS semi-finals because of this stupid interlull.

kierangibbs'legs

I am hoping this is done as a precaution. And hopefully he will recover during the whole international break.

If not, we’re starting Giroud up top and going back to the old system, which I don’t mind to be honest. But what’s with these major injuries to our squad every fucking year!?

Gooooooooooooona

I’d even be tempted to throw iwobi as a striker with ox and Walcott just wide of him. He played that position a lot in the youth ranks and it would completely trip Cunt Mourinho out. But to be fair, iwobi is looking like a youngster that needs to be taken out of the firing line for a couple of games just to get his mojo back, so who knows. Either way, November is here and I suppose it’s time for history to repeat itself ?

Armchair Expert

FFS!

King 14enry

I bet google trends has seen a large spike in the search: How long of a recovery is a torn calf?!

What the shuddering fuck is this!? Please, please oh great Flying Spaghetti Monster, let this be precautionary…

Frog

Of course.

Arsenal's Vardy

Its all a master plan by Wenger to rest Sanchez during this interlull. Watch him come flying out against Utd cunts and score a hattrick

Gunners

I hope that’s the case. I remember Fergie used to do that a lot, and look at how much he benefited (particularly during the second half of seasons).

Gio

No way would that be the case in this situation. Chile need Alexis as they aren’t doing great in the qualifiers, and Alexis himself loves playing for Chile so there’s no chance of Arsene getting him to rest during this break.

SB

We should be finding the games to rest him, despite the temptation to play him all the time.

Gooooooooooooona

I’m pro wenger but every season he refuses to rotate and ends up injuring our players or we lose because the players are fatigued. Tuesday was a game we chased the whole time and was very tiring for the players. then he practically goes and plays the same squad minus 2 or 3 a couple of days later. You don’t need to be a genius to have noticed our players looked fatigued as hell against sp*rs. This nonsense about finding the right team and playing them every game till the system collapses really drives me mad. We need to start… Read more »

Vincent Kompanys Forehead

With Sanchez i get the feeling Wenger tried to rest him when needed and sanchez says no. Its great that he wants to play but at the same time he can prolong his career by being clever about when he plays. It strikes me that Sanchez can be quite petulant when being subbed and wanting to play all the tine

Nasris wallet

Might galvanise the rest of the squad. Let’s hope other take responsibility. I think this Bovembers gonna be a good one. Could of lost against the Scum at the weekend, but didn’t. Let’s stay positive and stuff Jose right up the cunt next Saturday!

Third Plebeian

Ah yes, the bovine calendar. Bovember falls between Cudtober and Grassember, I believe.

Parisian Weetabix

Hope we sign a new forward in the Janudairy transfer window, anyone herd any rumours?

Third Plebeian

I hear we’re signing the new Calfu.

Nasris wallet

Carll

NOOOOOOOOOOÒOÒOÒÖOOOOOO.

LongRangeGunner

Shit

Papas

Jesus wept! Guys this is serious now: a ceremonial sacrifice is required here…at least 27 goats, 13 sheep, 15 chickens and 7 hamsters…and one John Terry…

Exiledgooner

I think any passing deity would be mightily offended if we offered up John Terry to them. Burning him as an offering is hardly a sacrifice; more like making our lives down here in the mortal realm that bit more pleasant! Jxxxx

Exiledgooner

Sorry, that last bit is how I sign my text messages. Not really awake today.

Papas

Who said anything about burning him?

Carlos_Santana

Nothing more tormenting than the international break..

KO

Just read the update, came a little (lots)

Paul

Injury Gods just stop it ffs!

wilson mughogho

Lets him recover quickly and play for Arsenal next game

Timisrightfoot

At least he will only play one game during an interlull- blessing in disguise perhaps

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

maybe he will miss both game which will be even better

Mike

Strained hand from signing the contract?

OneBeatOff

Precautionary… please.

Stewart Robson's therapist

Oh well, the world’s about to end tonight anyway.

Russ

Just stick him in the next plane plane home where he can chill out for a week and rest

Big Dave

It’s probably press bollocks and very minor. Money says he’ll play in Arsenals next game.

Rochester

No such as triceps femoris. Biceps femoris is one of the hamstring muscles. Dodgy translation. Hope it’s very minor

Phil

Triceps femoris is a group of anterior thigh muscles (three in fact). It usually is a minor injury. Fingers crossed

Rochester

excuse me while I nerd out here for a minute.
Quadriceps femoris are the 4 anterior thigh muscles. (Rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, and the vastus medialus oblique or VMO) Hamstrings are posterior and are comprised of the biceps femoris, semi-tendinosis and semi-membranous. Not that it matters…

Lord Bendtner

November November. Always you remember…

santori

Small injury. Hopefully it carries through injury break and he’s ready for the big one against the Manchester scum (the other ones).:D

Arsepedant

Breathing a sigh of relief at the update. It’s a very minor injury and he’ll only play one match in the interlull. By the time he gets back to us he’ll be fine.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

or he can aggravate the injury by playing and instead of minor one it would become 1 month as report are stating today.

PFo

Wow, that’s naively optimistic.

Espen

Sanchez, for the love of football please sit out until you are fit again to kick a ball.

AusDrexler

Its a tough one.. i am sure the Chilean public want to see their superstar play for their country as much as Arsenal supporters want him to play for Arsenal.

I do however think qualifying for world cups and confederation events is too long. There has to be a easier method, hell an FA Cup style knockout (although home and away a must) til you get down to 32 teams then they make the World cup.

Hope
