Arsene Wenger says he supports the idea of Germany not calling up Mesut Ozil for their World Cup qualifier with San Marino and friendly with Italy.
Rumours in the German press suggest the Arsenal midfielder will be given a 13-day breather after Sunday’s North London derby; a decision potentially dictated by the Premier League’s lack of a winter break.
Speaking to at his pre-Sp*rs press conference the boss said he’d welcome such a decision.
“I got noise of that, yes. I think it would be an intelligent decision. I’d welcome the decision.
“We have to wait until he [Joachim Loew] gives his selection out to see if Mesut Ozil will get a rest or not.”
Ozil has been in sparkling form this season scoring seven goals in 13 games to help the Gunners to level top on points in both the Premier League and their Champions League group.
Germany have won all three of their World Cup qualifiers so far and sit top of Group C, two points ahead of Azerbaijan.
Let’s hope that booger eater makes the right decision.

Chile sits at 5th place. Not yet qualified for WC. There is absolutely no possibility of Sanchez getting any rest whatsoever!

I think it would be more of convincing Sanchez rather than Chile FA
This is good. We have lots of midfielders, but only one Ozil.
Sanchez needs a rest too. I wasn’t expecting him to start last night. Hopefully he doesn’t burn out soon.
We shouldn’t be relying/hoping that Chile does similar to Germany to rest Alexis.
As a number of of people have commented, Chile are not in as comfortable position as Germany are in the WC qualification.
It’s in our interest to find the right opportunity to rest him, ourselves.
Although, Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar and others play regularly in Spain, the effort required in the Premier league is higher, plus there is no winter break.
Great news. This international break is usually the one where we have players injured to kick off the dreaded November.
I’m English so I’m supposed to hate Germany, but the German FA really seem to know how to do things well. Faith in a manager (even if he is a bit weird), a proper style of play, bringing in young talent, resting tired players. It’s almost as if they’ve got some common sense.
They also have an array of exciting midfielders that are playing brilliantly. The likes of Julian Draxler, the Benders, Reus didnt even feature much in the Euros and are very good substitutes for first 11 team.
Once Henderson, Lallana, Sterling are out, we have to rely on nonces like Andros Townsend, Milner, Carrick, Barkley etc.

Barkley has some talent in fairness but more pertinently we have Wilshere and Ox who rarely get the nod at CM. Yet we would rather play a literal ogre in midfield (or in Allardyce’s own words, wherever he wants!) and then we wonder why we can’t beat Iceland! We also had Iwobi up until the U19 and then for some bizarre reason never promoted him and now he’s playing for Nigeria. Good for him, sadly. Right now the national team is absolute poison

After reading the headline I initially thought Wenger meant he was resting Ozil for the derby which would obviously just be mindgames.

This would be perfect for Ozil, getting a good two week rest before the away game at Manure. Unfortunate Sanchez can’t get something similar but I think you would have to tie the guy down to stop him from playing!

I think Löw knows that a rested Özil on a successful Arsenal Side is far more important than a friendly and a game against San Marino. Özil tends to shine a lot more when he and the club he plays for is in good form. And Özil carries like other players what form he has to the national Team aswell. It could basically mean that he would have a Özil in perfect Form for far more important qualifiers next year.
Does this make Low a sensible target to replace Wenger? At the end of the day we like intelligence in our football.
