Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mathieu Debuchy will be out action until next year because of the hamstring strain he picked up against Bournemouth last weekend.
The French international lasted just 15 minutes of his first game of the season, and his first Arsenal appearance for over a year, before being replaced by Gabriel.
Updating on the team news at his press conference today, the Arsenal manager said “Debuchy has a severe hamstring injury, he’ll be out for six weeks. It’s frustrating for me, but even more for him. He fights hard, has an exceptional attitude and is very serious.
“Overall, he is absolutely disappointed, but he’s is as well a fighter and he will fight to come back.”
Wenger was then asked if the injury would rule out the player leaving on loan in January, he said, “Yes, of course. We’re now in December. Until mid-January he will not be available.
“He’s always a quicker healer than expected, Mathieu. You know, people asked me why I didn’t play him against PSG. I had the temptation to play him, but he had only 70 minutes in the U23.
“It was maybe even a bit early after, but usually he recovers quickly.”
Good luck to him, it’s another big blow for him and already teammates have spoken how it’s all getting a bit much. Let’s hope he does recover quickly.
Step up Corporal Jenks. And stand ready private Maitland-Niles…
Ainsley time
I suspect we will see Gabriel start at right-back tomorrow. Far from ideal but it might help us to deal with Carroll’s height from set-pieces.
Forget all this corporal Jenkinson etc the guy is not Arsenal quality. I’m an Arsenal fan that don’t give me the right to play. Maitland Niles showed much better quality in 20 mins than Jenkins has since he came back
Doesnt give you the right or the qualifications to decide who is good enough either!
