Mertesacker: A problem shared …

Per Mertesacker says his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury is going well, and that it helps when you have others in the team who are going through the same thing.

The BFG did some of his recovery back home in Germany, but is back on the training pitch now aiming for a return to action in January.

He didn’t name names but obviously Danny Welbeck has been sidelined since April with a meniscus problem, and Mertesacker believes a bit of camaraderie in the treatment room is a positive thing for those going through it.

“It helps to have a couple of other players who are going through the same process as you too,” he said.

“You’re all frustrated you’re all feeling impatient and you’re all living through the same problems while you’re out.

“I’m back outside running now, and it feels great, especially to be back with the lads again. My knee has responded well to the intensity so far.

“We’re loading the knee in a moderate way and now the next step is to put a bit more weight and pace on it. We’re not forcing anything but I feel it’s progressing well.

“Running outside again gives me a huge boost and I hope that it continues to progress well.”

It’s still unclear exactly when he’ll be back, but perhaps the FA Cup game against Preston might be a good target.

Great news. We need you Mert because the season is long and hard, but I get the feeling we can just nick the EPL this season.

Ozil's Assist!

Get well soon BFG! We’ll surely need you in the deep end of the season.

Great news. Definitely a key player and a great leader in amongst the squad. Unlikely to get pissy about starting places either. He has enough experience to know he will be involved plenty over the course of a hectic season.

Sidkid

Funny when he says we need to put more pace on it

Remember the dark old days where we were one CB injury away from a Silvestre, a Sendoros and a Squillaci…

Now it’s the BFG, Gabriel and Holding!
