Reports have surfaced claiming Arsenal are keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar’s 16-year-old goalkeeper Jasper Schendelaar.
The highly-rated prospect, a regular for the Dutch under-17 side, made history in pre-season when he became AZ’s youngest ever debutant while still 15. He went on to sign a new contract on his birthday in September committing his future to the club until 2019.
Tuttomercatoweb claim the Gunners want to steal a march on other suitors by doing a deal for Schendelaar in January. While the Italian site is not a source we’d usually trust, we’re inclined to believe there’s a kernel of truth…otherwise, it’s just weirdly left-field. That said, in these days of post-truth fake news, who knows.
It’s pretty obvious that this lad wouldn’t be challenging for a first team spot anytime soon if he did join us. In addition to first team trio Petr Cech, David Ospina and Emi Martinez, there’s also Wojciech Szczesny on loan and the likes of Matt Macey, Hugo Keto and Deyan Iliev waiting in the wings.
off topic and i know 99% not happening but would draxler be a perfect player for our left wing. he could be that extra player we need to assist our buildup play and the way alexis and walcott play. i know iwobi sort of fills that give and go role but he’s still finding his feet. ox is much more of a winger and direct. draxler would be a new option. mind you i know we are heavily stocked up top
I don’t see it happening. The thing is we got Ox and Iwobi and they both play with our style and fast pace. I dont see Draxler making as fast, pacey runs on the wing. True that Ox and Iwobi are not world class, at least not yet. And Alexis and Ozil and Cech and Kos have showed us the importance of having world class players on your squad. Draxler is not outright world class, although he definitely has potential, but I do worry that Draxler would be a signing that would affect our pacey attacks negatively. If I want… Read more »
Not much on arsenal today aye!!! At least Theo is quite and focusing on training! Hahaha hope they can contain there excitement before the city game
Is there any more to these latest Draxler rumours? Or are we throwing them on the same shit-heap that the past three season’s Draxler rumours have been consigned to?
If there was anything worthwhile, you can expect blogs and newshound to smell it.
As long as there is no article on Arseblog News, the rumours are not worth it.
Also, with the squad we have there is no way Wenger would dip into the winter transfer market. He likes the internal solutions and external deals that provide top, top…value.
Not sure if I was in his shoes if I would take a deal with Arsenal when you are allready well on your way to establish yourself as a starter in Eredivisie in the near future.
I think he will grow alot more from playing proffessional football regularly there than being the number 5 goalkeeper at Arsenal.
And if he does his stuff well in Eredivisie he might in a few years be picked up by a Premier League, Bundesliga club etc as their number one goalkeeper instead.
It is frankly laughable to suggest a 16-years-old’s path to the first team would be long because Arsenal has some youth team goalkeepers around the place. Name checking first team regulars, especially relatively young and experienced and/or promising ones, is reasonable. But do you not think Arsenal could be interested in the player precisely because they rate him higher than those other players currently in house? Citing youth team players as “depth” is just silly.
Off-topic- But watched the entire Everton match again. I concluded that: 1- The loss does not fall into the “same old Arsenal” pattern some of the pundits(Michael Owen types) want to claim. Everton just had a very determined effort at home where they have not lost this season. 2- The result would have been different if some chances created were taken. 3- I cannot fault the effort of the team. Some things just did not fall into place. 4- I believe a team with just one loss in the last 14 league games must be doing something right. I am… Read more »
Spot on. We needn’t feel discouraged by this loss. However, if I had to nitpick, Gabriel is a technically accomplished defender but there seem to be communication problems in the back line with him in it. Case in point, Koscielny and him going for (Lukaku?) while letting Coleman steal in behind them.
