Arsene Wenger says that Mohamed Elneny will miss at least four games as he’s been called into the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in January.
The tournament is being held in Gabon and the 24 year old will be involved until the end of the group stages on January 25th.
That means he’ll miss the Premier League encounters with Bournemouth, Swansea and Burnley, as well as the FA Cup match against Preston North End.
Should Egypt progress beyond that, he’ll be absent for further matches, with the final taking place on February 5th.
Elneny has made 18 appearances so far for the Gunners this season, but with Aaron Ramsey back again, his departure is somewhat offset.
It’s your chance Ramsey
Very different players both of them… I get the sentiment but I’d rather have Ramsey starting on merit and a deliberate strategy rather than someone’s unavailability.
Bring Rambo back, I miss him!
Xhaka + Rambo will rock this January.
As expected, he will be missed.
COYG… ARSENAL COME FIRST…
For once, a player missing matches not because of injuries. After reading the title, I feared that Elneny may have bruised his stomach when getting off the bed in the morning, or something. Such an occurrence is not beyond the realms of arsenal fc.
haha, was thinking the same thing!
Why does the African cup occur every 2 years when most federations do one every 4 years?
Does that make it “clickbait” Bloggs? Just saying…
Nothing personal Egypt but i hope you go out early.
Come to think of it, might make Blogs happy too. That RamXhaka midfield is edging ever closer 🙂
Is iwobi involved too? If so do we not look a little light in midfield?
Nope, Nigeria didn’t qualify
Nigeria did not qualify for the tournament so Iwobi will still be available.
Don’t think they qualified
Egypt knocked out Nigeria to qualify if I remember correctly.
Shame it wasn’t the case that neither qualified, but we can certainly afford to be without Elneny more than we can afford to be without Iwobi; the wings are a little light in terms of depth.
No, Nigeria have not qualified.
I hear Nigeria didn’t qualify
Yes it does leave us light!
Does anyone know if Nigeria qualified?
NO NIGERIA DEFINETLY DID NOT QUALIFY.
Yeah they definitely didn’t not qualify
They did unfortunately
I hope everyone understands that
Did Nigeria qualify?
I’m Egyptian we definitely defeat Nigeria. Nigeria did not make it
When will Danny Welbeck be back?
I’m Nigerian
Nigeria didn’t qualify
Are you sure?
How often does this tournament occur? Seems every January its on. Surely having it every four years like most tournaments would be more beneficial
Based on previous responses, it would appear that Nigeria did not qualify!
Did Nigeria qualify? Can’t seem to find that information anywhere.
I got an email from a Nigerian prince and was told that if I sent him $400 they’d qualify.
We knocked Nigeria out.
Really like Elneny. He fit in right away with us and haven’t heard anything from him about lack of minutes. Excellent squad player and hope he has a excellent run with Egypt.
Excited for the possibility of xhaka and Ramsey midfield in games that teams park the bus though. We have to get three points in a row for awhile and hopefully teams above us drop points obviously.
Last but not least I am over the moon Danny Boy is back and think he may be the missing link up front! COYG!
For reals now, did they qualify or do I need to pay the $400 for them to qualify.
Don’t be an idiot by paying it, we need Iwobi in the next few games.
Is Alex Iwobi also going to the tourney???
