The Mert

Alexis was at 11 today!!!

STEVE

Sanchez what a player!! BTW I keep hearing these rumors Ozil keeps fueling this Real Madrid rumors and got me thinking I would hate to lose Ozil then until my West Ham UTD friend asked me if I had to choose and if I could only keep one out of Sanchez and Ozil who would I keep at the club and that got me in a really tough situation. And I thought why not ask everyone else. I think I would keep Sanchez but thats just me. I would like to know what you guys think

igbo amadi-obi

Alexis for me, without doubt.

Godfrey Twatschloch

Özil for me.

The comment that didn't get published on Arseblog News

The lack of ambition here, tst tsk tsk.

I’d keep the two of them.

To achieve this, I would first tie down to a long-term contract the manager who signed them both.

Hank Wankford

Hell yeah…!

raron_aamsey

Thought Ramsey was really crucial in steadying the game and getting out foot on the ball when he came on. After a poor midweek performance I was glad he showed the idiots who think he’s a waste of space how valuable he can be.

loose_cannon

Agreed, thought he had a very good game when he came on. Same guys saying we should sell him probably think we should sell Ox and Theo too. Maybe they should get behind the team instead!

ClockEndRider

Who knows, maybe the knee jerk reacting, Talkshite listening masses who reacted in such a puerile fashion after we lost our least important match of the season the other day now may understand why we saved some of our players for a match that actually mattered. I doubt it, given the general level of stupidity out there but I live in hope.

La Défense

Give it a rest. It’s all about Alexis & the Ox today. The Xhaquelin axis did great too. Oh, and Ozil scored another goal. Me thinks Ramsey’s looking at a long period of warming the bench – for the good of the team.

Skotuah

Arsblog gave you a head start of 20 thumbs up but your comment will soon be hidden. Keep Ramsey away from the starting 11.

David Kushner

I agree Ramsey is a role player for now. Hopefully he can gain some confidence and momentum and translate that into some first class performances. Maybe start by playing for the team tracking back and doing the stuff that isn’t fun and isn’t always spoken about but it doesn’t go unnoticed.

BromleyGooner

“Really crucial”?? Stop embarassing yourself. He did ok when he came on. The crucial players today were others. I wonder what kind of comment you would have made if he had got the fifth or sixth goal. He would have probably be on par with Alexis. As long as he is used off the bench and the starting xi is picked on merit I am happy.

La Défense

Ramsey’s confidence is on Messi’s level. His footballing ability is closer to Jenkinson’s level.

Frank Bascombe

‘Really crucial’ please keep embarrassing yourself.

Canador

Don’t fool yourself. His overall performance was not great. He is not Arsenal’s calibre and also not in the same wavelength with other midfielders in the team.

Holic

Can’t get over that feint and chip goal…sign da ting Alexis!! !

mashkeyboardgetusername

You know, I’m really starting to think there might be something to this “actually playing Xhaka” malarkey. I bet I’m the first person to think of this and everything.

Uri

Nobody tell Ox it’s not preseason

Campbell's forehead

Shhh, he can hear you.

Tomek

The Ox is finally coming into form. Batten down the hatches!

InTheNorthBank

So good to see his burst of acceleration and confidence back!

Gunnersaurus's Lover

That has to be one of the greatest Arsenal hatricks I’ve ever seen. On par with Bergkamp vs Leicester

Nairobi's_DB10

I missed the game coz of work, and this is the day Alexis decides he is going for a 10/10 rating on arseblog…

Ex-Priest Tobin

Nice to see Gabriel play well. I hope he is a success at Arsenal, as he has such a likeable personality and some of the abuse he took last season regarding his English was utterly disgusting.

There’s a really good feeling about the club at the moment, but I can’t help have the feeling in my mind that the inevitable trademark Wenger collapse may be just around the corner. Can’t get my hopes up, I suppose.

true gunner

Overgenerous with walcott ratings, ramsey came on and the game change in Arsenal favor.

Uba

With everyone fit and available, Ramsey should not be in Arsenal’s starting 18

Alex

Why only 7 for Mesut?

bakagooner

Bonus score ought to go to fernandinho for the smack down on the sissy DNA-boy . Also hope the FA charge both cesc and fernan coz cesc started it with a faceslap …

loose_cannon

Interesting on Walcott, agreed he struggled to get into the game but I thought his movement was superb and he was always an option. Saying that, one of the things I’ve been most impressed with him this season is his willingness to get involved in the build up play, make the one-twos with Sanchez and Ozil. That was missing today and you could maybe put that down to the lack of Bellerin. He’s still doing his shift defensively but he’s reverting in a creative sense lately, needs to try and make things happen on the ball again like earlier in… Read more »

A Different George

I think Theo tried to play in Gabriel a couple of times, and it did not work the way it does with Bellerin. Gabriel fully deserves the praise he is getting here for his defensive work in an unfamiliar position, but he is not able (yet?) to play the position the way Hector (or a fit Debouchy) does. And that affects, among other things, Moustafi’s passing out from the back and Theo’s runs into scoring areas.

Stringer Bell

Team look so much more creative and together without Ramsey.

eduardo

didn’t we score 4 of our 5 goals after Ramsey came on

ClockEndRider

That’s outrageous. How can you let the facts get in the way of a pre determined narrative…..

BromleyGooner

Is creativity measured by goals scored? Even if it were (and it isn’t) is whether the opposition is chasing the game or not relevant? That’s outrageous. How can you let an incorrect assumption get in the way of a pre determined narrative…

Stringer Bell

I think they call that well and truly trumped Bromley, many thanks. The creativity was there to see in the first half but it seems some don’t want to see it.

ClockEndRider

No, quite simply Walcott reverted to type and spent the match hiding, to the extent that taking him off and putting Ramsey on meant we went from playing with 10 to playing with 11.

Gary Baldy

Gabriel, I am so glad for him, he really looks like he can at least fill in at right back and still got forward as well. He looked so lost as a centre back for a while and it is always nice to see a player come good, so far at least. Alexis and The Ox, brilliant. I love how Alexis isn’t selfish and looks to play others in. An all round player. greart to see Ox getting a storming goal and showing some confidence despite a wayward cross in the first half. I am really rather hopeful he will… Read more »

CLEGooner

I misread that as “got forward as hell”.

Which he did.

PeteyB

Aye, he did alright, though one of those moments he got forward he lumped a loopy cross all the way to the opposite corner and I thought ‘that’s the cross of a centre back’… then Alexis scored (his first I think) and I no longer cared.

Westhammered

I felt the Ox was our second best player offensively. Would rate him higher.

wellarsed

Amid the – entirely deserved – praise for Alexis, I would also give a shout out to Gabriel. I thought he did well today – playing out of position – and took a few serious knocks for the team (which he shrugged off).

Raja

I think people are a bit harsh on Coquelin, thought he did really well today ( besides the booking), and he was rather tidy on the ball. Not sure 6.5 does him that much justice

BromleyGooner

Couldn’t agree more. He did so much invaluable high pressing. He has to take credit for the first goal too where he pressed and got the ball back for Alexis

Arsefull

Yes Le Coq was disciplined and excellent other than his brain fart moment kicking the ball away for the yellow card. I was really interested to see how Xhaka and Coquelin would mesh and while their partnership is a nascent one, I hope they continue to gel. They are a nuggety pairing and Xhaka can, as Wenger said, pass through the lines and set Alexis and his speedy teammate hounds free. Fun game to watch and a great result including a nice 4 goal increase in our goal differential.

Arsenalnut

Coquelin anticipated and intercepted opposition passes early and often. He tackled brilliantly. He dribbled out of tight spaces as tidily as Santi does. He passed to the playmakers in space almost immediately. What more could he have done? Admittedly the yellow was the result of abject stupidity but it did not hurt us in any way. I gave him an 8. Not sure why he received less.

RosaLegend

Alexis deserves a Spinal Tap score! 🙂

Shkod Goals

Nacho could’ve had 3 or 4 assists.. filling that void left by Bellerin beautifully.

Glen Helders left foot

We have to keep Alexis……give him whatever he wants

Adams Jnr

I’ve been seeing this so much lately – what Alexis wants though is to win a title and the champions league trophy. If we can show that we can achieve at least one of those goals he’ll sign for sure.

Canador

I can’t agree with you less. That is where it saddens me to see some of these mediocre players like Ramsey and sorts doing virtually nothing. Sanchez makes things happen. We do not have much like him in the team.

Glen Helders left foot

Should of brought Perez on when the game was won

LBCStyles

I said it last week – I’ll say it again … Aaron Ramsey not starting = better football … He played well when he came on but I think that might be his best role on the team going forward, an impact sub … Xhaka has to start now … Giroud must be a bit worried – even though he’s been producing there’s no way he gets a start … Sanchez is another level … Good games from Gabriel, Coquelin, and Nacho … What a way to close out the game …

Ebo

Please watch the performance from the Coq again, it was superb, certainly worth much more than a 6.5. I’d also be interested to see what the stats have to say, I thought he was the second best player on the pitch.

Ebo

Yep, the stats indeed support the ‘theory’ that he had a fantastic game:

That Coquelin “tackle” which led to Arsenal’s first goal – Opta recorded it as a blocked pass but that was just one of the great things Coquelin did on the night. He led Arsenal with 12 ball recoveries, led Arsenal with 5/5 tackles (fouls don’t count as tackles, though he only had the one which was a “yellow”), led Arsenal with 6 interceptions, dribbled 3/3 times, led arsenal in being fouled with 3, and even set up a shot.

(from elsewhere on this site)

Shank

By my reckoning when we play City, they will be without Aguero and Fernandinho……..anyone agree with that? Watched MOTD tonight and I have to say City were unlucky against Scum 2 (Man U are Scum 1). Anthony Taylor (as usual) couldnt make a decision early on………Luiz on Aguero, last man , deliberate foul, ignored beautifully by Anto. Later on, Fernandinho and Aguero , had to go, but Fabregas ( sly little chap, used to love him), shudda gone as well ( might still face a sanction if the FA have any credibility, for a sly slap on Fernandinho). Finally ,… Read more »

DB's first touch

ANthony was crap…also thought the Chelsea player who shoved aguero should have received a red card as well instead of a yellow

Fireman Sam

Not the first time I’ve seen Dele Alli dive but that one was truly embarrassing. What a little cheating turd he is

COYG1001

Ox was great. In Sant’s absence, his dribbling and creativity were great pluses, and may have made it easier to play Coq and Granite. Balance and all that, as the Prof would say.

I AM ARSENAL

Monreal was good..A bit more care on his delivery (when to go high or low or cutback or go deep) and he would have loads of assists..Despite not going forward as frequently as Bellerin he produces just as many good moments, the timing of his overlaps are perfect. Impressed with Gabriel today..Real solid performance and was not half bad when he got up the itch…Think its over for Jenko now. Xhaxa and Coq were exceptional i thought…They allowed the front four to go and press high..Battled well in the middle of the park as you have to do against West… Read more »

PFo

Excellent summary, the best on here so far in my opinion. I would only add: 1. Ramsey always looks much better when legs are tired and the game is stretched (especially when the opponent is chasing the game), in contrast to when opponents are sitting deep and space is tight: his great energy levels allow him to get up and down the pitch, the fast-paced back-and-forth suits his, shall we say, less-than-perfectly-careful use of the ball, and his sometimes erratic touch and passing is less problematic when there’s more space around. This really isn’t meant as a criticism of him… Read more »

DB's first touch

The Ox also played a couple nice through balls to Alexis which seem to have gone unnoticed

Kirk the 70s pin up

Koscielny won that match. Just watched it for second time (kids ruined first) and the boss would be the hardest to replace. Absolute legend

Dan Abes

Can you change Ramsey’s evaluation to:

Came on (at 1-0), did fine (won 5-1).

Cheers.

Matt P

I agree with the ratings other than I’d give Ozil a 6 – only ‘quite good’ for me today – and I’d give Walcott 5

PFo

Totally disagree. Ozil was a 7.5 or 8. I wish we had one of those youtube videos which just cuts to every time he had the ball during the game, as I think it’d show just how effective he was. Barely made a mistake on the ball all game, so smooth and assured in possession and transitioning us from defense to attack, weight and choice of pass is consistently exceptional, and he’s added great running in behind to his game too. All in all, a truly astounding performance from Alexis put Ozil’s performance in the shade today, but he was… Read more »

Matt P

Disagree. He was quiet for much of the game and there were decent periods when he and the team looked quite flat. Yes of course he made some nice passes but I watched him closely off the ball and his work rate was fairly average.
The score line flatters us – there was some individual brillance and some very ordinary West Ham defending.
Don’t get me wrong though it was a good performance with a couple of outstanding individual performers.

Rob

WH were doubling up on Ozil often and he split the defenders and drew fouls quite often. He wasn’t back heal air flick to striker in run stride Ozil. But he was, Johnny on the spot, I’m here when you need me wherever you need me Ozil. He made those poor midfielders of WH run an extra 3 miles with his movement off the ball alone, lol. Ozil’s movement is why at the end of the game there was over 40 yards in the middle of the park with empty green grass. WH midfielders too tired to chase any longer.

PFo

1. I don’t think the scoreline flattered us at all.

2. I guess I don’t think a player’s work rate being average (assuming for the sake of argument that that was in fact the case) disqualifies them from receiving a 7.5 or 8 rating. Ozil’s not really in the side for his work rate…

Simon

Only worry is that we saw the return of the Walcott of old today.

COYG1001

Walcott still worked hard for the team. That’s a constant for him this year, which wasn’t the case last year. I’ll take it! The team is way better for it, even when he isn’t as effective going forward.

Gary Nicholls

Pay the money and keep both

Jack4343

That was a such a pathetic showing by West Ham that if my eyes were a bit worse, I’d have though we were playing last year’s Aston Villa squad. Anyway, a little slow to solidify the points but that was a beautiful performance in the second half. Blogs was spot on, it was like we had two Alexis’ out there!

Aran Watson

Amazing today. Really like our starting line up, bringing ‘ballerin’ back when ready, and I think Danny on the left instead of the Ox. That would be a fast and fun front four!

Chamakh

Let Ox keep his place! Dat guy on the right instead of Walcott

PFo

Better: Ox on the right and Welbeck on the left. Ox’s crossing much better from the right.

Vescucci

Weird some of us are fighting with each other after a win like this

Matt P

Fighting? Relatively Minor differences of opinion?
Can fans not tolerate different opinions?
Gee we’d be a totalitarian state/club if we all had to have the same opinion…

dholio

The only complaint from today is that we should have had more goals in the 1st half. But we kept calm, played our football and got our just rewards in the 2nd half.
Giroud, Iwobi and Ramsey as impact subs shows the depth we have this season.
Welbeck will add to that and BFG is back in the new year which will provide great cover for our 2 CB’s who are logging alot of mins.
As long as Arsene can keep finding the right midfield pairing for our opponents until Santi comes back, we are in great shape!

AusGunner

I’m sure you could expedite writing these by typing “2 l8 2 r8” for the late subs 😉

goonerestgooner

But then Blogs would be breaking the no text speak rule

Henry

Walcot was off but give it to the Ox and mtm Alexis. Kolsc was superb as well. But when can our keeper start saving us the way the likes of Coutois and De gea does for their clubs. Except PSG away match

Rob

Alexis was amazing. Nearly the perfect game for him. I’ve never rated a player 10/10 on Arseblog until today. Ox, where has that shot been? The curl, the inside cut instead of an outside cut with a poor cross. Perhaps he just needs to play more on the left as an inside forward and less as a right winger. Xhaka was really special. He’s hearing all the Cazorla out and how Arsenal will fail without those deep cutting passes and puts on a great performance, emulating his best Cazorla. Xhaka could be our replacement for Cazorla long term, especially if… Read more »

The Gooner7

Did anyone notice Alexis advising Gabriel to go little front,so that he can pass the ball to him.
A teacher and a master!
#Alexis.

Rob

My problem with Ramsey… He came on for Theo, the right winger, and not even one minute later he’s on the left side of the field in the Ox’s space. Does he know that box to box midfielder and right winger are two different roles? Its not like Wenger told him to tell Xhaka or Coq to have a crack at right winger, lol… It’s like watching an under 8 game of bunch ball. I know Arsenal football is fluid and positions can interchange, but I also know that the right back had taken several knocks and is not our… Read more »

eduardo

did you actually watch the match, ox had been switched to right wing long before theo was taken off, walcott was wide left for second half, and ramsey went wide left when he came on for theo, but its Ramsey so fault has to be found, the agenda is real.

footythings

First of all great result yesterday and on my birthday too, but with Alexis doing what he did it made me wonder: Will Ox and Theo ever have the football intelligence of an Alexis, an Ozil, or a Santi? What I mean is when Alexis and Ozil are having a below par game the things they try may not come off but they are still trying things that make sense whereas Theo and Ox even in their good games tend to have quite a few moments when they shoot when they should be passing or pass when they should be… Read more »

footythings

Sorry for my grammar and spelling. English isn’t my first language

Jacko Brown

There is nothing I can add to the Sanchez catalog of praises but I certainly can single out Gabriel. His two games at wing back have been a revelation and it goes to show how good a coach the club has. If he can stay healthy I think things are really looking interesting for the rest of the season

gunnerfan ov palace

I was impressed with arsenal fc game tactics v hammers yesterday for one nacho played some key roles from wing to striker position mustafi tucking in and tracking back on some crucial wham attacking. Mainly theo was not at his best but nearly scored, the best bit was the assists and goals from alexis, ox and ozil well played team and coq

Andy

The final score hides the fact that we again failed to make early domination count. In the first 20 minutes we had 5 or 6 chances down the left but failed to work the keeper. We have to start putting teams down earlier.

Second half however a different story.

That clearance by Kos running back towards his own goal was excellent.

Dan D

I was getting concerned because we were so much on top but our final ball wasn’t good enough and we weren’t making the most of our chances.

But last 15 mins we provided the ruthlessness that I was crying out for and it was a good night’s work.

Thoroughly dominant, the result was a true reflection of the game but West Ham were dreadful.

Well done boys.

Colfromdeal

Kos is God.

PeterB

Wonderful performance from Sanchez. I agree with the ratings today, I wish we could give more though. Incredible

Lloyd Townsend

Ox’s surging runs with the ball were majestic today, really showed what he was capable of and nice that he got a great goal and an assist to show for it. His final ball was a tad sloppy in the first half but after Sanchez he was our most dangerous player throughout the game.
