Alexis to Ox: Do you want a cup of tea before shooting?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has given further insight into how driven Alexis Sanchez is with a dressing room story after the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago.

Late in the game the Chilean set up the England international in front of goal, but he saw his goalbound effort saved by Wayne Hennessey.

After the win the players were in good spirits in the dressing room, but Sanchez wasn’t pleased he didn’t get the assist to his name – you can see his reaction to what was much more a good save rather than a bad miss right here.

However, such is his desire to make an impact, he had to have a word in the showers with the Ox.

“The number of times we’ve come off the pitch and we’ve won, but he’s still not happy,” said the 23 year old.

“The Crystal Palace game for example. We won 2-0 and right at the end he passed it to me. I shot and Wayne Hennessey saved it.

“The boys were all happy in the dressing room but Alexis came up to me in the shower and said, ‘My friend, are you going to score? Oh my friend … I passed you the ball, you have a cup of tea, you wait … and then you shoot’.

“I was just laughing like, ‘Yeah, sorry my friend’, but he always wants assists, he wants goals, and that’s what makes him the player he is.

“He’s always hungry, and he passes that onto us all. We’ve got a lot of those characters in the team.”

Alexis is the soup nazi of football

Ebo

Alexis is like the Jesus of football, except he don’t do forgiveness.

Where are these quotes from?

Trez

Alexis will leave if we don’t win anything this season. He’s too much of a winner to be satisfied with just ucl qualifications and an FA CUP.

Alex

I don’t call this atitude to be a winner attitude, but rather the one of a lil brat.

clins

maybe from different perspective it looks like a brat. but if tony adams would’ve said the same thing everyone would be applauding him. truth is we need players like him who pushes himself and others. mustafi sanchez xhaka gabriel are all proper captain material and im glad that we have them.

janine

whats wrong with wanting to be a winner, or wanting the best for urself or others

Edus Braces

I’m no expert but I would always want the player to take a touch in that situation. Bit rich from Alexis too, the man likes a touch.

Much respect for the hunger and desire though.

Alex

Yeah… fortunately Ox was in a good mood, because personally i wouldn’t have liked it at all… counting the number of times Sanchez fails without having a good GK doing a save.

Ebo

Ox: Coffee please mate. And can you pass the sugar along with the ball?

Terrible miss by the Ox tut tut

NewSeason

If the OX can take the “bantz” in good spirit, there’s no reason why we cannot. Alexis’ desire speaks volumes about his zeal to make an impact on the score during his time on the pitch and whatever you all may feel about him, you cannot fault his attitude. This guy will give it his all 100% of the time on the pitch and it only seems fair that he should expect others to try to give more. The only downside is that when things don’t go badly, he shows his emotions which can have a negative impact on the… Read more »

Ox should have hit it first time imo.

Hurensohn

Has he got him confused with Theo..?

Paul

It’s match day Blogs, serious tension in the air rather than the water. 🙂

Cris

To give a little context, “drink a cup of coffee, a cup of tea” is a common expression on chilean football when a player has all time in the world to shoot before the defense pressures him, the pundit would say something like “he had enough time to drink a cup of tea, read the paper, take out the dog to the park”, etc. So it is obviously banter from Alexis.

Bould's Eyeliner

It’s obvious enough to translate to sarcasm in any language…your knowledge is definitely appreciated, but lack of it shouldn’t warrant this kind of hilarious uproar hahaha

The Real Donald

People say Alexis is great. I don’t know, maybe not so great. I’ll make him great again.

TR7 > CR7

What the f*** do you mean we take things too seriously? HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT!!!

Lord Bendnter

Frankly, this is the mentality of players who’ve played for Barcelona. Success is not an option, it’s a must.
Listen to what Henry had to say regarding training when he signed for the Camp Nou

GHunner

Either he feels like Scar in Lion King https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SDGyPRr9-AE or he just desperately wants the team to give him a good reason to renew.

Alex

Well I don’t like it. And I don’t have to

mo974

So funny. I have watched games with south americans buddies ( colombians and argentines) they diss players with that kind of jokes ( insert maté instead of tea)!. But Ox should have burried it tho! Hope he takes his chances today.COYG.

The Real Donald

My concern based on the last two home games is Alexis has decided he’s only passing to Ozil.

Paul

Wenger must give the captaincy to Alex sanchez and fat cheque to keep him in Arsenal

Paul

Who are you??

Shank

You cud learn from those little shower room briefings Ox

BODMAS

Arseblog, with many people like Donald Trump…. no more fun in the world

Mpls

Hilarious, and good pressure.
But I must say that I for one am appreciating that Ox has been more on frame with his shooting lately, not as much snatching at it and sending it to row Ox.

Charvakan

Great story, and kudos to Ox for telling it on himself. Both these players have a fantastic attitude and must be a strong positive influence on the team. I hope Alexis stays, but indications aren’t good. He knows how good he is, and so does everyone else in football. He seems like the kind of person who’s always looking for more challenges. I believe him when he says he’s happy at Arsenal, but I think he’ll go somewhere else. He’s irreplaceable and it would make us weaker to lose him, but it’s not as though we don’t have other good… Read more »

It’s very common that the players of Chile national team speak thatthabetween way between them after games. Once, Sanchez receive the wrath of a team mate who considered he had a bad game, and Alexis told that history to journalists after winning the match.
