Giroud: I try to keep improving

Olivier Giroud says he’s desperate to win the Premier League with Arsenal, and that he’s always looking to improve himself as a player.

The French international has scored 10 goals this season, and his recent form has been invaluable to the Gunners in recent weeks.

Speaking at Soccer AM Facebook live event, he said, “When I first arrived at the club I’d won the league with Montpellier but I came in a discreet way, and I had to prove myself.

“I always try to improve myself, I’ve won trophies with this club and we want to carry on this adventure, hopefully winning more trophies and the Premier League.”

He also touched on the brilliant goal he scored against Crystal Palace and some of the ribbing he took from his teammates due to its similarity to the one scored by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“They were teasing me, saying that the Mkhitaryan one was better!” he said. “It’s crazy that two similar goals were scored in one week. I don’t know if I got inspired.

“He did very well as well, but I think mine is better! But to be serious it was funny in the dressing room, we were all surprised by what happened.”

Heavenly Chapecoense

To win the PL this year, keep on scoring goals. Super sub with 20 goals at the end of the season.

The Little Mozart

Giroud always tries his heart out. He deserves more than he gets.

Pedant

Keep him fresh and he can have a big season, switching him between Plan A or Plan B.

Arse City Blues

There was a young man named Ollie, who’s quite good at headers and volleys, his scorpion kick much better than Mik’s, to dismiss this man’s skills would be folly

Dawn

How wonderful that he would try to improve on perfection.

Cliff Bastin

While we still are slightly more fluent with Alexis up top, you can’t drop someone on his kind of form and when he is on the bench I reckon there is no better back up striker in the league

Mesut O'neill

Beat you to it Santori No doubt top end players want us to be able to do things and win things We need to close the partnership on Chelsea first never mind even thinking of winning anything. Spurs have to play a wounded City next. The following week Liverpool have to play Chelsea so something will give. We need to concentrate on beating Burnley (Barton) and Watford first. Then we get a shot at Chelsea. Should we come away with the win, we will still need to follow that up with one against the Saints the week after. It would… Read more »

Old news;)

GoonerSG

He is an awesome squad player, not necessarily our first-choice centre-forward.

Also, I think he is more concerned about looking good (footballistically and aesthetically) than actually winning, which is not the mentality of champions.

Goontang

He cant help the fact thats hes a gorgeous bastard? Doesnt mean hes concerned with looking good on the pitch.

The guy still works his ass off.

YoungArse

I’ve seen some pretty stupid comments on here, but this is up there.

Arsene Ginger

You must be one ugly and blind son of a Sp&ds fan.

Alphie

If you take an objective pause and analyze his goals then one realizes that his finishing technique is quite amazing for a striker and more so for his size.

It’s because we’ve been spoilt with strikers like Henry, DB10 and the skunk that the bar is set so high we forget that some of the goals he’s scored for this club have been quite unique. In particular an outfoot near post finish that I reckon he’s scored four times that is just brilliant.

DB10**

I think he quite enjoys not having the burden of scoring the team’s goals on his shoulders alone.

whatever he is doing right now training, diet , rest he needs to keep it up till the end of the season. In the past we have run him into the ground due to a weak bench.

Ravi

He always comes back strong and his mental strength is something the Boss always acknowledges! Keep banging them in HFB!!

Anthony

Really pleased he has signed a new deal. Our ability to rotate from the front is something we’ve not had a great deal of depth in before. With Sanchez up top, we need a lot of mobility on the flanks, which allows us to get he best out of Walcott and Chamberlain. With Giroud up top, we have more of an anchor, so our play can be built up differently – also aerially we are better, though Theo and Sanchez have both contributed with headed goals. On a technical level, I can’t really fault any of the forwards; Sanchez, Iwobi,… Read more »

“When I first arrived at the club I’d won the league with Montpellier but I came in a discreet way…”

Don’t worry Olivier, you were probably just tired.

Ozilosis

A fantastic player with a fantastic attitude.
The amount of battling he does on the pitch is ridiculous. Must be a struggle to keep a calm head but does it most times…
He had a good long shot and curl from distance on him as well when he reached Arsenal but has used it so sparingly.
Wish there was a way small guy big guy front two could work of us with sanchez coz they both are just so committed.

heihaci

great response by Girioud in dealing with the competition from Sanchez

Santori

He has been criticised for his lack of pace but even that he has been trying to improve. He is more mobile now than before. Done a bit of fitness work but also more efficient with picking his runs. Also his off ball pressing has improved. A number of times this season he has come deep to win the ball back for us I don’t necessarily agree that Alexis up top makes us more unpredictable and we have started slow be we are playing with Girouds up top There have been a number of games with Alexis starting up top… Read more »
