Arsene Wenger says that Alexis Sanchez’s character is such that he’s always up for the fight, even when the fight has already been won.
This was evident at the weekend when, at 4-0 up, Arsene Wenger decided to take off arguably our most important player so as not to risk him picking up an injury, and to give him just a little bit of a rest.
The logic was obvious, it was entirely the right decision, but Sanchez could not, or would not, hide his disappointment.
The Arsenal manager played down the reaction after the game, saying the Chilean was a good guy, but also suggested he needs look at the bigger picture.
“Individually, you want everybody to behave well, but we don’t live in a perfect world,” he said
“He’s a guy who wants to fight everywhere, sometimes where he shouldn’t.”
Ultimately it’s just part of his character. The desire to do well and be involved means he hates it when he’s not, and you can’t really have one without the other.
Sanchez declared himself happy with the win and for the team on his Instagram afterwards, and that should really be that.
Wanted to fill his boots, and who can blame him! Was absolutely the right decision to take him off though, we need him fit
I just love that guy
This whole Alexis sadness episode is getting rather boring now. We should be asking why we start matches in such lethargic manner. We lack the required intensity to give a big performance when the big matches arrive save for Chelsea earlier on. I say we concentrate more on that
I love sanchéz, even when he was at barcelona, loved his fighting spirit. It’s a bit sad to see that same warrior mentality turn into a selfish hunt of stats at the expense of the team’s priorities. Hope I’m reading too much into this and he really means well.
Sanchez will be gone in the summer, let’s enjoy him while we can. Just hope he doesn’t get thrown under a bus by fans like some other players who have left for more ambitious clubs with better managers.
Sanchez should also get a bit more clever: rest is also good for him like for anybody. When he’ll be injured for months, he’ll be more furious to not have preserved his body earlier. This is a way also to think of his partners who need him!

Comment:Sanchez is our best player though Wenger knows what’s good for him.Kudos for the win anyway
Stop publishing stories about it and that really will be that.
“That should really be that” – you know it won’t be, not with every pundit and journo out there feeding on it with a frenzy.
On the channel I watched at the weekend they had Peter Schmeichel in studio. He made the exact same point you’re making here.
Was pretty impressed with his general punditry as well.
Case close!!!

Definitely the right decision to take him off. Imagine if both he and Giroud had taken knocks, we’d have been without our best strikers.
My worry is that it’s easy to say he loves football, he wants to play, he’s South American etc. My worry is that he didn’t seem to behave quite like this before the contract situation. Maybe he did and the media just didn’t focus on it so much, but the timing of it all is quite worrying.
I think you’re missing the point somewhat. When we signed Alexis, we had to convince him to choose us over Liverpool. Obviously the case was made that we’re a London based club, with a higher chance of winning trophies and of being successful (better squad). He’s now been here 2 full seasons and is into his third. Whilst we have made progress in where we have finished in the league, we have not won a title. My opinion is that the contract isn’t an issue for him, or his commitment to a game. Simply that he has spent 2 years… Read more »
if he can make us won a title, he can sulking whenever he wants.
Sanchez should understand that Wenger was helping him,he is the best player in arsenal now but should be more professional
Its good that he is fighter and i think he don’t wants to leave, but he want the board to bring someone who can fight along side him to victory.
In Ozil and Alexis, we have 2 genuinely world class players. Need them both to resign! AW and Cech smart to downplay recent contract-related pouting by Alexis IMO. Calling him out on it would only escalate the situation and reduce chances of him resigning.
People should see Sanchez’s behavior as it is–INDISCIPLINE. Arsene Wenger as the manager is responsible for squad ,team and match management,so he decides who starts a match and subsequent changes. The match has been won ,so if he is replaced to rest or avoid injury and give another team member a chance to play for 11minutes, what is wrong with that?.We saw Lucas Perez and Giroud benched for weeks after scoring crucial goals in matches where they came in as substitutes. They were calm and did not raise any dust.Sanchez should respect his manager and other team members . This is… Read more »
