Former Rangers boss linked with Academy role

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has been linked with the role as Arsenal’s Academy Manager.

The job is vacant in the wake of Andries Jonker’s departure take over as manager of Wolfsburg, and it’s been suggested that the 54 year old is in contention to succeed the Dutchman.

He has had a good relationship with Arsenal in the past, taking Gedion Zelalem on loan last season, and his style of football was considered part of the reason why the Gunners allowed the highly-rated midfielder to go there.

However, given how quickly Jonker’s departure came about, it seems unlikely that there’ll be too much haste in finding the replacement.

Arsenal have also been linked with Barcelona coach Pep Segura, and there are bound to be other names thrown into the mix over the next little while.

It may well be that this is an appointment made independently of Arsene Wenger, who said after Jonker was brought in that he had nothing to do with it after Terry Burton voiced his displeasure at the arrival of the new man.

As we reported yesterday, Arsenal are not anticipating any further departures beyond that of Jonker and Freddie Ljungberg who left his role as coach of the U15s.

I am a RANGERS fan and do not let warburton any where near your club,he brought in absolutely the wrong player and could not be a hazard to your up and coming players, the man is toxic-crooked.

Give it to Wenger

Hope we poach someone from Southampton, like Matt Hale maybe. Southampton probably has the best academy and youth development system in the land.

i would like arsenal to poach southampton’s direcor les reed . he has done such a remarkable job at that club. to think that this club was playing in second tier a few years back and is now fighting for titles in premier league is truly remarkable. that too despite the succession of their best players and coaches leaving the club year after year. we sure would benefit from someone like that at arsenal who could analyze the work that managers do and plan for the future

Matt hale, you say? Seems like it’s meant to happen, given the name of our academy.
