A hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Watford last night. Here are the on the whistle thoughts of Gunnerblog who sadly doesn’t have an awesome dog with him this time.

Wenger out enough is enough
Where was Steve Bould geeing up the players?
This aint the first time Arsenal have been beaten by a lowly team.
Hull,Wigan and who evr forget the 4 goal lead blown away .
This shows Wenger ‘s philosophy aint working and he shd go asap
or fired before he caused further damage.
I know top teas have been beaten by lowly teams in the epl .
The problem is Wenger has a habit of losing to such teams
when the points are there for the taking.
Blaming Wenger for that is unfair. He said the right things in press can’t imagine not saying he right things in the dressing room. The players are to blame, they talk about fast starts but fail every time…What is that about?
We still have one of the best squads in the league and 9 points is not insurmountable. COYG
Absolute rubbish. Yes, the players have a share of the responsibility but they will only give you what you demand of them. If a manager does not demand 100% application every game, the players will not give 100% application. It is human nature. If my boss tells me that here are the day’s targets, I will not try to double those targets, because I can’t be arsed and winning employee of the year doesn’t make much difference to my life… I am earning enough money to live a comfortable life. I know we all hate the cunt little boy who… Read more »
They don’t have two days off. That’s nonsense.
Cue the massive overreaction – wenger out? Really? Bould out? Alexis put? Everyone out?
And as for lowly clubs?
Disrespectful to say the least, yeah we were crap, but show me a team that doesn’t lose occasionally? There’s only been one, managed of course by the useless and inept wenger.
I don’t see how Wenger is to blame for this. Unfortunately, we have a set of players who believe they are stars but forget that in order to be seen as such you need to play like them. Too lazy, too complacent, (it’s not about motivation, winning the league and closing the gap is your motivation) it’s purely about professionalism. You have a duty as a professional footballer to pay attention for a minimum of 90minutes and execute the instructions of your manager all be it to the best of your ability and we all know this squad is full… Read more »

Correct. That’s the league done. (Winning vs the Chavs won’t change that).
Correct. Giroud is currently best coming off the bench. (Except in some rare cases).
Correct. Too many attacking cooks at the end. (I’d have brought on Bellerin).
Correct. We’ve never fully adjusted to losing Santi. (We simply cannot afford to go into next season relying on Cazorla in any way).
I disagree with this statement because I think our wings should be acting as the strikers when we need to counter instead of coming back. Giroud must retrieve/come back / hold off players and bring the rest of the side foward while the others sprint forward. We tried for 50 minutes to score with giroud off the pitch and only scored 1 goal. It was not our attack that let us down it was the midfield, it put both our defense and attacj under pressure, additionaly Gabriel was given too much ball and didnt have the skills to do anything… Read more »
Bang on assessment of the match and the overall situation.
Seems clear to me that one of the team’s main psychological flaws reared it’s head yesterday; complacency. It looked simply like they started the game thinking they could just turn up and win and were already thinking of the Chelsea game. Ah, the Chelsea game, where we will probably see another of the team’s psychological flaws appear; bottling it in a make or break game away to one of the big teams. I don’t blame the manager for this, there’s only so much he can do and for me he has consistently been let down by his players. However, although… Read more »
This is the situation Xhaka has put the club under for his stupidity, an unsettled midfield. One could not expect our team to have done so poorly but our midfield was bang average. Taking Giroud off I dont think was a good idea, we needed him towards the end for balls in the box, they were just sitting back. Secondly, Alexis runs all the way to the half way line to get the ball when he should be running the opposite direction trying to get behind defenders. We tactically played stupid, the problem with giving the players all the freedom… Read more »
If we lose against Chelsea we’re out title race and I think Wenger will go!
As far I’m concerned, the are two issues at play here. 1. It’s trivial to pressure Arsenal into mistakes at the back with relentless high pressing. Without Cazorla, the defenders are really struggling to find an easy out ball. They pass it about, put each other under pressure and eventually lose it in dangerous positions. 2. Ramsay and Coquelin don’t do enough to help bridge the defence and attack. As we rely on a passing game to bring the ball forward, we need passing midfielders to take up good positions and look to transition the ball from defence. Ramsey and… Read more »
I agree completely. But I also think it was a bit slippery, I think the less we played with the ball the less risk we would have taken in these conditions. We played the wrong style frankly.
The Ox unfortunately lacks consistency, fumbled the ball a few times. How do we not have a clause for Jack ? that to me is just throwing money down the toilet, we payed so much money while he has been on the sidelines and finally he is getting a run but not in an Arsenal shirt… bit a joke really.
It’s not Wenger out from me. But even he must see the repetition now. Whether a different manager picks different players for this game or just motivates a good side to play better is unknown but what we do know is that this keep happening. Maitland-Niles could have played in there with Coquelin. Ram-Coq has never worked. And agree with James, I haven’t checked but I wonder how many games we’ve been chasing a late goal when Giroud has started. He’ll have to play Lucas on Saturday… and must play Alexis thru the middle. But he should be bedding in… Read more »
2 days later and this still stings. I don’t know that this can be written off to a bad half. The truth is that these types of performances have been too frequent the past several seasons. Arsenal have a deep squad of many good to very good players, but I think the only undeniably world class players who are finished products and in their prime are Kos, Ozil and Alexis (that 2 of those may be leaving is deeply troubling). So it begs the question of whether the team has enough quality to generate the consistency in performance needed to… Read more »
