It’s being reported this evening that Mesut Ozil will miss tomorrow night’s Premier League clash with Liverpool due to illness.
The German was sent home from training on Wednesday, after he felt ‘under the weather’, but it was expected that he would return in time to make the trip to Anfield.
However, various sources, including the Evening Standard, are saying that he hasn’t recovered in time and won’t be in the squad for what is a crucial game for the Gunners.
Arsenal have taken 9 points from the last 15, but have lost two of the three last three – at home to Watford and then away at Chelsea, a result which more or less ended the title challenge for this season.
Arsene Wenger does have Aaron Ramsey available again, and he could slot into the team as part of a midfield three, while Alex Iwobi has also been deployed in Ozil’s position at various points this season.
It’s the second time this season that the German has been laid low by illness, missing a spell at the turn of the year.
Someone get him a tonic and some vitamins.
The only illness he has is a lack of balls!!
I second that my good man
This is what happens when you have a s*** midfield! You lack balls!

Your illness is maybe not recognizing great skills. Here are Kroos, Lahm, Gattuso, Fernandinho, Mascherano and others (with great balls?) made look like sunday cup players by the magician. Lions dont loose sleep over the opinions of sheep
Big loss but also means we can go with the following:
Cech, Monreal, Koscielney, Mustafi, Bellerin, Xhaka, Ramsey, Ox, Iwobi, Sanchez, Welbeck
COYG
Lucas in-Ramsey out!
I’d rather we go with Cech, Monreal, Kolscieny, Mutaphi, Hector, Xakha, OX, Sanchez, Iwobi, Perez, and Welbeck
I’d rather we go with Cech, Monreal, Koscielney, Mutaphi, Hector, Xhaka, OX, Sanchez, Iwobi, Perez, and Welbeck
Iwobi on the wing leaving Monreal with no support against Mane?
No thank you.
I’d rather have Alexis, Lucas, Welbeck or Ox on the left.
I seem to be getting moderated quite a bit.
Ozil is obviously a fantastic player, but I’m glad he’s not playing for the sake of it if he’s not fully fit. It wouldn’t do him or the team any good if he played badly for 60 mins before being subbed off. Get well soon Mesut!
He’s not a ‘fantastic player’. He is a player with fantastic technical ability which does not convert to consistently good on-field performances.
Exactly! That’s why he has never been able to challenge for the league whilst playing for us.
He’s just a better version of Arshavin – talented but neglects the defensive part of his game (see Everton winning goal against us).
I have a feeling there’s something a bit more to this…he’s looked off-colour for a while now. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.
It is unfortunate, as I think Liverpool (no real defensive midfielder of which to speak) would have been the ideal opponent to get Ozil back to his best, sweeping through that tender middle. If Ramsey gets the nod in a midfield three, I hope he can put his boots into it and get back to his best. Sanchez should have a good game ducking under and past Klavan and Matip, and I really hope Welbeck is there from the start – he could be killer. COYG!
Well most of the fans are calling for him to be dropped, especially in a big game as they are saying he always goes missing witch is false as he really has a goid record assisti g and scoring goals against the top 5. He is missing when whole team plays sbit including him it is like a deases when we play shit all players play shit. Hope tomorrow we will come back commenting thar we played great and wond the game and not readind comments for thos fans who are slating him that we miss ozil an blah blah.… Read more »
Oh no, he really loves the big games too. Always seems to be well up for it…
Ah well, AT least it makes deciding who to drop for Sanogo easy after his wondergoal today
Surely Perez gets a start now?
Bullshit. He doesn’t want to play, he wants a nice warm hot shower instead. Spineless.
We’re the perfect team for Liverpool to play
Fired up and raring to go. Our slow start as usual. Atmosphere roaring. We will wilt yet again
Then a midfield 3 of Xhaka – Ox – Ramsey would do. A front 3 of Lucas – Alexis – Welbeck would just about do it. We might need Giroud to start considering how weak they are on the break. Also confused as to if Iwobi should start or not…with Ozil out, he probably has the best final ball in the team. But one of Lucas/Welbeck have definitely got to start tomorrow.
3 points or go home.
Glad ozil is missing ..
Cheq
Bellerin..kos..mustafi..moneral
Xakai..Ramsey..ox
Perez..Sanchez..wellbeck
I love our Mesut, but he doesnt make it easy, does he?
He’ll fuck off and win the European Cup with his next club.
Tianjin Quanjin don’t compete in Europe.
Pretty sure no team in China can compete in European Cups. ?
I like iwobi when he came to the fore he was a breath of fresh air. I think his form has really dipped and he has trouble keeping the ball and don’t think a start would be best for us at anfield. I like that he chases back but going forward his ball retention and passing has been poor. No comment in ozil Cept get better soon.
What happened to the Coq so many of you were so fund of? Hay…. The fun never stops with this ?
He’s sick of the selfish arrogant Sanchez and the idiots who feed his ego
Sanchez puts more effort in 10 mins than Ozil does in 90 mins.
illness……..hmmmmm
yeah, because a professional footballer would rather fake being ill than start for his team in a crucial game.
Thank goodness he’s ill. Always in ghost mode, always.
Iwobi. Also Lucas and Welbeck.
COYG!
Show a bit of gumption FFS!
Fever pitch
Big loss?? The guy hardly does anything, a new Ramsey
We have a better chance without him. Seriously.
Lucas, please.
People do realise, outside of the one eyed Arsenal fanbase, that Ozil is considered pretty much the most overrated player in the Premier league?
my starting team
Cech, Monreal, Koscielney, Mustafi, Bellerin, Xhaka,Ox, Iwobi,Perez Sanchez, Welbeck
team full of pace and power but Wengers love child Ramsey will probably get the shout over Perez which infuriates the fans what has he got to do to start
Overrated by the fans who lack knowledge and understanding of his role and input, not to mention the vision that the professionals appreciate which unfortunately certain fans do not see.
From what I read and watch most ex professional players think Ozil flatters to deceive. That he has talent but fails to perform consistently and fails in particular to turn up against the big teams
Bet u we will do better without him. Us by one goal
Özil not playing…Im not watching this game. The kickoff is 1.30am where I am, so…
