*Big chances are shots from close distance and one-v-one’s (or open goal shots) with the keeper. For example, Aguero’s goal today was a Big Chance as were both Arsenal goals since they were shots taken from such close range.
**Expected goals are simply a measure of where a shot was taken and then using averages from years of data assigning a number to the shot. For shots outside the 18 yard box I assign a 0.03, inside the 18 yard box 0.1, inside the 6 yard box 0.25, and for Big Chances a 0.4. Big chances are only counted once (a big chance in the 6 yard box is 0.4 not 0.65). This formula is very accurate.
Decent looking stats at the start until you factor in two non league sides. Then they don’t look so great.
looks like you didnt read the whole thing. Arsenal’s numbers are actually inflated by the Soton game, and not the non-league sides.
Soton was basically a reserve team (as was ours) , so 2 non-league, 1 Championship, and 1 reserve team BUT I don’t care, you can only beat who you face and Citeh were at full strength (well, until Gabriel took Silva out!). We’ll need to be even better against Chelski though.

The formation looks like it could be a winner defensively (especially if we keep getting those kinds of performances from Gabriel!) but there are still question marks going forward. With the wing backs there’s an emphasis on width which should suit Giroud to the ground but he’s been disappointing for the last couple of games when really he should be thriving. The point of 3-5-2 is that we shouldn’t get overrun in midfield because the two DMs can focus more centrally and the WBs take care of the wider attacks.I I think Giroud did well in being our sole exit point to Citeh attacks when they pressured first half. Good move though to get Welbz on when Kompany was running out of steam. Disappointing that when Aguero scored we had none of our 3 at the back actually back! But we weren’t playing 3-5-2, we played 3-4-3. You’re right that the wing backs carry most of the wide threat which means the emphasis on attack is even more focused on the CF than the more fluid attacking 3 in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Giroud’s success as an attacking threat is pivotal and he hasn’t done enough damage yet, though I think it will come.
