Arsene Wenger says consistency will be the key to achieving a top four finish as Arsenal climbed above Manchester United and closed the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool with a 3-0 victory against West Ham United.
Second half goals from Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud capped an eye-catching performance by the Gunners as they recorded a Premier League win for the first time since 11 February.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, the boss touched on how confidence is returning to his squad after their appalling run of form.
“West Ham defended well in the first half and we needed to find a solution in the second half. We were convincing after the break.
“Ozil and Sanchez are important players but everyone did well. You could not say any player had a bad performance.
“We come out of a difficult period and our confidence goes quickly and comes back slowly.
“We are in the final sprint in the Premier League. Consistency will be very important.
“We have a little handicap on the points front. We have less possibilities to drop points.”
Arsenal are currently six points behind third place Liverpool and have two games in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Of course, we still have some very tough games ahead including the final North London derby at Sh*te Hart Lane, Manchester United at the Emirates, a home clash with resurgent reigning champions Leicester and perennially difficult away days at Stoke and Southampton.
lol: Shite Hart Lane.
I always like to call it Shite Fart Shame
Shite Fart Stain
Days like today where the fans chanted ‘One Arsene Wenger’ shows the negativity around the club can be changed by good performances. Even if Arsene stays, our job is to support this great club though thick and thin, not cry on youtube channels and make a few bucks out of our misery !
Up the Arsenal ! With Liverpool struggling again and Man City not that far off, can make top 4!
Also shows the Arsenal FANTV crowd are not exactly the majority either. FANTV could do itself a favour and have more balance cross section of the fan base. Its now guilty of featuring the same old bores. I think most sensible fans think Wenger has hit the glass ceiling and that he should (will) go sooner than later but that it is not classy or imperative to be pulling out banners accusing him of ruining the club and telling him to get out. And frankly it is a bit of a hissy fit to then lash out at the Board,… Read more »
Only disagree with ‘Wenger has hit the glass ceiling’ comment. Apart from that I agree with your very well thought out comments.
I couldn’t have said it better.. ??? because one thumbs up won’t do..
Well said Santori.
Ok so, we need other teams not to preform so we can kind of be successful, good performance from us but who did we beat in 2017?
Isn’t it relative? One good so the other bad? I recall rare games where both sides performed well and it ended in a 3-0 result for one.
As to who we beat in 2017, this win doesn’t change that but the point was if we perform like this, the shroud of negativity can be lessened. While no-one has forgotten the larger picture, it’s good to be happy about something related to Arsenal again
P E R FORM!
Why is it that when the Chavs or $iteh make the opposition look poor it’s because they played well. But with some of our fans, when we play well and make the opposition look poor then it’s purely because the opposition was poor…. Odd.
Precisely. Wat does it make of us if we as fans cant support the manager n the players when they r down?
How would we feel if we go thru a bad patch at work ourselves n our clients start chanting #out on us?
#robbieout
I’d understand if I earned a £9m salary and didnt achieve nothing special for many years. I actually would expect to be sacked let alone nagged at.
To be fair since his last contract renewal he has won two FA cups and came 2nd in the league with the charity shield (technicall still a trophy).
Whats so special about top four if we are getting trashed by big teams (that are actually big in ambitions) in UCL anyway? We are so happy to get into a competition we never won. A competition we are used to concede 5s from Bayerns and Barcas better not exist in our schedule. Not until after we are a different team. Ready to “compete” in the competition.
Because when video technology comes in, no bent officials or cheating players are going to do is out of WINNING Trophies!
Because it brings in £70m+ a season in revenue which the club needs to operate, helps us attract players of a higher quality who want to pit themselves against higher quality opposition, helps improve the quality of existing players by playing against said opposition, gives fans an opportunity for them to see us play against the top teams in the world, puts the club in a better position for commercial deal, the list goes on… Given the way the club is structured, we won’t be ready to compete if we’re not in the competition. Ask a club like Newcastle, would… Read more »
If your team doesn’t want to play in the CL then your team has no ambition…
Hurray! Counting on other teams to be worse than us to achieve that minimum target yet again. Such a flaccid comment and to slag others for expressing their views and twisting it into some money-spinning motive. At least they are consistent regardless the outcome. This club is in dire need of change. At least keep that in perspective.
He shd add defensive resilience as well. Beatin WHU aint a big deal .
Tougher tests await. Winning them will pacify the fans.
Can’t agree more.
Good to have a clean sheet against the Hammers but we have to keep improving now.
That said, considering we were without Koscielny, Gabriel and Mustafi did well. AND Martinez. Lots of positives and we should take them.
Every incremental improvement will help us regain composure and belief.
First 3 points in 30 potential points till end of season garnered. We can finish as high as 81 pts if we should be able to win all remaining matches which should be the goal. Plus there’s the FA cup to win. Again we have a chance to make the record books here. Plenty at stake still. AND a slim possibility we may yet catch Spurts. Unlikely to say the least but all it takes for them is to slip up (like us) say 3 matches (One of which could be our decider against them) and we have another St… Read more »
That picture depicts a man totally in control…..cough, cough
This win shouldn t makes us forget about yet another meltdown this season; we are a big club and have to do better. Wenger Out.
Couple of more wins and he’ll announce his decision to stay. I do think we can make it to top 4 by the way.
“hey kiddo wanna hear a nasty secret? I’ve already extended my contract”
The photo actually reads: “I’ve got a statement from all the clubs in the top flight demanding Video Referees next season. I’m going to stick around and grin like this while I watch all you shitbags lose your under the table bonuses.”
This result doesn’t change anything. Neither would finishing in the top 4. We can’t compete over a full season and consistently lose to better teams.
That Fourth official looks like Wilshere
