Danny Welbeck says his body seems to be coping well with the rigours of regular first team football following a successful return from surgery on his right knee.
The England international went under the knife this time last year and spent nine months on the sidelines before a comeback cameo against Preston North End in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in January.
The 26-year-old has gone on to score four goals in 19 appearances this term and is in contention to start the FA Cup final.
“It has been difficult obviously coming back from injury and getting into the team and out of it,” said Welbeck ahead of Saturday’s Wembley showdown with Chelsea.
“I have just got to make sure I’m integrated well into the team, not just a certain amount of games one after the other.
“My body has got to get used to the training load and playing in the matches so you do get your niggles here and there, it’s something you have got to cope with. But I feel like I’m coping pretty well and have had no major reaction with my knee.
“I’ve not [played three games in a week],” Welbeck added. “But I’m looking forward to building on the stage I’m at at the moment and obviously in the future I hope I will be playing three games in a week.”
Welbeck missed Arsenal’s last FA Cup triumph – the 4-0 win over Aston Villa – with a previous knee injury and has already spoken this week of his desire to make up for that disappointment.
Can he play centre half?
Granted he is getting back into fitness but he simply has to be sharper in front of goal Last 4 starts for us, he has missed 4 sitters..2 to 4 yard out open goal opportunities. One advantage we have with Welbeck is that he can pull left and allow Alexis to take a more central role. But With the 3-4-3 the two secondary attackers are closer to the middle anyway and Giroud is less forgiving these days near the box + makes good runs into the 6 yard box. Its difficult because there is no plan B option between the… Read more »
Did you even read the comment?
Quick reply to jump to the top of the thread. Putz.
Hope he scores in the FA Cup final. This will boost his confidence. He still has lot to prove in terms of goal scoring.
Love his work rate on the pitch but yeah, his (lack of) finishing.
Missed the ball just before Bellerin scored v Everton. Did the same v. City in FA cup Semi and Alexis finished it. Decoy?
bendtner > welbeck
Bendtner is def a better finisher.
4 in 19, 2 of which were against a Southampton 2nd XI?!?
I knew he wasn’t prolific, but I didn’t realise his numbers were that bad. Why do I seem to like him playing for us if he’s that ineffective? I’m confused.
6 of those are apps are late sub appearances, almost all the others he only lasted 70 mins. Not saying that makes the record much better but he’s clearly being played back into full fitness.
I like Welbz a lot. He offers so much more then the goals he scores. He gives us so much attacking threat because he’s such a work horse. His pace and power are his bread and butter. He is really efficient at stretching teams as he loves moving out into the channels. So he is super capable at making things happen all on his own. Take the City game in the semi final as a prime example; he chased the ball down out wide then bulldozed his way through their fullback and fizzed a shot maybe an inch wide of… Read more »
Malarkey. He’s a striker. His job is to finish. He can’t finish. Sell him and get a striker who can score goals.
His job is to help the team win. Who the fuck cares who scores long as we get the results
If Arsenal are to truly challenge for the league once more then players like Welbeck need to drastically up their game…
Giroud, Walcott, and Welbeck all have their strengths, but realistically we need a centre forward with the strengths of all three put together. On their own their limitations are too extreme.
Theo “Le Face” Welbeck, that’s who we’re looking for
Romalu Lukaku is decent in the air, string, quick and knows where the goal is.
He’s also awful technically. No doubt he would look useless with our style of play (not saying he is useless, btw, just that you need to play to his strengths).
Welbeck is similar to Alvaro Morata in that he doesn’t score many goals but he scores in key moments of big matches. Not a bad quality to have!
I’m glad he’s healthy. Now we can sell him. This guy sucks. Seriously, is he any better than super nick ? I don’t think so. I’d rather we still had Arshavin playing as a lone striker. At least that was fun. shit, I had more confidence in Gervinho infront of an open goal. Sell sell sell.
Wow
Why so negative?
Put your trust on him, we are playin in a final, we have to keep the faith and cheer for the players we got now!
He must be given time..like Oliver..i think he i’ll be great..
Still think we should test PSG with 60m and try and get Draxler in the summer.
We need another secondary attacker regardless if one of Ozil or Alexis leaves and we can develop him onto an RVP type striker.
If I were the manager, our defense would be Mertesacker Holding Coq. But then again I’m quite immature.
it should be monreal mustafi(if fit) and holding
I think there’s a very good chance we’ll line up with four at the back on Saturday.
I missed your joke entirely!
Its funny because the defenders Holding the midfielders Coq
Mertz shouldn’t be Holding his Coq tho, he should let it out and harass costa with it.
I think 3 at the back its better ..because that formation mean we have 5 defenders…and 5 strikers…which is better than 4 at the back
Have we signed Trevor Diaby? If so, can he play? He’s not cup tied, and if he’s bajanxed, who would know?
i dont care if he dont score as long as he can get assists & does the old faint job for a Bellerin tap in
Do you mean black out in front of goal to distract defenders?
Even henry wasn’t clinical to start off.(im not comparing him to the king by the way)
Danny will feel wellbetter if he finds the the wellback of the net more.
Wordplay!
Lucas > Welbeck
He was at 26 though ???
Shame we’ve not seen Welbeck and Perez together more – they looked a mobile, threatening, potent and complimentary attacking combination on the one occasion they were given a chance.
