Deportivo targetting Lucas Perez return, but admit it’s not easy

Deportivo la Coruña are targetting Lucas Perez this summer, looking to bring a club favourite back to his home-town club, but know it’s not going to be easy.

Although the Spanish striker is very much on the fringes of the Arsenal team, he has a long contract, and the £17m fee the Gunners paid last August is not insignificant, and the club would want to recoup as much of that as possible if they do decide to sell.

Quoted in AS, the Deportivo president Tino Ferdandez said of the 28 year old, “For us it’s a priority that he comes back, although it’s not easy.

“He has a long contract and with several seasons to go in a great club. We are knocking on the door, talking to them and the commitment we have is that if he is allowed leave we would be the first choice.

“It’s still far away, but when we talk about reinforcing the attack having Lucas as [Florin] Andone’s partner would be fantastic.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Perez is involved in today’s FA Cup final, but given he hasn’t made an appearance for Arsenal since the 11th of March, his departure this summer would not be a surprise at all.

Keep him ,he’ll be better still next year.

dennis

Totally baffling situation. Yes he has had injuries but why did we even buy him if we think he is worse than Theo??

David C

he’s pretty steady on the ball too. I don’t think he could be the main striker in our current setup, but would probably rotate in well with Ozil/Sanchez just behind the striker.

very baffling indeed.

GunnAlex

Did they spend it all?

Can’t understand the Perez situation at all. When fit he scores goals. Usually Wenger gives players time to adapt – this guy hits the road running and is never given a chance. Now we ship him back? Makes no sense.

Mr. G

Agreed. This whole thing reminds me of the Park Chu-Young situation. The big difference is that Lucas has proved he’s a very good player when called upon, whilst Park was eventually proved to be a rubbish player who was more than likely purchased for promotion and shirt sales in Korea.

Ally

Keep him. We won’t be able to buy a better Sanchez replacement this summer. Given the opportunity I think he’ll shine.

Vinie2000

Disgusted with the way Lucas has been treated at Arsenal. The guy comes from scoring goals in La liga and whenever asked to play the guy delivered. Now, Mr Wenger is getting the cheap wonder from Belgium and our Spanish Matador is leaving us. This team under Wenger is going down hill. While Pep already started his next season recruitment with an excellent player) Silva) we’re always looking for deadline day last minute panic crap transfers (Assano, Kallstrom) to mention few. Bruno Silva cost 45 million Can you imagine Sane-Jesus-Debruyne- both Silvas behind in City Squad? Terrifying, isn’t? Griezman to… Read more »

theres just a vast difference between wenger and top managers right now. conte klopp and guardiola have a system even before they buy players and buys players according to the system . they know exatly what they want when they go into transfer market and only targets such players . none of the players they bought have been a bad buys and they do it efficiently. i dont know how wenger or arsenal buys players , but its clear that transfer market is one of our strong areas . wenger is always indecisive when buying players , so we ended… Read more »

I remember not long ago Wenger talking about the need to improve in scouting? So maybe he doesn’t really trust the network of scouts and that’s the reason for his delays in sanctioning deals? You don’t read in the papers or anywhere that Wenger has gone to a game twice or even once to scout a player, only maybe during the international competitions like Euros and the world cup.
So I think it’s a bigger problem than Wenger

AusGunner

however did we win today without our Spanish Matador?!

Mr. G

I agreed with you until you suggested we bring in Lacazette. Lacazette is not the answer and would add little to our squad.

AusGunner

‘our Spanish Matador’? leave it out

AusGunner

besides the vom-inducing rhetorical flourish, that’s obviously santi anyway

Heavenly Chapecoense

Lacazette and his club already have an agreement with Atletico.

Not only has he been badly treated, but £17m also represents an utter waste of money for the club. It’s very unlikely we’ll get much for him when he moves on. This just makes no sense either from the player’s point of view or ours. It’s entirely indicative of the utter fuck-up that is our transfer policy. That for me is still our biggest failing, above tactical and motivational issues. For such a big club we are embarringly disorganised, weak and callow in the transfer market. For all of Perez’s attributes, surely that money would have better placed on someone… Read more »

Utter waste of money indeed. We’ll be lucky to get 5m for him.
Don’t understand anyone saying we should keep him. Regardless of whether you think he should have played more or not, we need to just cut our losses & get someone in the manager will play.
Since the financial shackles have come off, Arsene has been really poor in the transfer market.

PBM

Can you name a top forward who has come to England in the last 3-4 years and shone ?
They are either not there or are only interested in playing in Spain or Italy.
And I don’t count someone looking to top up their retirement fund for a season…

you sound a lot like wenger . wenger always says this Sh*t , and frankly it pisses me off . maybe you just heard what wenger said in the press and beleived it without even looking at the facts. wenger has been saying for years that there are no good strikers available in the market and yet chelsea , united , liverpool, city and tottenham have all bought strikers in the last four years and some even have bought more than 2-3 strikers in those years . gabriel jesus , martial , costa , ibrahamovic , batshuayi , falcao ,… Read more »

Hope he starts today!

In my own little understanding of football, Perez was bought to weaken everton.. I’m sure he would have done better than mirallas.. May have even finished above Manure with Lucas.. There is always a bigger picture.. He won’t be sold this summer, may replace El nino maravilla in the 1st team if he leaves with his rolled up shorts.. Like it’s already a short, why convert it to briefs.. anyway, i want Arsene to stay until the board realize his ideal replacement is Pochettino.. If we can pull this coup, rivalry becomes hatred and i’ll feast on anything that makes… Read more »

Keeping in mind his age I would be surprised if he wanted to stay. I can’t imagine he wants to waste another season like this one.

Criminally underused by Wenger. But it stands otherwise as just another of his mistakes. Not that he – steeped in his own hubris and arrogance- would ever see it that way.

Just reminds me of Reyes. Solid player but England was just not the gig for him to dance

Wellarsed

Personally, I hope the club doesn’t sell. I’d far rather we kept him, gave him more game time and a real chance to show what he can do for us.

If we strengthen sufficiently, probably on loan to Deportivo. He’s a very decent player but we need even better players IMO. We still miss a bit of technicality and inventiveness. Players that can go : Jenkinson, Debuchy, Elneny, Gibbs. (All average) Walcott also should be sold as his pace (and best asset) will only wane from here on. We need in place a more creative player like say Konoplyanka. Per has been absolutely brilliant for us. Wenger brought him in to stablise the ship during a difficult rebuilding phase. He is head and shoulders above everyone in leadership. Will likely… Read more »
