Laurent Koscielny is out of the FA Cup final having been sent off during today’s Premier League game with Everton.
The Arsenal captain picked up a 14th minute red card for a reckless challenge on Enner Valencia. The French international slid in at high speed, got nowhere near the ball, and took a fair chunk of the man.
It means that he will be banned for next Saturday’s Wembley showdown with Chelsea, giving Arsene Wenger a real headache.
It was a silly challenge by an experienced player, and he’ll know he’s made a mess of it. The consequences for today’s game, and the cup final are yet to be fully known.

We still played incredibly well. Garbriel while he was around played like a boss. Then Per assumed the mantle.
We have good defensive depth this season. problem has not been defense but the idiosyncracies in midfield. Which is why 3 at the back works for this midfield. Neither Granit nor Ramsey are particularly good tacklers and we failed to protect the centre backs in 4-2-3-1 particularly when one of Mustafi or Koscielny were out (during that patch) Coquelin too had a poor relation in context to 4-2-3-1 and Granit where he found better joy with the missing Santi. It seems like when this group of players feel pressure they crumble. It’s not helped by another weak ref performance. Hope we use all our subs and save players for the cup it’s all that’s left now.
But this group of players did not crumble. I thought everyone played with passion and determination after the sending off.
Um, did you just watch the same game I did? We won 3-1 after playing with 10 men for 80 minutes. And could have easily scored 2-3 more with some better finishing.
That was an incredibly impressive performance, about as far from “crumbling” as you can get.

Oliver is an average official at best.
On the other game, Boro clearly deserved a penalty waved away because of sentiment.
Sadly, average officials in England get cup finals and world cup games (ie clattenburg), and corrupt officials are allowed to continue on in the FA (riley), or get high paying pundit jobs at bt (webb).
I think any referee would have given that as a red almost every time. I am a big Koscielny fan, but he made a mistake. He pretty clearly did not intend to injure Valencia, but he came in very late, with both feet off the ground, and got none of the ball. If an opposing player did that, I would be furious if it did not result in a sending off.

He’s definitely world class, but like everyone else at Arsenal, he’s also definitely not perfect.

That’s our captain on the pitch, never mind, all captains from all teams sometimes do stupid thing like that, the problem is Kos do it often and somehow in the important match.
It’s a common problem we seem to have with our defenders and def midfielders especially Kos, Xhaka and Mustafi. Totally sums up our season.

granit was only sent off twice. media made a mountain out of a mole hill. Viera was sent off many times. Since then, Xhaka has been indispensable with his passing range in midfield.
Mustafi has settled straight into the squad when you consider the calamitous start to Koscielny’s career in his first season.
It’s surprising nobody seems to have picked up about this Oliver dude’s total ineptitude as a ref. It’s not the first time it has happened, he is card-happy and always has on more than one occasion been openly biased against us.
And I believe Oliver bottled it when he should have sent Marcus Rojo off for a much worse two footed tackle earlier in the season. We have a poor record with him.
Boro should have had a penalty today too which would have put a whole different complexion on the day (not to mention if Liverpool had their man sent off)

Then bear in mind the same ref bottled sending off both Williams & Schneiderlin for obvious 2nd yellows and you can’t even say it was a ‘card happy’ ref… just another one itching to make an example of us.
