After Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Southampton, Shkodran Mustafi faced the media to reflect on the hard fought three points, Alexis’ special goal and his hope that the Gunners can maintain their winning run in the final week of the season.
On the win…
It was an important game and a tough game as well. We knew that coming here was not easy to play. It’s a good team, a team that likes to play. We did well being patient in the first half.
We had opportunities, they had one or two as well. It was an open game. I think we managed in the second half to keep playing our game and waiting and being patient until the opportunity comes. We had a few chances and luckily we scored two.
On Alexis’ goal…
We know that he [Alexis] is capable of doing that. For us, it was important because it was a goal. I’m happy for him as well because a striker lives for goals. He did well to get one.
On Arsenal’s good run of form…
Well, I wish we’d found it [good form] before. Now we have three games and we have to give everything like we did today and hopefully, we’ll achieve our goals.
We did, it faded out at Christmas as usual
We had good form in the first half of the season. The issue has always been to maintain it.
Or the issue is to rise up or bounce back as some day, a little bit earlier. When we fall, we hit the floor hard
Mustafi is clearly new, he doesn’t know finding form late in the season to secure top 4 is what we do after a disastrous spell between Dec to March. Just a bit later than usual this year.
Also glad with the win but still too early to claim “form”. NLD lost wasn’t that long ago. And wasn’t even the score line but the nature of the dominance over us that’s still hard to swallow.
Let’s just hope for that annual top 4 and hopefully the fa cup.

That first half gave me some bad NLD flashbacks. Southampton’s spacing and combination play was too hot for us to handle. But we stepped up.
And Manu losing europa
If our future follows our past and is reliant on scrapping into 4th for Champions League football we want United to win the Europa to keep up the english teams UEFA coefficient, otherwise we might need to get 3rd!
Yes! I’m surprised more people aren’t mentioning this. Man U play Celta Vigo (12th in Spanish League) before Ajax (2nd in Dutch) for easy Europa League win.
Them finishing outside the top 4 is very likely to happen. So EVEN if we do scrape 4th place, Mourinho is likely to have the last laugh.

We played shit most of that run, lets be honest.
As these bright spots have been in relatively short supply, i’m going to engage my inner optimist. Sanchez badge gesture was a signal that they’re closer to working things out. We’ll somehow drag our battered, bruised, limp body of a club into the Champions League and reinforce a few positions with genuinely quality players, while beating Chelsea at Wembley and ensuring our season is still more successful than most of our rivals, despite us being so terrible and them so utterly fantastic. And no, my head’s not coming out the sand until the morning of May 28th.

If we make top 4, we’ve still had a more successful season than most of our direct rivals in that we have reached the FA cup final.
When you look at the table, and our poor December to March it’s plain to see we have massively under performed.
Only Chelsea and United of our direct rivals will end the season with Silverware, I’m hopeful we can prevent a Chelsea double.
