Via Football London (in turn via reports in the Russian press) comes news that Arsenal are after midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.
The 21 currently plays for CSKA Moscow, primarily in central midfield but can apparently play from the left as well.
The report suggests Arsenal could make a £10m signing then loan him back to CSKA for another season, perhaps to allow him to develop further.
However, the Russian press have been pretty unreliable when it comes to Arsenal transfers over the last few years. We’ve been linked with a number of players but none of the deals have come to pass.
Considering Arsene Wenger said he’s after ‘top, top quality’ this summer, we’re going with a sloppy 8 on the Poo-o-Meter for this one.
All of the midfielders belong to us.
I have cska season tickets and the boy impressed me this year. While I doubt he’s arsenal level at the moment, I believe he has the potential to be in the future. What I like most about him is that he is a leader despite being one of the youngest on the team full of strong veterans
I poop a lot, then I get tired. Beavis.
We had the best Russian ever but played him out of position…
That was no excuse for the player to stuff his face with Happy Meals
we’ve definitely had some fatboys in recent memory. arshavin was one (though I loved him). baptista was also pretty roly-poly if I remember right. santos looked liked he’d retired about three years before he joined us.
So what you’re saying is he didn’t need to go-lovin it
If we are talking marquee signings, then this is more of a £10 Eurohike tent that’s already done one trip to Glasto.
A large steaming pile
I want some real transfers to happen, getting impatient
And the transfer window hasn’t even officially opened yet.
It opened yesterday
1st July!
Not according to this
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12691/10862752/when-does-the-transfer-window-open
Which ‘news outlet’ is wrong then ? ;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/transfers
No it didn’t.
Oh yes it did
For English clubs
Not for the continent
But how many times have we also heard that top quality does not always equal top price
It’s only during these transfer windows that we get to hear about various players. The funny thing is people who wouldn’t have even heard their names before would start talking about him as if the certain player is going to be the saviour. Santiago Munez this.. Santiago Munez that.. ??
Transfer windows could be entertaining in their own way..you know!
Well, that’s why agents flock those rumours, Arsenal has a big online presence so it’s the easiest avenue to get the name out there.
I am only here because of the poo. I like poo.
Like, two girls one cup kinda stuff or just the concept of poopin’ ?
I do not think we need a midfielder unless Ozil doesn’t extend his contract and we are forced to well him.
We only have Ramsey , xhaka and coq in central mid. Surely we need someone else. If we play oz there then we need a wingback. Carzola still hasn’t recovered so at this point we need to think of him like jack – if he plays great but you can’t build a team around him
Ox to become a certified CM next season?
looking at the kind of player we’re linked this summer , i think the team is looking at buying another centre midfield player . but i cant understand why when we have a potentialy worldclass midfielder in ox. wenger is better off buying a good backup to bellerin and give more games for ox in the centre.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and set him up to get crushed under the weight of unfair expectations. Ox still hasn’t had a season without notable injury interruptions and has played minimal matches in the middle for us.
Don’t get me wrong, love him as a player and I definitely believe he’s got it in him, but we’ve got to be ready for whatever. And whatever usually means injuries and form gaps we’re not sufficiently covered for (throughout the squad, that is).
Disagree, I think these reports for a CM are a bargaining tool in negotiations with Ox.
Xhaka + Ramsey + Coquelin + Elneny + Cazorla (when fit) + Wilshere (when fit) + Ox + Jeff + Maitland-Niles = plenty of options
U forgot Elneny
So did Wenger ?
Don’t get me wrong. Elneny is a good player but he’s not title winning first choice CM level of good. Whether this Golovin dude is, is a different conversation.
atleast he’s better than coq. i cant for the world understand why wenger is still starting coq ahead of him or any other. if not elneny then atleast someone like maitland niles who despite being young have shown more potential than either
Coquelin is the new Flamini. Minus the bromance and finger pointing.
Play anywhere he’s asked, go all out, probably get a card and out of position at some point.
I rate Elneny highly.
We also have El Neny.
Elneny?
Elneny?
Xhaka, ramsey, coquelin, elneny, ox, wilshere, cazorla, maitland-niles, reine-adelaide, da silva, we are well covered.
Ramsey, Ox and Wilshere are injury prones
Cazorla will be out till November, Coq is now more like squad player and Elneny also. So, would you really rely again on the same midfield that underperformed in last 3 seasons …
We need another midfield as the prospect of Cazorla replacement.
I can imagine Gazidis & Co digging a well & trying to “do” Ozil inside it.
What on earth are you talking about??
I was replying to Heavenly Chapecoense’s post where he has typed “… we are forced to WELL him”
Don’t know why my reply got misplaced.
Taking Ozil into a hole in the ground and doing nasty things to him?
Cazorla and Wheelchair should never count in squad number calculations.
In soviet russia, transfer links you.
And on a more serious note… have no idea if he’s any good, as I’ve never heard of him. To youtube!
Dunno why blogs are poo’ing this.
Personally I’d absolutely love for us to sign Golovkin for our midfield. Having GGG in our midfield battles is certainly the steel that we’ve needed for years.
Whatchu mean they’re not the same person?
Xhaka is already the steel.
The granite, even.
I hope this doesn’t set the tone for the poop i’m about to take
I watch a good bit of the Russian league and he’s a very promising midfielder. Eye for a goal. He’s already a full Russian international for about a year now which is impressive considering Russian squads tend to be on the older side. Reminds me of Wilshere except not as injury prone but he’s not the most talented youngster in that CSKA squad, that’d be Fedor Chalov
Yawn.
rather see more of the yoot come through, like the Jeff and Maitland-Niles, rather than possibly decent but probably bang-average players from elsewhere
Should he stay or should he go(lovin)?
I’m here all week.
I hope your next day’s performance is an upgrade…:-)
I blame the material. I need players with better names.
I need some real Go’lovin’
‘Cause I’m troubled by the things that I see
…
Baby, I need Go’lovin’
Got to have all Go’lovin’
Yours was good too.
I’d rather give Jon Toral a chance, he’s been excellent on loan for the last two years now and can play anywhere in midfield. He deserves a chance with the first team, and with Europa league this season we can afford to try a couple more of our own young players.
On a different note did you guys see the Giroud goal? OoohLala technique.
Our HFB is a far better striker than a lot of people believe. Better than Lacazette. We just need to give him the service that he needs.
Giroud talking about the french national team said he’s been more successful with the two very fast and technical full back players from Monaco providing crosses.
I rate Oli but he can’t truly complain about the service aka Özil…
Possibly his best one. Even more so than the scorpion kick which was of course spectacular but this one had such plain beauty to it.

Hope Wenger hasn’t seen this video. He would have a good reason to save the budget for a CF. Also club needs the money to pay for Kroenke’s consultancy fees.
Thanks for the link, but I thumbed down for your missed opportunity to Rick Roll all of us 🙂
Yep he can stay!
I still rate his goal against westham a few years ago as his best goal. Fantastic first touch under pressure from two defenders then precise shot with his weaker foot. If only he can be more consistent, which might happen considering his age.
Is GoLovin related to McLovin?
no
Thanks for clearing that up… 😀
Interesting but not sure if it meets our immediate needs. He looks versatile, neat feet, maybe not quite to full package yet but could push for a spot. Not sure about loaning him back to the parent club for the price paid though. What we are missing is a bit more ball control in central midfield sans Santi and the ability to carry the ball up the vertical (particularly from the middle) Elneny is a poor option, a mediocre player at best. HOnestly we should sell him but I don’t think anyone will be interested so he will hover in… Read more »
All bullshit aside isn’t this the kind of transfer that could pay off down the road? I mean…it could also not pay off. But for 10m, which is nothing these days, I dont see a problem with this kind of thing
Is it me or does this pooping have an Adam sandler ring about it
Sounds fully wengerish, this possible signing. Relative unknown (at least to followers of stronger EU leagues), somewhat Elneny like, but seems more attack minded.
Probably Arshavin has given him a hint about this player, as he is probably now a fat and retired, working as some kind of a scout and having a stamped out card at some popular fast food chain in St. Petersburg/Moscow.
This is just another Kokorin saga.
