A survey commissioned by the Press Association shows that Arsenal gave more playing time to academy players than any other in the Premier League last season.
Although Manchester United used more homegrown players, the ones that Arsenal fielded had more minutes to their name.
Between Hector Bellerin, Alex Iwobi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emi Martinez, Kieran Gibbs and Francis Coquelin, the Arsenal academy graduates played a total of 6,628 minutes – 19.4 per cent of the Gunners’ total.
The individual with the most minutes was Hector Bellerin, with 2,498.
In contrast Manchester City used just one of their own academy products – Kelechi Iheanacho for 526 minutes, of 1.4 per cent of their total, while Bournemouth, Liverpool and Stoke also gave less than one per cent of their playing time to players developed in-house.
Next season could see more academy players break through, as there are high hopes for the likes of Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Cohem Bramall and Dino Plopp.
Excellent by us, far better to have lads that have grown up in the Arsenal way coming through, victory through harmony.
I often think that not many do come through our academy but that just shows how tough it is to succeed given we are one of the best academies that there is.
Excellent article. Interesting read. Imagine if Wilshire and Szczesny were in the team. That would be a far larger number.
Dino Plopp?
Cool name, who is that? What position does he play?
New strike partner for gunnersaurus.
I’m glad gunnersaurus is moving up top as he hasn’t been a success in goal at half time.
I’m waiting for Doggi Doo to have a breakthrough season.
Was he that brilliant young Brazillian that played with Dudu and Kaka, when Dunga was coaching them? I always wondered what happened to him …
Guess who will keep popping up with some late goals?
He has a floating role
Clearly this is where we have been going wrong then…
Dino Plopp??
Young Swiss central midfielder, dubbed the new Ciriaco Sforza.
His father, Stier Plopp, was an Olympic skier for Switzerland, while his mother, Cavalla Feci, played volleyball for Italy.
Dino Plopp really does look like an amazing prospect. Really does have the DNA of some of those old school monsters who used to play
These boys were used for Capital One cup. Bellerin and Iwobi’s statistics is more relevant.
Can we get a poo rating for the likelihood of Dino Plopp making the grade?
Soooo the british core failed…but maybe we’ll move onto a home-grown core instead?
And I just wouldn’t be able to post this comment without a quick bash at the football media. Of course they wont mention this positive arsenal news, just because it doesn’t fit with their predetermined narrative. Yet they’ll continue to fawn over the Spuds…
Honestly, I dont care what kinda core we have, as long as we win.
In Nigeria, we say “who CORE epp?” Meaning, what has CORE ever benefited anyone?
Dino Plopp? Really?
Dino Plopp!?
I believe the player would rather be referred to as Ploppinho
Dino Plopp, signed as a direct result of the poo-ometer
Fucking hell cant believe wenger let this happen.
haha the username makes this comment
Dino Plopp is meant to be the new Kaka!
What about Chuba Akpom? I know it was only one appearance in the League Cup – but he appears to have been deleted from all records on Arsenal.com! In saying that, apparently none of our squad appeared in the League Cup at all! https://www.arsenal.com/first-team/statistics
Dino plopp? Dino the dinosaur did a plop?
Dino Plopp ?
young lads are showing promise this pre season…just stick with them…dont end up losing them…and wish chambers stay to…but i guess m wishin a lot?
Bramall surely isn’t an Arsenal academy graduate…
Didn’t stop the Gobshite commentator vs Bayern claiming that we use our youth in preseason then never give them a chance…
Do we count Bramall as home-grown?
No one mentions The Jeff anymore?
Maybe not homegrown?
He’s not. Was already a professional in France.
