Cech: We missed too many chances

Petr Cech says that the team’s inability to finish the chances they created was to blame for the 1-0 defeat to Stoke on Saturday.

Although the Gunners conceded a sloppy goal, we dominated the game but were essentially toothless from an attacking point of view.

The Arsenal keeper accepted that the Stoke goal might have been defended better but pointed fingers at the attackers who failed to hit the target at the other end.

“I thought that we had done enough in terms of creating chances today and putting them under pressure too, but unfortunately we didn’t take those chances,” he said.

“The difference was that they probably had two and a half chances and scored one. We had plenty and we didn’t.”

On the Jese goal, that turned out to be the winner, he continued, “We could have defended it better, but this is only one thing.

“Another thing is if you create so many chances, you need to score. Today we scored a goal which was disallowed and that’s the way it went today.”

Alex

It’s Özil’s fault.

Mein Bergkampf

Nah mate, it’s a lack of defensive cohesion and decisions not going our way. Didn’t you hear our glorious leaders interview? And it’s certainly nothing to do with the same old outdated tactics, the same old individual errors and the same old ability to throw away games where we dominate every single stat.

Sam

I think Alex is joking mate!

Rook

I’m beginning to believe that Arsenal is now a mentality not a team, even the officials sees us as that. Whenever we play “I prepare for the worse while praying for the best” that’s the mentality, I couldn’t help but admire chelsea yesterday, apart from the own goal they set their objectives did the simple things and collected their three points. Not passing the ball around in front of spurs goal area till they loose possession cause that’s all we do.

Rectum_Spectrum

Sarcasm folks. I liked it anyway.

Ozil also made me miss the train this morning. I’m pretty sure the hightenend tensions in N Korea are entirely his fault also.

Sam

and this weather in August. It won’t do, Mesut.

Martin

Why? He created chances that no player took advantage of.

Possession

Love the work rate that Danny Welbeck puts in but he couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo from 3 feet !

bern pero

he scored the week before which means it’ll be a while

midgunner

I’m actually not too concerned about not scoring goals, it’s the rest of the side that has me awake at night. There seems to be an inherent weakness in our midfield and defence, which I think only the transfer market might fix at this late stage. And for god’s sake lets sort out the back three. Surely Per or Kos has to come in against Liverpool. Shift Nacho over to Left CB where he’s looked well capable in the past, with Kola ahead of him. That’s a really solid left side and they looked quality together there in pre-season. Make… Read more »

Sam

could he hit a cow’s arse with a double bass from 3 feet? Or would he shoulder it over the bar?

Laughing Stock

He was then joined by Johan Djourou who said we need to learn from our mistakes

Crash Fistfight

Maybe we have been learning from our mistakes all this time, but the team is like Homer Simpson: every time they learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of their brains.

Jamal bakhat Abdallah jrey

I agree with you Mr.Crash Fistfight.
The question is why the club keeping welcott and welback like this players?

Nic

Arteta says we need to be more efficient.

GUNNERS

arsene Wenger should seriously looking for players to improve the squad right now..at least it can save the team from his awful tactics.

LyonSL

Players like Welbeck, Ramsey, Ox should not be starters for the club that aims high. They’ve got no concentration for 90min., no end product and they can’t dictate tempo of the game. But they can definitely change the game if they come in us super subs. Secondly how can Wenger expect good team performance and good defending when half of the team play out of position or lack confidence and form (Bellerin, Holding, Mustafi,..)

Isaiah Rankin

Fair point. You can still win three points if you concede but if you fail to score, you’ve automatically dropped two.

We’re not United in the 90s or United in the 00s or…you get the idea – we can’t rely on refs and linos to give us penalties or tight offside calls when we need them.

Let’s get Sanchez back and Coquelin or Elneny alongside Xhaka or Ramsey, and use some proper centre halves.

A proper balance means you can be more effective at both ends.

Tel

We’ve created 38 chances in two games, so it’s not as bad as some people are making out already, if we were leaking and not creating I’d be VERY concerned but that’s not the case. What does concern me is that Wenger won’t buy good enough players who convert some of the 38 chances into goals. We’ve got a net spend of £20 million for god sake, and the Window closes in a couple of weeks I believe. I love Xhaka but the bloke is running in treacle, it kills to me to see Chelsea sign Kante and then Bakayoko,… Read more »

Crash Fistfight

You’re not concerned that we’re creating loads of chances and not converting them, whilst conceding from practically every chance the opposition creates?

When will you get concerned?

Automatism

But how many of those chances went into our proper strikers tho (Laca & Giroud)? I seem to remember most of the good ones went to Welbeck or the midfielders. At Stoke nobody even pick up Laca’s movement until Giroud came along (that offside goal). Also happened like that with the first game too.

No matter who we sign, If the manager doing the players disservice by playing them out of positions, it’s hard for the players to play as they should & could.

Mesut O\'Neill

Maybe we should have gone for Matic? Think he would have been a good fit in our system.

Elcamino

Yes Matic is exactly the type of player we need.

Elcamino

We created some half chances but none fell to Lacazette…the only player with finishing skills. We need to get him the ball more. Do we need a DM or a santi type?
A Santi type.would need a dm beside hime and Granite aint that guy…plus hes too careless.

determined culture

welbz is the culprit
