Ramsey: We showed solidarity, now we have to build on this

Aaron Ramsey was awarded man of the match for today’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, and he spoke to Sky Sports after the game.

Here’s what he had to say.

Was the Liverpool performance fresh in the minds, have the team and Ramsey shown what they’re really about?

Yeah, we needed that against a top team and in recent years when we’ve come here we’ve struggled. We showed today what we’re capable of, that we can compete against the best.

We showed solidarity, we showed we can create chances against them and on another day we might have nicked that, but it’s what we needed after Liverpool.

What was better? Was it tactics, the attitude?

I’m not sure, I think we played higher up, we played in their half, so when we lost the ball we are able to get back into positions a bit quicker. At Liverpool perhaps that gap was too big but we showed that we really wanted to get a result here today, and we got one.

Was it better with you and Granit Xhaka? Was there more balance?

Me and Granit have played a lot of games together now, from the back end of last season, and we have a good understanding. We had one bad half against Liverpool, but the rest of the games I feel like we’ve done well.

Even at Stoke we played well but we didn’t come away with the result, but I feel like we’re in a good place, and we’ve just to keep building on this.

Does it feel like more than a point away to a big team, coming and playing the way you did?

Yeah, of course. We’ve dropped a few points already so it was important to come here and get a result. We’ve shown that we’re capable of doing that.

Making Arsenal Great Again

Great performance! We need to kick on from here

keneh

a draw but I was proud of the arsenal today

Third Plebeian

The lads played ever so well!

Mongolian Gooner

It was nice

andre santos

to points lost!

ritabhash

As long as Rambo keeps showing up like he did today, we fans won’t have a problem. Sead had a off-day but doesn’t matter. He’ll be back stronger and better the next time.
Great performance, proud of the result.COYG

Alex

Once Özil is on the pitch, Ramsey forgets all discipline and goes for Hollywood… strange…

My wig smells cheesy

I thought Sead was solid. Led by example, even if technically he had one or two loose passes etc

Martin

A couple of lose passes but thought Kolasinac was excellent just as all the team were.

Paul

Potential Motm for me.

Utkarsh

I’d say monreal has a big shout for MOTM too! his aggressive defending was so positive and often put us on the front foot. But yeah i agree Ramsey had a good game in general especially that mazy run where he hit the post

santori

Mustafi.

Had Morata in his pocket, many key tackles and clearances, unlucky he was off side for the goal.

Or Ramsey who was indefatigable.

Dave M

Koz, Welbs, Ramsey, Monreal, Bellerin and Mustafi all very very good today.

V h

I wouldn’t say Mustafi was good. doesn’t stay on his feet and his rashness almost cost us when he played pedro onside.

Dave M

Then you’d be wrong. He was excellent

Gunnerer

Ramsey looked really promising today. Its great how Welbz, Rambo and elneny are giving their detractors reasons to swallow their words. We definitely need to build on this.

BromleyGooner

I have criticised him so many times in the past but he was really great today. Disciplined and picked the times he went forward. Surely it can’t be a coincidence that with a forward who is more willing to defend like Iwobi he looked so much better. You can’t read too much from one game but it looks like it’s either him or Ozil in big games.

dennis

Completely agree

Dave M

You need to stop listening to stupid pundits and commentators obsessed with slandering Ozil. Plan and simple he is world class.

BromleyGooner

You need to stop assuming that people are making their opinions based on other people’s thought and that they have a smaller brain than you think you have

Dave M

Back to your tabloids BromleyGooner

PFo

Hold on , you can’t read too much from
one game, but then you proceed to do just that? Also, you acknowledge he looked more disciplined and picked his moments to get forward, so surely that was the reason he and we looked better, nothing to do with Ozil (who was excellent just last week, let’s not forget).

BromleyGooner

I am not neccessarily saying that is the case, happy to be contradicted. It was interesting considering how poor we have been away against top 6 and it looked like we were more balanced today. Iwobi is clearly better defensively than Ozil so was suggesting it might have met Ramsey look more balanced. Although we created more chances in the first half than we have for a year away from home without Ozil, but offensively OF COURSE Ozil is a much better player than Iwobi. Need to be careful to point out any downside to Ozil’s game though as there… Read more »

caligunner

If thats the case they also did it without Alexis. What does that mean? Plus the club didn’t play as well in the second half with Alexis. Does that mean something too? lol

Lol no Iwobi is not better defensively. Do you actually watch the games?

Of course he has flaws just like every footballer does. Its how the teammates play together to play as a unit.

Alex

OK we won or? Oh, no, a draw… I thought we had won the Championship by reading the comments…

PB70

That’s probably because you lack any analytical skills. It happens.

Mistafi

If you throw bricks at every stumble, you should sing praises every time we stand up as well.

Gunnerer

Mustafi – the great philosopher and Morata tackler of our times

PB70

Couldn’t agree more, Mistafi. Seems quite a few regulars on these boards who are incapable of any satisfaction when it comes to AFC…it’s almost like they want for us to mess up.

It’s obvious they want the manager and/or certain players out of AFC and are under some misguided notion that if we do badly enough they will get their wish.

Mistafi

Too many fans who end up being dicks to our own players too often which is sad.

PB70

Too true. Transfer window is done with. This is our squad, Wenger is our manager. It’s easy to get negative when we lose (especially the thrashings). But it’s fucking annoying coming on here after a good game and a few muppets still whining.

I’ll take a page form my own rantings and focus on positive comments like yours, Mistafi 🙂 Great performance today in a game I wasn’t feeling overly confident about!

Martin

We are in the Premier League not the Championship. A very good performance at the home of the league champions.

TeeCee

Away to Fulham B? I’ll take the point and be happy thanks.

Possession

Did you watch the game Alex….be honest ? You didn’t did you because if you had of done you wouldn’t be spouting rubbish like this.
If you’re a fan learn from this but if you’re trolling get the fuck out of here.

David C

this is the first time Chelsea have been shut out at home under Conte. I’d say that’s worth celebrating.

We also had more chances than them and could have come away with all 3 points. A great game I’d say.

Looney

Monreal isn’t aging at all. When his role is being called into question, he gets back stronger. Incredible spirit. It was a close call for MOTM, but I guess Ramsey is an acceptable winner.

Mistafi

He is an amazing player wherever he plays, so aware of his position and the situation all the time. He’s is an arsenal legend!

Mesut Ozzle

7-8 out of 10 performances every week and he’s such a model pro. Seriously underrated player.

DB10**

He played the first half ever so well. 2nd not so well.
Something to build upon. COYR

Dave M

The first 15 mins of the game we looked terrible. It was just us playing to Chelse’s game plan. Slow build up, turn over, counter attack. Credit to Wenger for uping our tempo and changing the game plan, because the 15-45min mark things were all us by playing chelsea at their own game. Once again we are so much stronger and dangerous going forward and in defence when we play a higher tempo. 2nd half was a good battle both ways. We stayed solid and still had some openings on the break. Just such a pity we couldn’t nick the… Read more »

Vedant

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ve seen such false dawns aplenty over the years. It was a great match but we can’t be satisfied with one game. We need to improve our record against all the big sides.

espen

Spot on for man of the match, he worked his socks off and never stop running. I wish i had his engine and damn he can never stop running.

Goonerink

I don’t think anyone is ‘happy’ with the result, we deserved 3 points from today’s performance!
We are happy at the individuals performance, happy at the teams performance but we deserved a win today no question about it.

Dave M

I wouldn’t say we deserved it because we couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. Not like we dominated the game. We gave it a dam good shout that is for sure. All in all a draw is pretty fitting result if you’re being fair. They had some really good chances too. Much better from us absolutely, but we are still lacking that big statement win. Statement draws kind of summarize where we are at as a club. So do statements like: “we showed we can create chances against them and on another day we might have… Read more »

santori

Yeah it was an opportunity miss to rebound into the top 4 and take points off a rival. Still plenty of work to claw up the table. BUT a good performance particularly defensively and in midfield. Seems there is always added discipline in a game like this that sadly goes out the window against ‘lesser’ opposition. Consistency wins you the league. That’s what we need to apply. Clearly the ability is there. Poor finishing today by Welbeck (the header wide) and Lacazette. Ramsey had a good game all over the pitch. BUT also Mustafi who made many key tackles which… Read more »

santori

I think the tactical discipline today with Ramsey (he switches on in these ‘bigger games’) was telling for midfield.

But also Iwobi helped with extra graft chasing and staying closer to the midfield.

Our passing in tight areas was switched on today because Chelsea did not make it easy with their pressing.

banjo string

I thoght Ramsey was faultless today .
However I’m sure that was theo’s fault.
Also.

*Thought

Teryima Adi

Well done, Rambo. Awesome performance.
