Arsenal face Doncaster Rovers tonight in the Carabao Cup. As ever with this competition there are significant changes to the team selection.
Here’s the side that Arsene Wenger has chosen for tonight’s game.
Arsenal: Ospina, Chambers, Mertesacker, Holding, Nelson, Wilshere, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Alexis, Walcott, Giroud
Subs: Macey, Monreal, Willock, Dasilva, Iwobi, Nketiah, Akpom
Doncaster Rovers: Lawlor, Mason, Wright, Butler, Blair, Houghton, Whiteman, Rowe, Kongolo, Coppinger, May
Subs: Marosi, Alcock, Toffolo, Garratt, Mandeville, Marquis, Williams
With such a lineup, I’d be disappointed if we don’t score at least four goals
It’s not going to take much for there to be a real problem at wing-back this season.
It’s funny too cuz Debuchy is fit
Debuchy must seriously be regretting parking in the managers spot now.
Been saying the same thing. Not much better at LB either with both players starting in the first 11 makes rotation really hard
Lets hope Ospina has learned which color we’re playing in tonight, so he doesn’t pass to Doncaster.
How long until Alexis is fit enough not to be involved in these games?
Until he signs a new deal I suspect.
Nah it’s a fitness thing. Wenger isn’t Mancini
Think some people just like to imagine Alexis being punished
No, just a lighthearted joke. I love the guy and hope he fires us to the title this year then decides to stay.
Sooner the better. My fantasy score makes grim viewing 🙁
Excited to see Nelson get a run. Really rooting for a solid performance from Holding. Needs to get his confidence back.
Come on Arsenal!
Taking this very seriously, which I actually like. I’m less keen on our choice of wing-backs though. I like the players, but neither of them play that position naturally.
Are we definitely playing three centre backs? Doesn’t Chambers play left back as well? Could be 4-3-3 or 4-4-2?
At best, Chambers plays RB. But I’d rather see him as a CB, that’s where his future is if he has one at Arsenal.
FFS Maitland-Niles isn’t a wing back. The last time he was a right WB he was a shambles. The last time he was a left, he was moved to central midfield at half time.
My only hope is that Doncaster is too stupid to notice.
As for playing Holding AND Chambers either side of Mertesacker … fingers crossed.
Playing two centre backs with premier league experience against Doncaster alongside a worlcuo winner… should be fine…
“My only hope is that Doncaster is too stupid to notice.”
Made me chuckle… 🙂
AM-N is fine as RWB. He was originally a winger that dropped back to RB and then DM, but he’s a bit weak as a LWB…
he’s a far better midfielder than wingback . i can understand with the increased competition he would not be able to play there but i would have loved to see him there . same with reiss nelson , his best position is as an attacking midfielder
Walcott in the way of Nelson? or is the kid a geniune prospect for wing back position?
The boss mentioned he thought he could play there a few weeks back. We’ll see. He also thought Hector and AMN on the left were good ideas. But if Nelson can mark up properly he might do alright.
So is Nelson starting as a wing back? Maitland Niles was rubbish as left wing back last week but looked really good when he moved into his proper position in midfield. First home game I’ve missed this year so we’ll probably do really well, hope the Donnies don’t crock Alexis.
We should keep resting Alexis in the league to play him in the more important cups to win the treble 🙂
That’s a much stronger line-up than I expected to see. I think we should run riot over Doncaster. Really pleased to see Nelson and Wilshere starting, I hope they shine.
Excited to see Wilshere-Elneny combo in the middle
Any streams showing the game nah?
try ronaldo7dotnet. I’m watching on that one.
It’s all down to how well we control the midfield and close down on the outside to cut out crossing. The attack should be there.
Shit, no Jeff…
Still recovering, I hear.
With this team we are going to hammer them! COYG!
They’ve got bot Blair and May.
I’m glad that our skipper is PM.
You have won the Internet for today.
Looking forward to this, some big names with a point to prove and some youngsters hoping to impress.
This is a game I want to watch! Good to Wiltshire back.
Right, where’s those streaming sites..?
