The Alexis Sanchez saga continues with suggestions today that Manchester United have made a bid for the Arsenal forward.
The Guardian report that Jose Mourinho fancies his chances of getting one over on arch-rival Pep Guardiola, and has submitted a £25m offer for the Chilean – £5m in excess of City’s bid.
United are also offering the possibility of including Henrikh Mkhitaryan in any potential deal, a player that Arsenal had a real interest in before he signed for United in what has been an unhappy spell at Old Trafford for the Armenian.
Sanchez was left out of the starting XI for last night’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, raising more speculation about his future, but came on as a second half substitute.
It sounds implausible though, for a number of reasons.
1 – Arsene Wenger wouldn’t sell Jose Mourinho the steam off his piss, let alone his best player during the January transfer window.
2 – Nobody in their right mind would want to go spend time working with Mourinho when the other option is Pep Guardiola.
It’s almost as if this information has come to light in order to put a bit of pressure on City to up their bid, although surely that would be far too cynical a thing for the skylarking through the meadows world of professional football.
It’s prompted us to do something we haven’t done in a long time, and give a 10 on the Poo-o-Meter.
WATCH OUT BELOW!
The sewers have backed up after that poo rating
That Jose is a slippery little turd
Can we have a vomit-meter for this one please.
The sky blue media darlings are bad enough but the thought of him playing from mourine in their ‘theatre of dreams’ makes me physically sick.
Also, more practically, I could care less about strengthening City, because they’ve won the title already. But anything that might give United an advantage in the league or Champions League is a no-no for me, primarily because Mourinho is the Donald Trump of modern football.
Ok but I think Arsene does care. His proudest achievement is still the Invincible season. Strengthing city would effectively gift wrap it for them. He may not say it but I think he would be very concerned about doing that.
Sickening as it may be one can see how united might be more attractive to Sanchez. He could go to City and never play, and we all know he loves to play. Being stuck on Pep’s bench would kill him. He would be a nailed on starter for United and who’d blame him for thinking they’re going to be more competitive than us.
Gare l’eau
Nah. Fuck Mourinho.
Only with a large thick bamboo
Yeah the correct move by Arsenal is for us to turn the them down, only deal with City or a foreign club, and make a significant bid for Mkhitaryan anyway now they’ve indicated they don’t want him.
Moneybags United finished below us last season so let’s put them in their fucking place.
20 million, 25 million. It’s not my money so I don’t give a fuck.
As rubbish at this seems, I’d take a determined Mkhitaryan over a lack-luster Sanchez. The money they are talking about in football terms is not that great so I’d even take a straight swap.
or a trade for Martial.
How come there are so little player for player trades in football? North American sports only trade for players or draft picks, no such thing as buying a player.
Maybe because of the Bosman ruling in the 1990’s which gave control back to players in terms of where they moved and who they signed for? Clubs will always take cash over a player and players would rather choose where they play for themselves.
That was also a Europe-wide ruling based on the region’s philosophy of freedom of movement for workers. The North American system doesn’t have to pass that regulatory standard.
It’s a good question, I don’t know enough about why the American trade system came about to say for sure.
The trade system in the us comes from the world of early 20th century baseball.
There are so many factors that teams have to consider when trading players. Do both players want to come, or at least enough not to dog it? Are their salaries manageable? Can the positional needs of two teams create a match?
But in the US, trading is the only way to acquire a player under contract. It’s easier to just buy players. There’s a reason bartering is no longer the currency of the world.
Increasingly in North America, especially in baseball and hockey, top players include “no-trade” or “no movement” clauses in their contracts (only top players have the bargaining power to do so) and will waive these clauses only if they wish to go to another team. In European football, such a clause is effectively implied in all contracts. Not only can a player not be traded, he cannot be sold unless he agrees.
I think it has to do with how North American sports leagues are just one entity franchise system. Like the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL are only making transactions within their own league. Players are owned by the team but the contracts are written so they are transferable to other teams. While European football the teams are clubs that actually own the players contract that the FA has nothing to do with but having guidelines? So if Arsenal want to transfer a player, the 2 clubs have to agree on a price and the player and club have to agree to… Read more »
Have you watched them at all? If anyone’s been lack luster this season it’s Mkhitaryan.
Alexis must be the only player who’s isn’t a striker to have scored against every Premier league team he’s ever faced. People have short memories.
We all know Mkhitaryan is a great player, and maby a new club would help him back to his best. One thing is for sure, you would have a hard time finding a quality player like him for 20 mill .
Could be down to the manager. Maureen once had a lacklustre DeBruyne and a lacklustre Salah on his books.
Are we really sure wenger wouldn’t sell the steam off his piss (which i heard he named “Sanchez”) to moaninho if the offer was 25m + a good player?
selling to City is understandable to the extent that City have already clinched the title and we are not competing with them for anything. United is a top 4 rival. Surely we wouldn’t strengthen them now?
Then I remember what we did when United were our title rivals a few years ago…
Exchanging Sanchez for Mkhitaryan and 25 strengthens us as much as them. He’s a balanced goalscorer and a creator, in the right environment, and a team player. Surely we should back ourselves to get the best out of him?
Mhykataraen is good id take that deal because ozils gone in summer and a simalar player?
no matter how much we get out of Mkhitaryan this term (if he comes), Sanchez would make Manu infinitely stronger this term, and therefore we would be harming our own prospect of finishing top 4.
We would not let Debuchy go to Man United when he was not ever in our team.
Alexis , City and United can all eat a bag of S**T for all i care , i just want this season to end so the new manager comes and gives us fans something to be hopeful about.
But this man always respects his contract so I believe he is not gonna leave by the end of this season
Wenger always respects his contracts. Lucky us.
Juicy.
LOL. Maureen doing this just to spite Man City and get some pressure off him from his own club fans. We should send him a pic of Arsene showing him the finger and instead bid 30 million for Pogba just to irritate the fuck out of him even further.
£30,000,001
Bidding war!
First to £50 Million wins.
Donald Trump Vs Jose Mourinho would be a good fight
One of those fights where it’s a shame there has to be a winner.
Trump would win. He has nukes and would burn Manchester. Mourinho & Manchester Utd don’t have any nukes. Obvious who will win.
Although there are many similarities, Mourinho works hard and is competent at his job. Also, as much as I dislike Mourinho, I have no reason to believe he is a racist.
as if he’s going to go to utd…but if he is then sell sell sell
25m and Mhikitarian isn’t TOO bad of a deal. Better than anything City will offer.
two reasons why I think its plausible
1 its more money
2 he sold rvp to united, and he wasn,t a big fan of fergie
There was a mutual respect between him and Ferguson, though.
The reality is that we weren’t really competing with United for a league position when we sold them van Persie. We are competing with them for places 2-4 now. Obviously, we are not competing with Man City.
would be great if we could get mhkitaryan out of it. always felt he is being underutilized at united
If he’s being underutilized there, imagine how underutilized he’ll be here.
Only sell to Utd if Mourinho bids for Wenger as well.
Remember when we paid off the Emirates and we thought the long running saga of every transfer window where we have a will he won’t he story of our best players leaving was over?? Good times!
Pepperidge Farm remembers
I could deal with Sanchez going to City for £35-40mill providing we replaced him.
Seeing him go to United would make me very very angry, the only way I’d consider it? Is if they threw in Martial instead of Mkhitaryan
What worries me is Sanchez agreed £250k a week with City. Surely this should not be beyond what we’re capable… Give him £300k and keep him
I don’t think the MAIN problem with Alexis are his wages demands, we could and i would be surprised if we didn’t offer him money around that ammount. The problem is, sue me, we aren’t competitive and we haven’t been for a long time, and we’re pretty sht at football lately, and for a guy as ambicious as him, is normal that he would want out from a club with little ambition
Also going there now gaurentees him a pl medal…
its not about money, he doesn,t want to play for arsenal
I’m sure its gotta be higher then that.
Plus we only have 1 player that is 200K or above that is Laca. Seriously something has to be wrong with our wage structure. We’ve had Alexis and Ozil on the cheap compared to how salaries have taken off the last couple of seasons.
i guess it comes down to how AW having control of transfers and wage structure kills this club. He’s stuck in the stadium era frugality mindset.
to borrow from Spinal Tap, the poo-meter for this one goes to 11.
At times i feel like an outsider looking in seeing Arsenal as no-longer attractive to top talent. Am becoming indifferent with all this Alexis saga
If they offer Martial I’d hope Arsenal seriously consider it as he is delightful to watch.
I can see this happening. Why wouldn’t wenger sell to them? He’s done it before and even if his personal beef with thay cunt mourinho is the issue what makes you think wengers even got a say anymore? It’s clear he ain’t got a scoobys bout the Greek cb we signed.
Don’t know where this crap is dug up from.
My enemy’s enemy is my friend. Or in the case of Mourinho, substitute “enema” for the second enemy.
My enemies enema is my friend?
Mourinho’s enema is my…oh never mind!
As Blogs rightly says, this story is either a) complete garbage or b) a ploy to get City to up their bid, and thus best ignored.
That said, Mkhitaryan is an excellent player when in form and properly coached. Not that we can have any confidence in late-era Wenger getting the best out of players..
I’d sell to Utd. Not as if they’re going to win anything decent anytime soon it is? But anyway, like I’ve said before, I’m past caring.
Sanchez? Wenger’s best player? Oh, please…
Hmm, 10M and Mkhitaryan? Hell yeah if you ask me!
But I’m pretty sure Alexis wouldn’t want to go to United when the other option is City with Guardiola. Still, this situation definitely improves our negotiation position.
The “fatberg” of all rumours, haha!
I wouldn’t mind selling to Manure and Maureen. We all know Sanchez would be a defensive, deep lying left/right back in Maureens 10-0-0 setup and it would be kind of fun seeing Sanchez chewing on his own toes in frustration of not being able to cross the halfway line.
Hate that Coont Jose, but let’s be rational here and talk business….
Drop your £25m and give us Mikh+Martial and you’ve got yourself a deal. I’d say £25m on top but I’m trying to be serious.
Would love Mkhitaryan.
He would be a great signing.
The PR department at Arsenal is in full gear trying to make as much money off of him.
Well played Ivan, you’re nothing if not consistent. Wish the team you “lead” is as consistent.
I would take Mkhitaryan and a few quid for Sanchez –
Sacrificing 4 months of Sanchez in a season where we can’t do any better than a Europa league win is a no brainer for me.
I don’t think it strengthens Mourinho or united as Mourinho is all about defending from the front and avoiding risk and the “Sanchez Tax” is definitely not in his plan.
Think of all the scorpion goals Giroud and Micki would score
If its true, then Mikhitarian + 10mn >>> 35mn from City
Nobody in their right mind would want to go spend time working with Mourinho when the other option is Pep Guardiola. Call me crazy, but if I was Wenger (and for some reason would decide to sell Alexis now), I would have preferred to sell to ManU. The reason is that by doing that it would cause less harm to Arsenal, when that player plays against us. Moronho is complete crap as manager, he can spend another half a billion and then park the bus and bravely lose the battle for second place. City are a real team, and Alexis… Read more »
Unless you had worked with Pep and maybe you didn’t like it… Or Mourihno is offering more money, guaranteed starting berth… etc
“Arsene Wenger wouldn’t sell Jose Mourinho the steam off his piss, let alone his best player during the January transfer window? Are you sure about that?
Wenger out.
This is funny. I sincerely wish Mourinho on Sanchez. And vice versa too of course.
Sanchez’s turn over numbers for United would take the hand brake off the bus at least. Seeing both Sanchez and Ozil lining up with Maureen next season would be upsetting, knowing we had players in our team willing to voluntarily be in the vicinity of that cunt and his giant ego would be a cause of great distress.
Seeing Ozil there, yes that would make me sad. Sanchez? Go right ahead!
Use it to our advantage. Neither club wants to lose out to the other club on anything, so hopefully that could drive the price of him up.
Alternatively, what could either of them offer that’s different to just money? A player swap?
What an absolute joke Wenger has reduced Arsenal Football Club to. Fair game for anyone to make a p*ss-take peanuts bid for a world-class player who no longer wants to play for us. Regardless of whether or not the bids are serious, it is an utterly embarrassing scenario for this great club to be saddled with and epitomises Wenger’s unforgivably shoddy mismanagement in a nutshell. I really can’t wait to see the back of him. The man is a menace.
Have a day off….
Like our defenders did up at Nottingham Forest? When your idol leaves, you have my permission to do likewise.
Call me crazy, but I think this is an excellent offer and we should take it. Lacazette’s goals would increase as Mkhi can pick out his runs and he also scored 15 in the Bundesliga before being converted to a defensive winger by Maureen
This is the way it is going to be now Gooners, at every club. Managers nor boards rule anymore, players do.
Moroninho is more interested in getting one over rivals on a personal level than just football. 75 million for Lukaku? do me a favour. He only did that because Chel$ki wanted him. Now Pep’s about to get Sanchez he wants to get one over him too, throw in the fact that it hurts Wenger and its Christmas come early.
I hope Conte knocks him out the next time they meet face to face.
A little man
Would be worth to sell sanchez to city even if united offered more just to piss off mourinho.
I think maureen and sanchez deserve each other, If true this could not have come at a better time. More money or perhaps even a good player the other way. Hope Özil stays
Wenger will want to keep Sanchez he may be over ruled on this one tho our only chance is to win the European cup and get back into the champions league to attract other players to come in what’s 20 mill fuck all now in football terms he will be worth more to us for Europe
If we can get Mik..Mkih..Myki…the armenian fellow, I’d stamp the deal done right now…if I was someone else…who is in charge of things…at Arsenal.
I say someone should just drop Sanchez off in the middle of Manchester and let them fight it out amongst themselves.
Fuck em.
Fuck em all.
But if we can push price to 25m mark, take it wherever offer comes from (except maybe Liverpool or Spurs since we are in direct competition for top 4 with them) In actual fact Chelsea and United at 47 pts have a bit of a gap on us but it isn’t unbridgeable either. My concern is midfield is hollowed out further with us selling one of our better back ups in Le Coq instead potentially electing to rely on youth again (AMN having to adapt to another new role) and mediocrity in Elneny. And defense is also questionable. Mavropanos is… Read more »
