Pardew: Chambers not on WBA radar, no bids for Evans

Alan Pardew says West Bromwich Albion have not received any bids in January for defender Jonny Evans and says rumours linking Calum Chambers as a makeweight in a deal with Arsenal are false.

Arsenal and Manchester City are thought to be weighing up a bid for the Northern Ireland international having had bids in previous transfer windows rebuffed.

Facing the press on Friday, Pardew said of the 30-year-old’s future: “Nothing has changed on that front.

“The only good news is he’s fit, whereas he wasn’t fit last weekend, so you can expect to see him on the team-sheet this weekend.”

On Chambers being linked, Pardew added: “That name’s not entered into my thinking, or names at Arsenal or Manchester City or Manchester United if I’m honest.

“When there is an offer on the table we will exercise our plan, if the offer is acceptable to us.”

Given Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal are struggling with injuries and Per Mertesacker’s career is coming to a close, it would be something of a surprise to see Chambers, who signed a new deal at the Emirates only recently, leave the club. That said, stranger things have happened and the interest in Evans is certainly real.

Mr Fandango

Why on earth would we sell chambers?

Man

Why on earth would we buy evans?

santori

Yes. Johnny Evans age 30yrs so close to Koscielny’s age.

Makes a lot of sense only to the media and those who are fans of Silvestre and Squillaci band aid approach.

😀

santori

He was much improved against Chelsea.

Why on Earth world we wasn’t reject Evans

?

Translation: Why on Earth would we want (the) reject Evans.

Did I get that right?

Third+Plebeian

Personally, I like the idea of renaming our planet, Earthworld.

Alphie

Feels like arsenal need an athletic powerful Centre half. We need someone dominant in 50-50 scenarios. Gabriel had that in him. Seeing that forest striker toy with our defence time and again was pitiful.

santori

What about Debuchy though Pardew? Fancy him?

Just 12m quid should do.

ritabhash

Why would we let a 22 year old bright prospect leave for a 30 year steady and limited footballer who will have atmost of 2 peak seasons in him?

Arsenal leaves me completely flummoxed at times.

If this is the figment of imagination of the good-for-nothing English media, they really need to try harder

Mr Fandango

Especially after he performed so well against last seasons champions only a couple of days ago. There’s just no need to sell him at all.

Chinaman

I’d rather pursue with Chambers, Holding till June. If we’re not satisfied then look at new players. Other areas (Backup fullbacks, Sanchez & Ozil replacements) are in greater need for reinforcements

Stuck on repeat...

Seriously? Is this our trasfer window plan? Chambers plus money out, with the pssibility of Evans in? On top of loosing Le Coq & likely Sanchez… with Theo & others rumoured? What on earth is going on!?!? FFS.

Mayor McCheese

You’re really mourning the loss of Coq and, potentially, Theo?

Stuck on repeat...

If it means we get the likes of Evans coming in, then YES! TBH.

Matt

You lost me at “Pardew.”

Stuck on repeat...

Think I prefer our transfer windows where we clearly have no plan at all. This window (where seemingly, there are hints of a plan…somewhere) we are deluded & baffling as f@#$.

Danny

Yeah but you don’t have to believe all the bull shit though if you don’t want to.

TexasGooner6

Why buy Mavrapanos unless Wenger is not keen on Chambers or Holding?
