Brighton 2-1 Arsenal – player ratings

Another day, another dollar demoralising defeat. This time we went down 2-1 to Brighton, making it 8 losses in 2018 along, and also 8 losses from our 15 away games this season.

If you’re a glutton for punishment, the report and goal clips are here.

And here’s how the players rated today.

Love the Mkhitaryan comment. “Has adapted to life at Arsenal”

Dave-o

fkn sad

Goongot

That mustafi rating comment made me laugh so hard ??

Sandman

It was definitely the Mickhitaryan comment for me. Facetiousness at its very best! _/\_

Lord Bendnter

hahaha yea that had be for a second too 😀

PepKlopp

We need Sanogo, he’s top, top quality.

Reality check

What has iwobi improved on in the past 2 years, his final ball or shooting hasn’t improved at all, another ox story developing here. At least ox is English and had inmense raw talent so he got his second chance, don’t thing Iwobi will get one if he doesn’t get his act together.
What do these guys practice during their training hours, cheesy hi5 techniques, singing skills, hairstyles: what exactly.. I haven’t seen a single players at arsenal who has added something to his game after joining the team.

GoonerJust

Lewis Dunk had scored 4 own goals this season and last night we presented him with a real goal at 7th minutes. This is utterly not funny.
Our response in the 2nd half was typical Wenger strategy, do side passes, back passes, walk the ball into the final third…….and loose it.

Lanre

Jesus Christ!! Arsene Wenger on Sky Sports yapping about how he can turn things around. How possible is it for a human to be this stubborn. I would actually think him dogged and admire his stubbornness if i wasn’t afraid for his sanity.

Fireman Sam

We need someone to attach electrodes to Wenger’s tits

Tay

I understand your frustration but you can’t expect him to say otherwise.

The whole thing that he should announce retirement or get sacked now is born out of frustration and not really feasible. It would put us under more chaos.

Let the season end. Then is the correct time to leave.

Cagooner

Disagree. Let Bould and Laemann see out season. It couldn’t be worse. Look what happened to Leicester after Ranieri left – a lift. Chelsea won CL with temporary manager.

I have no respect left for AW. He’s stubborn and selfish. He DOES NOT care most about the club. This is now about him and his ego. Please just leave.

Jimbo1

I cant see what would change if Bould took over. He just sits there with his arms crossed offering little. If he is working with the defence in training it clearly isnt getting through as this team are a shambles. Maybe someone like George Graham could be called back till end of the season to shore things up. We are not going to win the Europa League with the team in this kind of form.

James

Ian Wright said something on an Arsecast about Wenger not allowing SB to do individual work with the defenders. If you follow the official Arsenal channels on social media you know that practice at the club is a joke. I don’t blame Steve Bould. AW is controlling and clearly doesn’t feel that the recent results require a change to be made in how they train.

Monkey knees

Bould is, sadly, appearing to be the same as Wenger. No passion, no attempt to assist change or boost moral. Large scale changes needed. Now.

Stuck on repeat...

I too hope that AW goes. But he can take that inept Board with him too.

Seriously, a time of crisis at the club & not only are they silent, but are now also no where to be seen. Cowards the lot of them.

For years they have let AW be the fallguy for their hopelessness, & now they just shirk away into the background when he’s most exposed. Pathetic, & a change of manager must only be the FIRST step if we are to see true change.

PeteyB

The correct time to leave was probably after the Chelski FA cup win..
This is tremendously sad. Just hoping beyond hope that we get our shit together for Europa League. *if* we won that all (or at least most) would be forgiven.

some fat fella

he has a finance degree and club is ran by some American businessman (who owns 6 sporting franchizes that 3 of have finished rock bottom and 2 bottom half while Arsenal is his most promising….) He’s talking about clubs financial situation, he will turn it around when we sell on Bellerin and Kolisinac in Summer

lula

I loathe the board and the owner. Loathe them.

ColouredArsene

Abhor, dislike, detest, hate, despise… not enough words.

Rob67

Yes. That’s a good call Blogs. When the camera scanned Directors seats I didn’t see more than Rice and Primorac.

A disgrace that they couldn’t show. Mind you I wouldn’t recognise Josh Kronke. Are you sure he wasn’t there ??

I have defended Chech in the past but he was woeful for their first goal and not much better for the second.

Bosscielny

I genuinely think that if the fans turn the heat on the board and the owners, it might just wake them off their asses.

It is their job to make a change if the manager seems incapable of doing his job.

It would be interesting to see as to how they respond to the banners saying Gazidis out or Kroenke out.

Milo

They don’t give a shit about heat from the fans. The only heat they’ll respond to is if you’d burn the stadium down.

Sandman

Highly unlikely. Fans “turn the heat” and it will be the lowest buck – Arsene Wenger – getting the axe.

Like I’d commented on Blogs’ post, that will ofcourse satiate the fans for a while. Before the same shit with a new manager begins. :/

OdalGooner

I loathe modern football. Arsenal is a company. Not a club. We’re the utter muppets for supporting a company. You don’t see many heated discussions between fans of Nike, or #managerout at your Nando supporters forum.

Toure motors

I think the board will make the change in the summer. They haven’t another choice left.

assistantref

All down to the EL now, if we win that Arsene probably stays, if we don’t, it’s hard to see how even a board as spineless as ours could justify not making a change.

Kwame Ampadu Down

Not having a go at you personally but why would winning the Europa League mean Arsene probably stays ? It’ll just fool the ultra optimists (like last season) into thinking we’re still not in trouble. This club is (sadly) only going one way under Arsene. Winning the Europa League would be a fantastic way for him to bow out & would make his successor’s job somewhat easier so it would be wonderful to see and I pray it happens…..but it in no way whatsoever would be justification for Arsene staying on. That simply cannot be allowed to happen & opening… Read more »

Should he stay or should he go? Go, actually. Plea

Because that’s what Kranke wants – the Champions League money. He’ll see winning the Europa as proof that Wenger should stay and has what it takes.

He shouldn’t stay. He should go.

Georgeycharles

I don’t think assistantref, or many other fans, believe that winning the EL is justification for Arsene staying; he’s just pointing out that unfortunately, the Board probably will..

Dave-o

Win the EL? Never going to happen

Faisal Narrage

Its so bad now, then EL isn’t there to decide if Wenger stays but if he gets to leave with dignity or not.

Sir Henry Norris\'s Brown Envelope

Winning the Europa League? Who do you think we are? We have no chance whatsoever, we are too disorganised and I think Wenger is either disinterested or senile

BenG

If we can’t beat Brighton how can we get passed Milan?

Arsenout

We can’t….gonna be Cats vs Lions..”the angry Hobbit” as labelled by Blogs, has infused his team with the fight and belief, he knew from his glory days with that club.

Arsenalista

You would think that wouldn’t you? but they most likely won’t. If they can go this long and keep ignoring everyone, why don’t you think they won’t do it for another year? We are a business and as much as it would be nice to think kroenke sleeps in Arsenal pyjamas and has bergkamp posters on his wall, the cold hard facts prove he is in it for the money. He is a nefarious leach and happy to be so. We used to mock the spuds about minding the gap, there is an absolute grand canyon between them and us… Read more »

Igor Stepanovs

I am baffled by fans on here rating Wilshere above Xhaka. Dribble dribble lose the ball foul repeat.

Blackadder

As opposed to just giving it away without dribbling you mean? ?

kaius

Look, they’re both terrible players in the context of today’s Premier League. Deepest apologies to anyone who’s kept the faith with Jack, but he was benched for more mobile, *less” talented players at Bournemouth and today we saw why. If you’re not mobile enough to get into dangerous areas in this league, you’re not a threat to anyone. If Xhaka was gifted 5 yards of acceleration he’d be close to world-class once he learns defensive awareness. For Sane’s opening goal last game he went flying into a touchline tackle and ended up on his arse, Sane skipped past him and… Read more »

Greg in Seattle

Great comment. This is why I personally still think either of those two need Elneny as a partner; better an inferior workhorse runner to cover their deficiencies than pairing two defense-second guys.

Honestly I thought the new signings might mean we’d accept our defensive problems and try to outscore teams. But I now am completely on board with the problem being a lack of any semblance of a system from which attacking ideas might spring.

Mpls

Our best (!) periods of play of late have had Elneny on the pitch. We need that positionally disciplined deep midfielder to give more stability at the back and allow the more forward players to play.

We had sooooooo many turnovers in the last several matches just trying to work the ball out of the back. He makes himself available and cycles the possession better.

He may not be everyone’s ideal but at this point there’s no use in discussing that because it seems he’s the best option and we haven’t got what we haven’t got.

dont give a xhaka

wuuuut. I would really love to hear someones explanation on what exactly Xhaka gives our team. I think Jack really wasn’t that bad, at least he tries to move the ball and at least he tries to open and ask for the ball. And at least he works on getting his ass back into position when we lose the ball. Xhaka on the other hand consistently walks back, never has a clue how to position himself. And he always just makes the same routine passes, never looks up to see where he really should pass and when a little bit… Read more »

Art Van\'Delay

Not too clever really are you.

Jimbo Jones

Jack wilshere impacts arsenal very negatively. He is a nothing player

Kwame Ampadu Down

Jimbo, to be fair….we haven’t a single midfielder this season who has really had a positive impact. Until we get the balance right (or even not terrible) there’s not really much point judging individuals. Neither of Xhaka/Jack or Xhaka/Ramsey were ever going work. How Arsene can’t see this is beyond me.

Jimbo Jones

Very true. I just get frustrated with the Jack’s going to be a future captain and he’s the only one who cares bollocks I hear far too often

The end really can’t come soon enough; we’ve got so much talent in our squad and the sooner we start to make the change the better.

Kwame Ampadu Down

Fair enough.
Agree with mpls above. In this current squad, Elneny simply has to play…..and that is a shocking indictment of the job Arsene has done the last few years as he is miles off the required standard. (I’ve nothing against the lad; he seems a really good lad & a good pro who gives his all every time he plays)

Jimbo Jones

Agree. I’d be Very happy to see El Neny get a chance and a run in the side. It’s telling that one of our best periods in recent seasons was when Coq was played in the DM role and brought balance to the team and a platform for us to build from. Obviously this was forced on AW not by his design. However he reverted to putting as many attacking players on the pitch as possible very quickly and neglecting defence. El Neny could work whether it’s Jack, Rambo, Xhaka alongside him who knows but he’ll bring mobility and do… Read more »

Billy+Enfield

Lol.
Yeah. I’m Jack’s fan but some blind bias on that voting.
I’ve been defending Xhaka cuz he’s not a Defensive Midfielder (which Wenger keeps insisting of deploying him as).
Second half, Xhaka played a lot further up the field and was at the hear of some of attacking football we played. Where as Jack, was just constantly running into people and losing possession.
And still people voting Jack higher/ same as Xhaka.
I won’t be surprised to see on here, that Global Warming is Xhaka’s fault.

Paul Smith

I feel sorry for Blogs. Insanely repetitive blogging being forced upon him at the moment…good luck Blogs, I think you’re going to need it over the next couple of months

David C

You do a great job making us laugh. Sadly, Arsenal and Wenger are trying their damn best to make us cry!!!

They should sack Wenger now, no need to wait until the summer.

AC Milan are so hot right now too. Maybe our crap performances make them underestimate us….here’s hoping.

SFGiants

There are times you’ve got the best job in the world… and then, there are times like this, where you have the worst job in the world.

McTaggart

I am sorry Blogs that you have to shoulder this burden and because Arsenal keeps repeating endlessly their diabolical form you have to think of something positive, very hard in the present situation. By the way, I have meant to ask you, what does “boilk” mean?

eternalflamini

For me the whole thing is actually starting to become perversely fascinating, like one of those documentaries where insects bit each other’s heads off, or use their own mucus to trap flies. Or at least that’s what I tell myself when I sit down to watch the match.

Dennis

Agreed..apart from the actually watching the football bit now

Well that was predictable. Fact is I don’t even get angry any more when we lose. Just a weary and sad resignation. Much like I would like to see from Wenger. Only in writing and legally binding…

Tim

Shitshow

Tony Hall

Watching the club plummet like a stone in freefall is very difficult but it’s not just a new manager we are in need of. Several of the players need to be shown the door, Ivan (wtf does he do exactly), this club has a rotten core and the icing on the cake an owner who does not give a flying fuck as long as the dollars keep rolling in.
I dread to think where it will all end and expect a right drubbing at the hands of AC Milan …

Charvakan

Yes, some players will not be staying at the club, but the new manager has to be given a chance to get the best out of the men we have. Look at Ox; he’s getting better coaching and Klopp is using him better. One step at a time. There is no way Kroenke is going to spend the money it would take to upgrade us everywhere it’s needed, so let’s allow the new boss to find out what some discipline can do for some of the players, and what a better system can do for all of them. Then it… Read more »

Dotman

Wonder whence blogs gets the strength to do this. Shitty job

Xhakalaca

I’m still wondering why Ozil extended his contract if Wenger has lost the dressing room! Money? Or something else?

Vorkey

Yeah it’s a bit strange. Maybe he thought things would change once we signed Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang.

Kwame Ampadu Down

Money.

Faisal Narrage

And comfort.

Fireman Sam

Money, no doubt.

Calm

Well if you are getting 300k a week you might sign too especially after being inconsistent and invisible for most of your time at the club. A so called world class player who has only done well for half a season in 5 years. This contract was an unbelievable opportunity to make about 4 times your worth. Build the team around him they say, cannot wait for another player like Sanchez to grace the badge of Arsenal again instead of those overpaid prima donnas.

Qld Reds

Lowe?

Deano

Bit generous with the marks. Big 0 for the genius now showing signs of insanity for not walking on his sword.

Callum

Honestly think Cech is a massive part of the issue, with a better keeper today I don’t think we concede. Doesn’t help that there are two useless Cb’s in front of him but I honestly think he’s one of the worst keepers in the league. He has games where he makes a lot of saves but I honestly think most of them are saves other keepers would make too.

Nick

Agree about Cech. I’ve said it on here before. I really hope we get a new no. 1 keeper and let Ospina go.

Kwame Ampadu Down

Agreed. Cech wpuld be a great no.2 at this stage of his career, hopefully mentoring a new younger keeper. The only problem with your plan is we tried to sell Ospina last summer too & no one wanted him…

Cyprus The Immortal Gooner

Heard that guy Schezny is pretty good?

Faisal Narrage

Still annoy some me we sold him.
At this rate, I’d take Fabianski back (statistically one of the best performing keepers in the league).

A Different George

Which kind of shows how statistics can be deceiving. Fabianski has played fine, but he is nowhere near De Gea, Lloris, or Courtois.

Calm

Yeah but we talking about Cech!

T. House

I don’t care if he smoked a cigarette after a game once. He can smoke during the game for all I care. He stops shots, bosses the air and hates Sp*rs.

Charvakan

Ask Roma and Juve if they know of a good young keeper.

Edzo

His punch to the brighton player was brilliant and his dropping the header was amazing.

CechMate

Gotta agree with you. I’ve been saying this for a while now, he’s no better than any of our other keepers but gets a clean chit during his bad performances due to his Chelsea reputation. A normal save he makes is considered extraordinary, his mistake is not his issue, his weaknesses like allowing long range shots to go in, near post goals, penalty misses all are overlooked. He was supposed to add 12points to our season’s tally, was supposed to organise our defence and mentor them, but none of this has happened, but he is not to blame people would… Read more »

T. House

A big part of a keepers job is communication and organization. He sees more of the field at one time and isn’t chasing around strikers. Does this defense look organized or like they’re communicating? Or do they look like jumpy squirrels who don’t trust the man behind them to make saves at all?

The defensive disaster is a melange of factors. A good goalkeeper can solve most of those (see also: de Gea). A bad goaltender exacerbates them.

Callum

Hopefully the rumours that the definitely not director of footballs no. 1 target is Jan Oblak he’s got that quality we need. I really do feel like big things are coming this summer. I feel like its the only way players like Auba and Ozil would have signed. Hopefully they know something we don’t

Edzo

What worries me is how many new players we need. At least 5 at my count. Goalie. Two center backs. DM and a winger. Plus, as bad as our starters are our bench is garbage.

Where do we go from here?

mondo

You forgot to mention a right back…

Vincentio Perez

Am I the only one who actually hopes we lose at the moment? And even get knocked out the Europa league. It’s the only way Wenger is ever gonna go or be forced out. The man is an utter Arsenal Legend but he needs to throw the towel in. More bad results and disappointment can be the only way to force the issue.

eternalflamini

Surely Maitland Niles cant be worse than this shower?

Sean Juba

Cunt that he is, I’m beginning to see Sanchez’s point of view. Tosser that he is at least he had a winning mentality. So being in a Dressing room full of has beens, losers and inadequates must have been frustrating. Although 450k per week must have eased the pain. The cunt.

Faisal Narrage

Forget Sanchez, Van P saw this coming from a mile off.

Imagine he was told about the quality of Arsenal by Wenger pointing to Theo. Same Theo we sold in Jan.

Sean Juba

True dat

Conchetumadre

AS7 is not a cunt.
The guy singlehanded carried Arsenal for a long time. I’m thankful for that.
I must say, Alexis saw this downfall and just wanted out.

Sean Juba

I agree he saw it and wanted out. Also agree that he did carry us in som games. But he found us being ripped a new one against Bayern funny. He disrespected he fans on that on. So with respect I maintain the view that he is a cunt.

Vedant

There is now a level zero

Edzo

Also, how can we destroy Everton and then just fall apart. I don’t understand anything anymore.

Goonerink

Have you seen Everton recently? 3 worst teams in the league atm are us Everton and westbrom.

Goonada

We have to accept that BHA is above us ….

WellArsed

What to say anymore? Someone has to pull the plug on this – & it’s clear Wenger isn’t going to step aside. The longer this goes on, the more it damages the club.

Arsene\'s Micki

Groundhog Day ?

Jean Ralphio

Thought Xhaka was our best player today. But why not start El Neny with Xhaka and Wilshere?!

Alex

Harsh on Özil who was at the heart of everything good in the second half especially compared to Xhaka who is unable to shoot a FK properly…

American Gooner

I think it is time to start blaming the boot man, it is clear he is filling their boots with cement and sand. Maybe also the kit man for powdering the kits with lead, it would explain their diminished intelligence and irritability.

Whyyyyyy!? Put us out of our misery, Arsene!

Can somebody please tell me what is the point of playing the same people in defense almost every game? Clearly, Mustafi is making mistakes, so why not play Holding? Can he be any worse? Also, isn’t he the future? The thing Wenger loves the most! Also, for fucks sake.. play Maitland Niles and Elneny.. at least try something different! Jesus! Give the players clear instructions to play resembling something others like to call tactics!

Wenger said earlier this season that playing young cbs is dangerous because they WILL make mistakes at some point. Better than a senior player making them every 45 minutes surely?

Caj

This must be like supporting Rotherham week in week out !!!

Nick

Over the past few weeks I’ve reconditioned my brain to view Arsenal as a mid-table club. It’s great, you should try it: 1. We’re best of the rest (can’t ever hope to compete with the ‘big five’.) 2. If Chelsea slip up we could make 5th spot and qualify for Europe! Great achievement for a club our size! 3. We’ve attracted some very good players to our club, not world class, but better than we could have realistically hoped for. 4. Our home support is buzzing – we had almost 30,000 for the Man City game on Thursday! Think the… Read more »

Forest Gooner

Thanks mate

The ghost of Peter Storey

Neither Mustafi nor Kos are bad defenders, but they are not playing well as individuals and, especially, as part of a defensive unit. This is where you need good coaches and Management. We seem to have neither at the moment.

Calm

When you have a midfield unit that does not protect the defense then you are setting yourself up for conceding goals. I believe the midfield is more of the problem than the defense on their own. Midfield does not support the attack and does not protect the defense. A midfield three of Song Diaby and Fabregas on form would destroy a midfield three of Ozil Wilshere/Ramsey Xhaka everyday of the week.

Faisal Narrage

F*ck it, gotta give Eddie some playtime. Should’ve done so when we had the chance.

Indian gooner

I think iwobi has a hidden sex tape of Wenger. I don’t think any other logic warrants his inclusion in the team. *other Wenger rant*

Mourinho is a cunt.

Calm

Iwobi seems to be the only player that looks like he could get by a player and willing to take a shot. Mhik Welbeck have been much poorer than him in those wide positions. And thinking about it he is the youngest with least experience yet we say nothing of the so called World Class players we supposedly have and England internationals with so many caps to their names. I am sure if you look back to big games with Iwobi included that we won he played a major part in it.

George

I thought it might be photos, but that’ll work. He’s not only bog average, he’s an inherently dumb footballer and there’s no coming back from that.

Gabe

Is it just me or did Cech gift the ball to Brighton everytime he booted it out?

George

Cech is done.

Oh how I wish we’d invest some serious money in a goalkeeper. It should be the priority and we can up the field work from there.

loose_cannon

While this game was painful it wasn’t as painful as seeing Ox turn in a MotM performance yesterday from centre midfield. Again. Makes you wonder which players should really be cleared out and which ones just need a change of style and management to flourish. Iwobi, Bellerin and Chambers are a few that I think could improve, young players that need more direction. Harder to make that case for Xhaka and Mustfafi…

John Lukic

Mustfafi – I love it!!

Calm

Add to that players like Holding and Joel Campbell (who actually played better than the Ox when finally given the opportunity) to those who can improve. Wilshere Ozil Cech to those we need to make a case for.

loose_cannon

I find it hard to assess Campbell’s time at Arsenal because, like Perez after him, he mostly played in the smaller games where we tend to do well. But I think he’d be worth keeping and giving another go

McTaggart

Can we include Big Olli Giroud in that bit about letting players go? I really miss him and if someone says it was better to keep Welbeck I will give up completely

Paul

As David Coleman used to say on “Question of Sport”…… “errr…what happens next?”

Tazzy.balboa

Blogs can we just have turd ratings for our players after away games from now on? Better to judge how bad our players are (considering how garbage our away form has been this season).

riddeezy

How did we get this bad?

LuisBoaMuerte

Has anyone noticed how Cech has been playing quite well in games we’ve been hammered in but terribly in the tight ones. Like his good performances are distributed in the least efficient way to gain points.

George

He’s flattered to deceive in those other games – relegation bound GKs makes a lot of saves too.

We simply need better.

Hi-brid

Andrew, I admire your persistence.

Matt+P

Fuck off all of them – the board, Wenger, the players. Pathetic

Kate

I’m still glad I don’t support Spurs.

Indian gooner

I used to be a captain of an esports team. We used to have bad spells of facing major defeats. We had lost confidence and didn’t believe in our ability. We went out of the way to play super weak teams just to regain our MOJO and confidence and to feel confident on our strengths again. We were competitive once we returned to the highest level. All I am saying is that we should swap this team with the reserves for 2 weeks so that we get to see actual football again. This is a team out of ideas and… Read more »

Guns Up

Super weak teams, like Ostersunds, Brighton, Swansea, Nottingham Forest…

David

A change has to be made now even if to show the players and supporters that things will be different next year. Continuing on like this for two more months will do even more damage to the club and my worst fear is we win some meaningless matches late in the season and Wenger is kept on because of that.

Merlin\'s Panini

Someone please put Arsene out of his misery (and sack him) because he just won’t do it himself. It’s so sad to see a once great manager riding on a reputation that was lost years ago. The longer this goes on the more he will embarrass himself.
We will never forget what he did for the club and that will always be special but this has to stop. I hate feeling like this but he is dragging his own name through the mud.

Kartik Iyer

We made Brighton look like fucking Barcelona…couldnt get the ball from them for spells…How can this team perform any better come next season. So weak mentally…no drive no desire! It really hurts deep inside to be so helplessly watching this farce.

Thierry Bergkamp

Bonus rating; that says it all/10 for Brighton fans singing they want wenger to stay.

Fucking Brighton!

Der Kaiser

Total respect for Cech accepting responsibility. If only other would!

leavemyarselona

How many times must Blogs say its not happening for him at the moment ??
at the moment you mean 3 quarters of the season !!! ( Iwobi )

Gunnergetback

Do we need to place this result in perspective…..clearly we were tired from Thursday’s mauling…..oh wait – shitteh beat Chelsea today. Those extra 2 hours rest making all the difference. A question for tomorrow’s arsecast Mr bloggs. What the f$#% does Mustafi have to do to get dropped?! I was praying to see the return of our BFG today. An old wise head who surely could have coped with the searing pace of Glen Murray?! I don’t care who replaces Wenger at this point but be replaced he must! 🙁

McTaggart

haha, the searing pace of Murray, that is the gold and by far the best post yet.

ArsensArmy

I honestly don’t know what to say anymore. And to think it will probably get worse before it gets better.
