Reiss Nelson is close to agreeing a new deal with Arsenal, saying he’s ‘delighted’ with the chance to extend his contract and that he hopes it will be done soon.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, the 18 year old who made his first Premier League start in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Southampton, said, “It’s a big achievement to sign for a big club like Arsenal so I’m delighted with the contract and hopeful that I can sign it soon.
“I’ve got to thank the boss and team-mates around me.”
And he paid credit to Arsene Wenger for ensuring the academy talent is given a pathway to first team football.
“He keeps pushing the youngsters – me, Eddie and Joe – I think he has got a bright future planned for us.
“We just have to keep training well and he is always going to push us and will give us first-team football when the opportunities arise.”
It’s positive news about one of the most highly rated youngsters at the club, and following the Southampton game, the manager said he wouldn’t be signing any attacking players this summer, thus ensuring there’s room for Nelson to develop and earn a spot in the side if he performs.
We’ll obviously wait till it’s all done and dusted, but after some fears he might choose to leave and go elsewhere, this is good news.
Great news. Bit short on players who can play as genuine wingers due to the 343 experiment.
We’ve been short on genuine wingers since Overmars and Pires.
Pires replaced Overmars – they never played a competitive game together
Let’s hope he fulfills his potential! Good news
Fantastic news! He’s fast, has good technical skill, adept at playing on the counter and even in tight situations. Has a knack for finishing in junior level as well. Truly hope that us releasing Ox, Gnabry and Theo is paving the way for Reiss to shine. Something to be hopeful for in this mediocre season.
” the manager said he wouldn’t be signing any attacking players this summer”
I hope he signs some bloody defensive players! And put Mustafi on the bench.
De Ligt of Ajax is looking like a real prospect, although I suspect we may be looking for a more established talent. Really hope we’re not going to ignore this huge issue.
A poor man’s Rob Holding
Not too sure we’d get him tbh. All the top European clubs seem to be keeping a keen eye on the player and from what little I’ve seen of him, he seems to have a very composed head and he’s only 18! Even managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet throughout the entire game when Holland demolished Portugal in the recent friendly.
This is good news. Someone give him a pen 🙂
Go-on son, treat yourself to a few tattoos and a new Mercedes.
Please did anyone knows the where-about of Ryo Miyachi?
I head he was still on cone duty.
He was last seen on a beach in Rio
Apparently at St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. Hasn’t really happened for him. Hope that Asano turns out better for us.
I didn’t know he was at St Pauli–still a very hip club (despite the brown shorts), which I have never really associated with Miyachi (the hipness, not the shorts). Of course, I was also shocked to see Evra playing for West Ham. I assume he will be in Los Angeles soon.
When he came to St. Pauli in 2015 the first thing he did was tear his ligaments. With his first start late in the season he scored two, assisted one and was MOTM. Nest season was hampered by constant injuries, couldn´t get any rhythm and last summer he did his ligaments again. Is now just back in training.
Unlucky guy …
Thank you Hamburg Gooner…. you really make my day with that update
So by saying he won’t sign any attacking players did he mean also not signing a winger? We don’t have any at the moment!
Step Forward Reiss Nelson
Reiss seems to have loads of potential. Hope he comes good with us.
Excellent news. Let’s hope he can shake off the timidness and push on expressing himself.
