Arsene Wenger says Henrikh Mkhitaryan has a chance of playing again this season but the medial ligament damage sustained against CSKA Moscow will keep him sidelined for the next few weeks.
The Armenia international looked to be in considerable pain after sustaining the injury in the second half of Thursday’s 4-1 win leaving Wenger fearing the worst.
Thankfully, the midfielder doesn’t need surgery on the problem, but he will have to sit out the next three games.
“Mkhitaryan has medial knee ligament damage,” Wenger said after Sunday’s 3-2 win over Southampton, ruling him out of the Gunners away-leg against CSKA and Premier League matches with Newcastle United and West Ham United.
“He will miss these games for sure. He could still play at the end of the season.”
If Arsenal make it to the semi-finals of the Europa League there will be a further six games for Mkhitaryan to target, including a return to former club Manchester United at the end of this month.
Bad news. Really hope he makes the semis, he’s a great player.
No one likes their Mkhi being out for too long. Like what we’ve seen so far. Dynamic and hard-working.
Bollocks. He’s been quality.
He’ll be back and firing for the Semis, and the last few games. I should know, my Mikhi loves a semi…..
What sort of semis has your mkhi been to, exactly?
we lost him and now Elneny with a card 🙁
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
A transfer deal with United that worked out better for us ?? Mhiki has slotted in beautifully, really hope he’s back soon as
Well, I agree it worked out for us, especially since we were losing Alexis in any case in the summer. But if anyone watched what he did yesterday in the second half against Man City, it’s obvious that if Mourinho uses him right (which he may be incapable of) Alexis will help them as much or more than Mkihitaryan helps us.
Soooo in other words typical Arsenal, he will need surgery and will be out for 6 months have a “set-back” be out for another 6 months and will return in 2019/2020 season, LIKE A NEW SIGNING.
We haven’t heard that before Arsene.
Arsenal fan and well wisher eh???
You must have viewed my bio. I’m Licensed and insured too.
Typically they do not do surgery on medial collateral ligament because it has access to blood flow and often heals on its own, much like ligament damage in the ankle.
ACL does not have access to blood flow and does not heal on its own so more surgeries are performed there.
Next 3 matches. Well we need him back as soon as poss. Our midfield options are slim. One injury to a player and it very quickly depletes. As I mentioned, we could also benefit from one more mid/winger with pace and ability to take on players. Preferably someone experience as we have Iwobi and Nelson both still young as the only other options in this regard. As for Mhki, we have Ozil and Ramsey who are similar at least. I think we will have to go with Iwobi, Ramsey and Ozil in midfield with Jack and Granit backing. Jack has… Read more »
