Heather O’Reilly Leaves Arsenal

US Women’s National Team legend Heather O’Reilly has left Arsenal with her contract having expired. HAO joined the Gunners in early 2017 on an 18 month deal, she made 38 appearances and scored 4 goals in an Arsenal shirt. She also won the FAWSL Continental Cup in March this year.

Heather was a hugely popular figure at the club and an excellent ambassador off the pitch. HAO will not renew her deal and has already returned to the US and did not figure in the final match of the season at Bristol on Sunday. Josy Henning is also understood to have left.

The Gunners will add renowned international players to their squad this summer, with some announcements expected soon. Heather spoke to Arseblog News about her time at the club at the beginning of this month.

Thanks for your time with us, HAO, it was good to have a legend like yourself aboard for a while — we love legends at Arsenal. I shall remember your enthusiasm for the game, and for the Gunners. We’re sorry you’re going, but we wish you all the best as you return home to the US. Remember us fondly…

So glad you spent some time at The Arsenal. You are a legend here in the states for your international sucess and you added to the class in our club. Once a Gooner, always a Gooner!

Thanks for everything, Heather. You held the team together at a very difficult time, for which we will always be grateful.

Such a shame she lives in the States, as she would have been an ideal person to have on the Arsenal board.
