Arsenal Women have signed experienced Danish centre half Janni Arnth from Swedish side Linkopings to reinforce their defence. The 32 year old will officially join on January 1st when the WSL winter transfer opens.
Arnth provides depth in defence where the Gunners have been short handed by an injury to Viki Schanderbeck and Tabea Kemme has only just returned from a knee cartilage issue.
Arnth has 78 caps for Denmark and has also played for Fortuna Hjørring in her home country. She is currently the captain of Linkopings where she helped her side to win the Damallsvenskan (the Swedish top flight) in 2016 and 2017. She also won the Elitedivisionen (the Danish top flight) title in 2010.
Gunners boss Joe Montemurro told arsenal.com, “Janni is an experienced professional and an important addition to our squad. Her understanding of the game, technical knowledge and game experience is important for our squad to grow. We are pleased to have her with us and I am looking forward to working with her.” Janni will wear the number 4 shirt.
thank god a defender has finally taken one of the defensive numbers!
Happy to see a bit more cover for the squad. Maybe one more utility midfielder and we’ll be good.
The correct team name is Linköping 🙂
Thanks! Now edited 🙂
Thank God! Welcome, Janni, can’t wait to see you in action.
Has she had a head injury, like Cech?
I don’t think so, I don’t think she always wears it. But I am all for a centre half wearing a Rambo style headband!
Welcome to the Arsenal, Janni.
