Vinai Venkatesham has hailed Unai Emery’s ‘extraordinary’ work ethic revealing the Spaniard starts his video analysis of Arsenal’s Europa League away games as soon as he gets on the plane home.
Like Arsene Wenger, who was well known for staying late at London Colney, the new coach hasn’t shied away from toiling late into the night as he looks to implement the changes he thinks are necessary to get the Gunners back in the top four.
Echoing the words of Steve Bould, who also touched on the new coach’s impeccable dedication to the cause, Venkatesham told the Mirror, “His energy is absolutely extraordinary.
“He said I think in his first press conference – which by the way I thought he very bravely did in English, which shows you the type of man he is – he said the one thing I am going to promise the fans is that I am going to work hard.
“Obviously everyone thought that was just a throwaway comment but he is always on it. It is extraordinary. His work ethic is absolutely extraordinary.
“When you are on that long flight home from eastern Europe after a Europa League game and everyone is trying to get a little bit of sleep, he is watching the game, analysing it. All times, all hours.”
Head of football, Raul Sanllehi, also revealed that prior to appointing Emery he took the time to get a character reference from numerous sources.
“The feedback I got from people who had worked with Unai was incredible – always positive. I did not find one element of criticism. I am talking about players, chairmen, technical directors.
“I talked with a lot of people who had interacted with him in his time and it was very reassuring.”
Emery has promised to push you guys… Which means he is going to demand for money when he feels it is right….he doesn’t want the top four teams to get away from him or the lesser teams to catch up with me….I’m very sure Emery won’t be like Wenger who stayed around even when things were rough…Emery won’t tolerate that..he would be gone once he doesn’t see the financial support…he is a competitor and he doesn’t like to be disgraced……….beware Kroenke, Sanhelli and Vinai!!!….support Emery financially!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt Wenger had less energy than when he joined, understandably.
Good to see someone adding lots of energy.
Can we win some big games please?
That last comment by Raul also shows why we need such experienced football administrators in our club. The contacts and experience he has will be a great asset to the club.
Those comments seem to fit with what the French author fellow (sorry I’ve forgotten the name) said on the podcast the other week.. Seems that he is a hard worker with exacting standards but also a man management style that players respect.
I would put Emery among the top 10 coaches in the world and I still think he is underrated tbh.
