Bernd Leno has been called up the German squad for their upcoming internationals against Northern Ireland and the Netherlands.
The Arsenal stopper last played for his country in a 5-1 World Cup qualifier win over Azerbaijan in 2017.
He’ll be scrapping with Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Bayern Munich stalwart Manuel Neuer for a place in the side.
I don’t know what else there is to say about this, but I know one thing: this article would be too short without some additional content.
So, why don’t I tell you about the update to the Arseblog app for iOS. Or better yet, you can go here and read about it. There are some new features, as well as all your old favourites, and if you’re an Arseblog Member on Patreon you can log in and get an ad-free app.
I was also going to tell you about how horrifying I find owls, but that can wait for another day. There’s an Interlull coming up, and I don’t want to use up all that excellent #content when I might need it during the break.
Anyway, congratulations to Bernd Leno. Let’s hope he doesn’t get injured.
Viel Glück!
Bernd’s response to his German call up:
“Germany, you can:
Leno me
when Neuer’s gone
and Stegen’s on the mend
so we don’t ship in goals”
You should get a job for the Sun as a headline writer.
That wasn’t a compliment
Tough crowd…I’ll get my coat…
Neur is overrated
Now, absolutely.
He is still an excellent keeper but it is his arrogance that winds people up!
Owl facts?
An owl can rotate their heads 360degrees. Freaky shit
Technically speaking they can actually rotate up to 540 degree if they go from full rotated in one direction to full rotated in the other: Tawny owl can do 270 degrees from origin (forward facing) in each direction.
Like robots
Yes, but more freaky is what happens if they turn it 361 degrees.
Boss man Leno
I love owls!
Arseblog; a man after my heart. ???
I’m sure I’m not the only one that chuckled a little. What do you say, let’s beat Spud this weekend first so your #content would be very much on a lighter note, eh? ?
You’re one of the honest ones
….. A keyboard happy… would’ve lengthened the article by including a host basic googlable “facts”
Eg. … And the 27 yr old ex blah blah player is excited to join up etc.
Or the 6ft …. Stopper who displaced Cech last season to cement first team. …etc
Or the 60,000 a week keeper who conceded 51 goals last season will be hoping ….etc.
Once again thank you for telling the story as it is.
Who did he replace?
Kevin Trapp?
For me, Leno iOS a 7 out of 10 keeper. Everyone else? Is that generous or about right?
It takes a while to learn the Premier League, particularly when it comes to the aerial threat. De Gea took a while. I’d withhold my judgment for another season.
I don’t know, I think we’ve seen the best and worst of him already. At his worst he makes errors that cost us goals, but at his best there was a period during last season when he constantly made huge saves that kept us in close contests, and some of those saves were insane. His reflexes are actually stupendous and he fully deserves this call-up in that basis.
If I was Theo Walcott, I’d say what we need from Leno is “consistent consistency”. 7/10 is fair. I’d say 7 but looks like a 9 in his good spells.
He definitely needs to be better in the air, which is one area where Cech was superb. Shot stopping is more genetic, whereas I think you can improve your aerial command with experience.
We all remember Flapianski struggling in the beginning, but now we can all agree he’s a great keeper.
Looking forward to Apple’s fall event so they can release their improvements to Leno’s iOS. Maybe some bug fixes or new features will boost cross-collecting ability! 🙂
He’s been decent for us. Plenty of potential for Germany.
It’s deserved but it’s also been quite nice knowing our players aren’t getting injured
This international break really sucks a*s.
The season is barely a month old, less in other major leagues, and already there’s a break?
I know they’re booked in well in advance, but there’s hardly a chance to build any momentum once the season starts.
The owls are not what they seem
We should sign the German factory that manufactures their GKs. Kahn, Neuer, Lehmann, Ter Stegen, sheesh!
