Azeez takes step forward by signing professional contract

Miguel Azeez is undoubtedly one of Arsenal’s standout prospects, and he took another major step forward in his development today by signing his first professional contract with the club.

Azeez, who turned 17 recently, is a midfielder who is composed in possession and is an England youth international, although, like many Arsenal youngsters, he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

Last season, when he was still a schoolboy, Azeez featured prominently for Arsenal at U18 level, helping Ken Gillard’s side to win the southern section title.

So far this campaign he has continued to be a key player for the U18s and also recently made his competitive debut for the U23s, having previously featured at that level during pre-season.

Possessing excellent close control, Azeez is a fine dribbler and occasionally finds the net with superb strikes.

One criticism that can be levelled at Azeez is that he is perhaps a little selfish in possession at times, but on the whole he is a very talented player.

Azeez will aim to gain as much playing time as possible for the U18s and, as the campaign progresses, will aim to break into the U23s on a regular basis.

With a host of central midfielders in the first-team squad, he may well have to be patient before getting a call-up for a cup game, but he is certainly heading in the right direction.

Am delighted to see him sign his first professional contract and hopefully, he’ll develop into a very good player for Arsenal and which ever country he choose to represent at senior international level.
