Arsenal are looking to get back to winning ways having been beaten 3-0 by Man City on Wednesday. Mikel Arteta has injuries and suspensions to deal with, and this is the team he’s picked to do the job today.
Brighton: To follow
Subs:
Arsenal: Leno, Bellerin, Mustafi, Holding, Kolasinac, Ceballos, Guendouzi, Saka, Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang
Subs: Martinez, Medley, Tierney, Maitland-Niles, Willock, Ozil, Nelson, Martinelli, Nketiah
A good old 4-4-2. Might just work
The way it’s written both here and on the official Twitter page suggests that Saka is a part of a midfield three
That’s where he should play
Isnt that a 4231 with Saka at LCM?
Agreed, midfield central midfield looks very light, Guendouzi and Ceballos together, does not feel me with confidence. Glad to see Lacazette back in starting line up.
That midfield! The aggressiveness and dribbles that drive us forward from Guendouzi, next to the silky skills and slick passing of Dani C. Brighton will be quivering with fear
Irony?
Really hope this is 4 4 2!
Good plan. Leave out Tierney & play the Serb. Should be good for a laugh.Plus, with Pepe playing, we might achieve a shot at goal this afternoon. Hope that it’s better than I think it will be!
Kola’s Bosnian.
Been mopey since city as it was so awful, this line up excites me for football again! Bt sport listed this as 4231 with pepe in the hole, this could be a great place for him. COYG!
Looks great. Let’s be positive – We are gonna smash it!
Tierney was one of the few players to come out of the City game with any credit.Kolasinac was terrible against Brighton in the home defeat earlier in the season…if my memory serves me right.Yet Kolasinac fonds himself back in the team…Hopefully Arteta has decided to go 4-4-2 otherwise the midfield is likely to be over-run once again .At least there might be some degree of defensive capability in numbers.
Tierney hasn’t played a game of football in over 7 months. Starting him twice in three days would be crazy.
Just crazy enough to work….nope, just crazy.
Plus we might need him at center half
That doesn’t normally militate against a selection
Finally some good news, David Luiz is not going to play any part in this game.
4-4-fackin’-2!
It’s crazy how many 1st team players we have on our books, but how close to breaking point this squad always feels
I agree.
Its called bad management and a desire to do as little as possible for the most amount of money…
Or is it a back three with Bellerin and Saka as wing backs, two in midfield and three up front?
Good point. That would make more sense than 442 with this line-up.
I reckon Saka is playing the number 10 role im up gor dome of that ?
up for some of that even
I’m hoping this would be 4231 with Lacazette at number 10, which I’ve wanted to see tried for a while. If it was 442 then a midfield 4 with half of them as natural wingers would be weird. But then any possibility with this line-up will be a bit weird.
Usual disinterested, turning up for the money performance from Arsenal.
The only way this will change is if we give more chances to the young players and sell the rest of them.
A bunch of mercenaries…
Fuck, seems we lost our best player to injury, hope isn’t something too serious for Leno, but damn
Seriously.. this club has to have gotten an hex on it or something. Hard to get back to being competitive when players starting to perform at their best always gets an long term injury. Bummed for Leno.
That was an ACL for sure. Done it twice myself. What I don’t get is how that’s not a straight red for Maupay? He knew exactly what he was doing. It was Arnautovic / Debuchy all over again. Just because it doesn’t look as bad as a double footer challenge, the results are the same. Serious action needed on this
Looked like hyperextension. If so, painful but not a long termer.
I hope….
He has been one of the few good and consistent players.
Today’s match has been a snoozefest so far!
That prick who did that to Leno shouldn’t be leaving the pitch in one piece.
The question was asked many times before the lockdown.
How exactly is Arteta an improvement over Emery?
This is exactly how the team played when Emery was in place. I have seen no improvement…
I’m not sold on Arteta yet, but they certainly aren’t playing exactly how they did under Emery. It’s not much better, but it’s different.
Emery must have imprinted his chameleon DNA very successfully. It takes more than 2 months + lockdown for Arteta to brainwash the players from Emery’s tactics.
Excellent questions.
The answer is that Arteta looks out of his depth. He may have good “ideas” and say nice sounding shit at pressers, but he’s been no improvement over Emery. The results are not there. Our football is slow, predictable crap.
The players look like they all just met yesterday in the park.
No urgency. No focus. No spine.
And no midfield to speak of. Ceballos is useless.
I mean what the actual fuck….
Yep spot on. The malaise runs very deep here.
Özil tactical absence again? What tactics? We are LOST!!
I am hoping that Brighton can go onto win it now.
Arsenal are spineless – anyone can beat them.
Come on Brighton…
We all have a pessimist in us but this is just absurd
Should we just forget Arteta and go all in for Pochettino ?
I am unclear why we didnt push harder for Ancelloti
Well shit me a ton of bricks! What a load of SHITE!!!
Arteta … he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Roberto Martinez mark 2
This makes me so angry!
Well Done Mikel!! Keep listening to Freddie and play all his boys and the other youngsters. We will continue to drop down the league…not climb up for sure.
It would be unfair to say Mustafi again cost us the game. Not that unfair. WTF is he doing? Opposition player with ball in our box, in added time, can’t be arsed to run with him…? Well, perhaps its improvement that he didn’t wildly just hack him down. Does it bother anyone else that Arsenal have no useful center backs…. Holding fucking around, unable to kick a ball off the line = goal #1 Mustafi fucking around not marking the man letting him run right around him to shoot on goal = goal #2. What do these fuckers… Read more »
He’s got it into his head that hard work and attitude are the most important traits in a footballer. I wonder if he thinks like that because of the way Guardiola works. The issue with that is that Guardiola makes great players work hard. He doesn’t favour bog-average ones that work hard over talented players.
What I can’t understand is that our 2nd highest goalscorer this season is actually one of those players that does work hard, yet can’t get into the team ahead of a couple of players that have done practically nothing between the two of them.
Well dont be surprised ok. Freddie.was one of Emery’s assistant. And he even got the manager’s job, tho temporary, playing most of his boys and ignoring the talented players. He is now still around as one of Mikel’s assistant. Can you see the common factor. So dont have to wonder why we are playing like the way Emery setup the team to play
I just go into hibernating mode and hope to wake up when my Arsenal can do attack and defense in one game..
