Leeds United look set to sign highly-rated Arsenal youngster Sam Greenwood in a deal that could see the Gunners net up to £3 million.
The 18-year-old striker was recruited from Sunderland two years ago and has been a regular scorer at under-18 level and was set to challenge for more game time at the under-23s this season.
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath claims Leeds will pay an initial £1.5 million with numerous add-ons making up the rest of the deal.
Deal for #LUFC Leeds to sign Sam Greenwood from #Arsenal starting at £1.5m rising to £3m with add-ons for England U18 striker. They are leading race but others like him. #ManUtd and #ACMilan have watched him

It’s said that both Manchester United and AC Milan have been keeping tabs on him amid reports he’s struggled to settle in London.
On his own blog, our resident Arsenal youth expert Jeorge Bird writes: “This transfer, if it does take place, also raises concerns about there being too many youngsters in Arsenal’s academy setup, which means some of the best prospects inevitably won’t wait around for long.”
In the last week, Arsenal have added four free agents, all under-21, to the Academy setup as they adopt a tweaked approach to youth recruitment.
Hope we don’t rue this one …
Would be nice if there was a sell-on clause
definitely should be a sell-on for a player that age.
Or a buyback clause as well..
Shame. He has great technique. I hope we at least have a first option buy back clause.
Reasonable fee (I guess) in the current market. A sell-on clause would be good as others have said, which is probably why Leeds won’t want one! The nagging worry is that he’s not been given a chance in the Under 23s. I hope we don’t regret this transfer, as we have others involving youngsters sold only to shine elsewhere. Anyway, only time will tell so fingers and toes crossed.
One side it make sense cos we truly have a lot of young strikers waiting in the ranks. Those that are already close to the first team and the ones still in the setup. John-Jules and Martineli are the likely to succeed Lacazette in the future, also Nketiah got potential depending on how he develop. On the other hand you look at it and think why can’t it just be a loan move? But it’s the player’s decision. He wants to play straight away and sort out his career. I can’t blame him. I hope those we keep and trust… Read more »
Sell on or buy back clause a must.
Bit disappointed by this one. Thought he was a far better prospect than balagun
I could certainly empathize with him if it’s about homesickness, but then seeing Milan in the mix makes me question that notion and wonder if it’s something else (though I suppose they might be interested and he wouldn’t be). Tough situation for us–not sure what more you can do other than insisting on a sell-on or buy-back clause.
I’d rather see us finding loan deals for players this age. Hope they develop and then either keep and play for us eventually, or sell on for a higher fee having proven themselves at a senior level.
Double the fee if the Mancs make an enquiry.
