Jonas Eidevall on January transfers: “We have ambitions to be active.”

Arsenal Women coach Jonas Eidevall says that the club “have ambitions to be active” in the January transfer window. Arsenal have lost Caitlin Foord, Lydia Williams and Steph Catley to the Asia Cup this month, with Mana Iwabuchi set to join up with Japan on 17th January too.

They also have injuries to Leah Williamson and Tobin Heath, with Anna Patten having joined Aston Villa on loan earlier this week. Asked by Arseblog News whether he expected to be active in the January window, Eidevall said, “We definitely have ambitions to be active during this transfer window.”

I asked specifically about Swedish striker Stina Blackstenius with speculation surrounding her. My understanding is that she is a target of interest for the club, “We only communicate things when they are official. There are many great players that could be a good fit for us here but you will all have to be curious and patient before we reveal anything. But hopefully in the coming weeks, we will have news.”

Arseblog News also understands that a central defender is on the cards to join in January too with a deal close. The Telegraph’s Tom Garry also asked Jonas Eidevall whether players with deals expiring at the end of the season were likely to extend too, to which Jonas responded, “Again, we will not communicate anything until it’s official but we hope to have news in the next few weeks.”

Great! Both the men’s& women’s team are gonna bolster their ranks when it matters!
Good Times!

I think Blackstenius is a done deal. I couldn’t understand why we were struggling at Centre back, why has never tried Anna there.

Henkamp

Wow! Since the last world cup I have always looked at Blacksteinus as a good option if we lost Viv. If it’s true she’s coming I’d be over the moon with that!

Lamzo

I think she could play with Viv is she stays.

Gonnerforlife

I think he is looking for more than one defenders to come or she has to be a class defender/rb to get anna on loan.

Peter Story Teller

There has to be someone coming in defence because without Steph, Leah and Anna, and Viki, Jen, and Simone regularly on and off of the injured list we’re pretty thin at the back!
You never know Fran might get a game too with Lyds overseas?

Lamzo

Is that defender Tuva Hansen?
Also defenders out of contract in the summer: Lucy Bronze, Dominique Janssen, Ashley Neville, Mapi Leon and Ona Battle. I still think Janssen could do the job because of her versatility

Geir

Hi Tim: Norwegian international Tuva Hansen are on the move to WSL, though the rumour locally say Reading as interested. Considering the success of Frida Maanum, she would be a good singing though.

Matt

Agree about Janssen, would be great to have her back.

verstellung

Agreed. She played excellently at CB in the Wolfsburg / Chelsea match-up

Peter Story Teller

Yes, I would welcome Dom back too but not in the back 3 or 4. Versatile or not I believe she had her best games in the middle of the park breaking up the opposition attack before they get too close to our goal which, strangely, is something we have struggled with since she left!
