Young goalkeeper Karl Hein has joined Reading on loan until the end of the season.
The 19 year old has yet to make his senior debut for the club, but has 12 caps for Estonia and the move to the Royals will see him provide back up for first choice Luke Southwood after they terminated the contract of number 2 Rafael Cabral last week.
Reading boss Veljko Paunovic said, “Karl is an international goalkeeper with good temperament, obvious ability and the hunger to improve and impress.
“He is a welcome addition to our squad and will increase the strength of our team for our remaining fixtures this season.”
Hein signed a long-term contract with the Gunners last year, and hopefully he can get some valuable first team experience during his time there.
He also follows in the footsteps of former Arsenal keeper Emi Martinez who made 18 appearances for Reading during a 2019 loan spell.
Best of luck to him!
Guess Leno has to hang around now until the summer. Newcastle could have done with him. I’m glad he’s staying
And I guess it means Okonkwo will be staying. Would like to see him loaned for experience next year if possible
Leno will be allowed to leave if we sign Matt Turner.
I hope this is the outcome.
I’d leave it until the summer though.
We have 17 games left and Ramsdale will play in all of them – with Leno a more than capable understudy.
No point signing Turner to not play a competitive game until at least August, when in the meantime he can get some more games in MLS.
Well there is if he is available. His value might continue to rise in until the summer and other teams come in for him. And if Newcastle are knocking on the door for Leno now that’s cash to spend elsewhere (up front might I suggest).
Fingers crossed he get’s the #1 job. I’m confident he’ll impress with the opportunity – as long as he gets it!
Hope he hasn’t gone there to be their #2.
We also should have waited until after the Papa John Quarter Final match tomorrow before loaning him out, but this is Arsenal we’re talking about.
It is clearly written that he has gone there 2 b their #2
No it’s not.
The amount of goals Reading concede he’s probably in with a shout of being 1st choice (just to mix things up)
Curious what happened with Rafael Cabral. He was their player of the season in 19/20.
On the subject on Championship loans – Balogun only on the bench again for Middlesbrough.
What was the point in him going there? He could have been on the bench for us against Burnley instead of Biereth.
He’s not going to stroll into the starting 11 unless they are desperate, a few decent sub appearances and weeks training and hopefully he’ll earn the chance. Clearly the BFG etc are monitoring loans closely and he’ll probably be recalled if he isn’t used regularly.
He should have joined a club in which he would have strolled into the starting team. That’s really the main point of a loan, to play full matches.
If he’s recalled then that’s useless as he won’t be able to join another team and will be stuck back with the U23’s.
I actually really wanted to see Biereth come off the bench recently, looked great against Chelski U23
Yep I would have given Beireth 10 minutes yesterday. Bring off Holding, switch to a back 3, stick Beireth up front.
BIG step up from Chelski kids to Burnley orcs! We saw how Patino suffered against Forest.
I think it’s partly education to show what life is like outside Arsenal. Merson always talks about how it came as a shock when he left.
Off topic but I notice arseblog’s morning article is about our situation with strikers and the fact it looks like a stellar purchase is not likely and that a solid back-up option is now being considered – I just wondered who might be being considered and/or who arseblog and the team would go for if they were going in Arteta/Edu’s shoes?
