From in-house chats to facing the local media, mixed zone appearances to 90 minutes shooting the breeze on Brazilian podcast Podpah, new signing Gabriel Jesus has been front and centre of a lot of the media work Arsenal have been doing in Baltimore and Orlando.
He seems to be enjoying himself and more than happy to share his first impressions on life as a Gunner and his new teammates.
Here’s a round-up of the latest bits and bobs.
On Gabriel Martinelli…
“Woah! Martinelli – he’s an animal. An animal! He never gets tired!”
On his new teammates…
“[They] at the club are so hungry, they’re desperate to get this club back to winning a Premier League after 20 years. This kind of challenge excites me a lot to be here.”
On playing with Eddie Nketiah…
“It was so good to play with him. Eddie has a lot of quality — he holds the ball, he’s stronger, he turns. He’s very good and he’s still young. I am too.”
On what his mum text him after the win over Orlando…
“I needed to play football with a smile on my face again. My mother watched our game [against Orlando City] and called me to say, ‘I can see you’re different, you’re playing happy!’ I got emotional hearing that.
On his place in the squad…
“Everybody at the club has received me so well. I’m two or three years older than most players here but they look at me as a very experienced player. I like that. I like to be a role model for other players.”
On working with Arteta previously…
“I’ve worked with him at City so I know him a bit. He helped me a lot to improve my finishing after training sessions.”
On sharing his experience with younger players…
“I’m not like this where because I’ve lived something that the youngers haven’t lived yet, I want to talk. I just show in the training session by working hard and that’s it. If they want to come to talk with me, they can.”
On Richarlison moving to Sp*rs…
“I hope that we can both end the season fighting for the Golden Boot because I like him. He’s a very good guy, amazing player, so I wish him all the best but not against us!”
I tell you I’m very excited about Jesus. This team is on the cusp of great things. An Europa league win will be a great start! #COYG!
“…but not against us!”
Jesus is a Gooner.
Not a true Gooner yet. We never wish sp*rs well against anyone. Actually every sp*rs loss is as good as an Arsenal win. I even took this to the next level. I got sacked on fifa manager mode taking sp*rs to the championship. Felt amazing.
I did this once on FM, added a second manager to manager spurs then sold all their top players to my club for pennies and bought all my deadwood for big bucks. I then went on an extended holiday and watched them plummet (was fairly quickly fired but they never truly recovered).
A lot of Positives going on.
Can’t help saying …….I love watching Martinelli
Him, Saliba and Saka need their deals renewed.
Sell the the Bellerins, Pepes and Torreiras.
Prospects like Sambi, Balogun and Tavares loaned.
Winger and midfielder signed.
🤝
I’d keep Sambi around. He can play Europa and cup games and stay with the group learning from Partey, Xhaka and Zinchenko with some sub appearances too. Don’t forget it’s 5 subs this season!
Who is “Him”? Jesus to be renewed?!
Martinelli
No, Martinelli not Jesus.
No, its Gabi not Gabe😀
Don’t think Sambi going on loan is going to happen. I have a feeling he will have a great season with us, as long as he’s not played in the lone pivot role.
Yeah I guess you’re right. I hope he’ll be loaned though, it would benefit him more to feature more prominently for a team over a season than play in carabao and Europa group stage for us.
I didn’t realise we had other family members of the players you want sold. 😂
What?
Ohhhh
It took me a while 😂
I’m predicting 20+ this season from this guy.
He is more than capable.
And, as I said before, if Eddie, Saka. ESR, Odegaard and Vieira can all hit between 5-10, plus 5-10 from the defence/defensive midfield, then that’s top four and perhaps a spanner in the title race.
COYG
Gabriel’s good for 5-10 himself from set pieces!! Brazilians just know how to score.
*forgot Martinelli – how could I….?!! 😂
This guy…. He is in contention to be on the back of my shirt. Love him already
Jesus got your back!
Amen 🙏🏾
“I hope that we can both end the season fighting for the Golden Boot because I like him.”
Fuck that! Richarlison can have an old spud painted with a gold pen at end of season instead.
Richarlison – the face, on the cock, on the top of a basketball, floating in their stadium.
I don’t think I would have guessed that Gabriel Jesus was apparently Zinchenko’s best friend at City. Maybe my own blinkers, but I guess I would not have picked a Brazilian and a Ukrainian as likely to hit it off. I think it’s cool.
Weird take but ok.
I think what he’s saying is that culturally they are pretty different and it would have been more likely for Jesus to be closer friends with other Brazilians or South Americans.
When he signed, he seemed different to me, happier, reinvigorated.
How interesting that exchange with his Mum.
Hopefully we have a beast that has finally been unleashed!
It might only be a friendly but Jesus has opened the scoring against Chelsea, whose main tactic appears to be trying to kick us off the park.
All’s Well That Ends Well😄
That text from his Mum is pregnant with meaning.
I wish Leeds had him let’s put it like that, having said that I’d take Satan playing number 9 if he could get as many goals and assists as Jesus will.
Seems a humble good man too I wish him all the best. I like arsenal I like how they play football, I think Jesus will do 30 goals in the PL & all competitions.
He feels the man and that’s a nice feeling
I am now seeing a good blended team with so much hunger. I am a serious Arsenal fun and can’t wait to see more development in this spicy team.. Eddie Nketiah is young but holds balls with maturity and that proves a quality player. I believe Jesus is very happy playing with the right players he wanted, and I could also see great joy on his face. Arteta is doing the work and I personally consider him the best coach for this team. So grateful to see a well blended team when Arsenal played Chelsea in Orlando. I believe and… Read more »
