Not for the the first time this summer, Nuno Tavares has been linked with a move to Atalanta.
The Serie A side’s head of recruitment, Lee Congerton, has had a long-standing interest in the 22 year old, going back to his time at Leicester City, and it looks as if the Italian side may well be in pole position to strike a deal this summer.
Nuno Tavares deal. Negotiations with OM are off since last week, news of deal progressing were ‘wide of mark’. Atalanta are still interested in signing him on loan, talks on. 🔴🇵🇹 #AFC

The arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko could well open the door for Nuno’s departure, with a season long loan mooted for the former Benfica man.
Clearly there is now a need to start trimming the squad, something Mikel Arteta was unequivocal about earlier in the week, and Tavares is certainly one of the leading candidates for a departure – especially in light of the arrival of another player for the left-back position.
I honestly don’t think the zinchenko signing kills his future with us, I think if he develops on loan and comes back able to do the basics on top of the qualities he has already he’ll be used as a hail Mary substitution tactic as an attacking wingback to chase a game. This would make a lot of sense when you consider that it will be 5 subs now, and chasing a game, if you have an improved Tavares that would be such a weapon. It makes me think of when Wenger used Chamberlain as a wingback during our fa… Read more »
Tavares has to learn how to keep his knee over the ball and shoot on target. If he can master this he’ll be worth keeping. At the moment he is great a running with the ball, but his defending and shooting need a lot of work. He reminds me of Adama Traoré all speed and strength, no end product.
This is a pretty good take for me. He’s a chaos player, just like Traore, bringing raw athleticism, and Traore’s end product did get marginally better as he grew older (although still far from perfect).
Also Tavares’ on-pitch demeanour is always so chill, he seems like a really cool guy who wants to play football and do well. I don’t quite know why but I honestly want him to succeed maybe more than any other player. I just like him.
If we have to rely on him to dig us out of a game, then there will be something seriously wrong.
😂👍🍺
Would prefer a Brighton loan and coaching under Potter. There’s good player in there.
I wouldn’t mind Atalanta and Gasperini and his attacking machine either. I have to admit I enjoyed watching them over the last couple of years simply because of how attack minded they are though they faded the second half of last season. Speaking of which they don’t seem to have a problem with having lots of wing backs as we do ourselves. Somehow they rotate the shit out of them and they all seem happy and committed. Tavares would replace Gosens who left for inter in January but he’d still be among around 6 players that play that role in… Read more »
Nuno is a fantastic dribbler and has wonderful athleticism. His difficulty is that his defending is too weak for full-back and his final product is too weak for winger – he’s caught in-between, a lot like the overrated Adama Traore. If he can nail down one of those two skills, he can have a fantastic career.
Hit the nail on the head Savage. For all the talking up of his attacking traits on here, ‘Nuno is a fantastic dribbler and has wonderful athleticism’ is a perfect summation. It’s just not enough.
A player prone to brain farts, I think we’ve had our fair share of them over the years. Wouldn’t mind seeing the back of him now we have adequate lb cover.
This. 👍😊🍺
He had a shocker against Orlando. Worst player on the pitch. Will do him (and us) good to go away and hone his skills on loan at Brighton or Atalanta. Gut feeling is we won’t see him again though.
Same feeling, he could develop into a great player but I don’t see any attributes that would get him into Pep or arteta team
Exactly.
Not sure about not seeing him again. You never knew a season of playing could sort out his faults. I think it’s very interesting the 3 teams that he’s been linked with. All 3 have a good record of developing players and have been successful in targeting promising players and selling them on for a profit. Some good judges of players see something in him.
Atalanta have a much better wing back in Mæhle. They are probably just trying do what Roma did when they loaned AMN from us.
If the aim is to move him on loan then get rid then Atalanta makes sense, if it’s to reintegrate him then Brighton would be better. A year playing more regular premier league football would be much better from that standpoint.
He does have a lot of good assets, we just can’t afford to let his bad points cost us.
Meh
where can I discuss that 4:0? 😉
I am also wondering why it is not yet up as a news story…
I’m a black cabbie, so I’ll gladly take him to whatever London airport he chooses and I’ll turn the meter off – no probs.
My treat. 😂
I see something in this young I wish others would see- a diamond in the rough no doubt.
