Mikel Arteta, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and William Saliba are all up for Premier League gongs following Arsenal’s fine start to the season.
After winning all five of their league fixtures in August to go top of the table, Arteta is in pole position to win the Manager of the Month award. He’s won it twice before in September 2021 and earlier this year in March.
Pep Guardiola, Antonio C*nte, Graham Potter and Marco Silva make up the numbers.
Captain Martin Odegaard and new striker Gabriel Jesus are up for the Player of the Month award for their contributions on the pitch. The Norwegian registered three goals in August while the Brazilian netted three times and made three assists.
Given Erling Haaland announced his arrival in England with nine goals and an assist, they probably don’t have much of a chance of winning. Nor do the other nominees, Pascal Gross, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Nick Pope, Rodrigo and Wilfried Zaha.
Jesus is also up for Goal of the Month for his dinked effort against Leicester. He’s joined on the shortlist by William Saliba who also opened his Arsenal account in spectacular fashion with a sublime curler against Bournemouth.

Great start to the season to be fair, let’s hope we’ll still be getting nominations come the end of the season 😊
Yes. Finishing in style …
Saliba’s goal was sublime. Least expected of the bunch nominated.
VOTE for Willy!
Saliba’s goal was brilliant but Jesus’s showed unbelievable technique. Saliba’s is so impressive because he’s a centre back but you see those goals more often than one like Jesus’s.
But then? It was with his left foot too.
Arteta should be the undisputed MOTM winner; POTM is out of reach; GOTM is Saliba for me.
Haaland is almost the perfect footballer. Big, strong, fast, sublime technique, exquisite finishing. If he stays healthy he’s on target to be an all time great. It’s almost cheating with him in the team. Imagine him up top with Jesus rotating with Saka, Gabriel on the wings and ode in the hole…alas.
Don’t care, quite like the club being bigger than the players again to be fair.
You’re a fan of shorter footballers?
But then imagine Arsenal fans – “FFS! He’s only had 8 touches in the first half. I know 3 of them were goals but he’s got to put himself about a bit more!”
“Imagine him up to with Saka on the right….”. That’s not really a happy thought. Because there’s only one scenario that’s possible and in that scenario Haaland wouldn’t be playing for Arsenal.
Haaland as POTM…..with an asterisk. I’m not doubting his quality or physicality, but the game gets easier if your club has spent a fortune on buying all the finest players in the world to get the ball to you in the box.
I can’t say anything negative about EH but I find myself puzzled how defenders don’t seem to pick him up. He might break the record this season for uncontested tap-ins. Is he really smelly or something?
Isn’t that what we’re doing? Spending a fortune to get the finest players we can to get the ball into the box for our forward(s)?
In the last five years our net spend (£440m) is more than twice as much as Man City (£204m).
