It has been an excellent season so far for Arsenal U21s, with Mehmet Ali’s side winning with regularity, and one of the most heartwarming sights of the campaign has been the impact made by Catalin Cirjan.
The Romanian midfielder missed the entirety of last season and at one stage it was difficult to envisage him getting an opportunity to make the breakthrough given the amount of game time that he had missed.
However, Arsenal retained faith in Cirjan, who signed a new contract towards the end of last season.
So far this season Cirjan has been one of the standout performers for Arsenal U21s and he has offered a significant goalscoring threat from midfield.
Cirjan’s dribbling and passing are also of a high standard, and the 19-year-old scored a brace today as Arsenal thrashed Swansea City 4-1 in the U21 Premier League Cup.
There has been first-team recognition too for Cirjan, who was on the bench for four of Arsenal’s Europa League group stage fixtures.
Cirjan will hope to be involved in the senior squad’s upcoming trip to Dubai and his dream of succeeding at Arsenal is very much still alive. After so long out, the youngster is relishing playing again and is certainly making up for lost time.
