Jonas Eidevall has admitted that Vivianne Miedema’s cruciate ligament injury does slightly alter his January transfer plans.
Arsenal have lost Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema to ACL injuries in the last four weeks, both of their top scorers and top assisters for the last three seasons.
Jonas Eidevall told Arseblog News in September he felt the squad was one attacker short and a fortnight ago he said he had a firm intention to try to bring someone in in light of Beth Mead’s injury.
Arseblog News asked Jonas Eidevall whether the injury to Miedema increases the urgency to bring in attackers in the January window ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League match in Zurich.
“Does Viv’s injury alter our plans in January? A little bit, it does. It makes the need for us to be more active in the January transfer window, of course it does.
“We have to take into consideration that if we are successful in all competitions, we could end up playing 26 matches from January.
“You need a squad that can handle playing all of those matches in a limited time, so it is a very important transfer window for us.”
Arseblog News understands that Ajax attacker Victoria Pelova is a firm target, we asked Eidevall about that link to which he, perhaps understandably, replied, “no comment.”
North Carolina Courage and Brazil forward Debinha is also likely to be on the market in January, while Arseblog News have heard suggestions that Arsenal are interested, we don’t have further information on whether a deal is likely at this time.
Striker crises everywhere we look
Getting Debinha would be a coup. She’s arguably been the best player in the NWSL for the last 3 years or so. Outstanding attacking player.
Hoping Rafa can convince her to join because there are a few other big teams that would want her
Europe football is harder than other, Rafa is a strong player but she only play 3 games in her first season, Tobin Heath similar case, Ibut is just my humble opinion.
We need a prolific goalscorer to continue the title challenge. Our alleged target before Miedema’s injury, Signe Bruun, has never been one in the French league. I hope the transfer plans will now focus on higher calibre of players than her.
I don’t think Bruun was ever a top target. On the list maybe but not top of it.
Pelova, Debinha and recall Gio?
Looks like we could be going that way
