The Telegraph’s Tom Garry and Sky Sports’ Anton Toloui are both reporting that Chelsea have made a ‘substantial’ bid for Arsenal’s Katie McCabe in the January transfer window.
The move comes as a big surprise given that McCabe has been at the club since 2015 and the unlikelihood that Arsenal would be prepared to sell to a title rival in the last knockings of the January transfer window. Arsenal have reportedly rejected the bid.
The Telegraph reports that McCabe, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024, would be open to talking to Emma Hayes and Chelsea but that Arsenal rejected a ‘substantial’ offer for the player.

It is an unwelcome distraction for Arsenal, who are still searching for a proven goalscorer in the window before Tuesday’s transfer deadline and Arseblog News understands that the pursuit of Canadian striker Cloe Lacasse from Benfica is proving complicated. Lacasse is in the Benfica squad for today’s match against Maritimo and is expected to play with the Portuguese club reluctant to sell one of their best players.
Transfers between Arsenal and Chelsea are very rare, for obvious reasons, academy player Silvana Flores joined Chelsea from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 but never made a first team appearance for either club. The last player to transfer between the clubs was Gilly Flaherty who left the Gunners for Chelsea in 2014 but, at that point, the Blues had yet to win a major honour in the women’s game.
I’m sure they knew beforehand that we wouldn’t sell, this offer is meant to destabilise us.
Fingers crossed for a striking addition for us, though. Feels essential.
Someone wants it out there. But my concern is willingness on player’s side, Chelsea wouldn’t move and this late in the window unless there was some encouragement.

I think they made move because we appear short on money for a “proven goalscorer” so they thought we might sell. As far as player side – players naturally all want money don’t they and Boehly making it rain.
Is this like the Geyoro situation in the summer though? Katie’s under contract so if Arsenal are completely unwilling to let her go, how much scope does she have to try and force a move? I am assuming no amount of money will persuade Arsenal right now of course.

I get there is more movement between WSL teams than in the men’s games due to the type of contracts. Buttt, she is arsenal through and through, same with L Williamson and Mead. The idea of them playing for our rivals is grotesque! I swear I’m getting more tribal.
