Arsenal were 9-0 victors over Leeds United in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round today. Jonas Eidevall spoke to the press post match, the first five questions are from Arseblog News.
On reports linking Chelsea with a move for Katie McCabe …
I didn’t speak to Katie about that, me and Katie have never spoken about her leaving. We only speak about what we can create here at Arsenal. There is absolutely no chance of that move happening.

On whether Arsenal will bring in a striker before Tuesday’s transfer deadline…
I’m hopeful, but if it hasn’t happened yet then of course it is not a guarantee. But it’s really important for us like I have been saying, it’s a big moment for us if we can be successful getting this player.

On how Pelova, Kuhl and Gio can contribute for the remainder of this season…
A lot, i think the difference with the players we’ve got and the subs Chelsea brought on against us (two weeks ago) is that their players are much older. They have played much more first team and international football and we have to see that a bit differently. I think with Victoria Pelova it is different, she has a lot of experience in Netherlands and with her national team. Gio and Katherine are considerably younger but I think you can really see the qualities that they can give us. They are very exciting and having brought them into the squad, already they are on a high level but I can see we can develop them short and long-term. I think that’s really exciting for the club because that’s going to put us in a strong position in the future as well.

On Michelle Agyemang scoring her first goal for the club…
It’s a really nice moment for her and the reception she got from the fans was a great experience for her. It sends a really strong message to our academy on what happens with hard work. In general, we left the second half with a really good feeling. There were some things we needed to correct on the first half but players were brilliant in doing so. It’s not just because we scored six goals in the second half. Our performance was much more wholesome and I always think that’s important. We owe it to the fans and it leaves everyone with a good spirit and and reminds us what we should be doing as a team.

On what the things that he wanted to correct in the second half were…
One of the things where we were not good enough was swinging the ball side to side. It took way too long to unsettle their positions. If you watch the game back you will see we changed our positions a little bit to enable us to swing it better. That pays off.
Another thing that is a key thing for me, when we defend long balls, if the ball starts to bounce, it means we are not compact enough and we’re not in a position to attack it. I think it happened three times in the first half, it didn’t happen in the second half. That’s always an important thing for me.

On why he selected a strong team…
Whoever we play it is to be a strong team. When you see the Villa game and this game here, everyone that we wanted to start started. The quality of the squad is strong. It was also good to be able to make four changes at half-time to get more players minutes.

On his team continuing to be ruthless..
On of our three values is to be 100% no matter the result, no matter the situation. That is so important that we constantly look to that. Sometimes we will be chasing the game and we will need to be 100%. Today we were leading but we still needed to be 100%. I think Leeds put up a great performance today, they fought so hard and you could see they did not give up. They showed great sportsmanship and even if they got tired, they kept going. I know this result will hurt them today but i think they can be really proud. The attitude and the performance from them was committed.

18.Marckese; 26.Wienroither, 6.Williamson (3.Wubben-Moy HT), 5.Beattie, 7.Catley; 10.Little (12.Maanum HT), 22.Kuhl, 21.Pelova; 20.Gio (17.Hurtig HT), 15.McCabe (59.Agyemang ‘76); 19.Foord (25.Blackstenius HT).
Great win!!!
Ouch. Not to kick someone when they are down, as I only saw the highlights posted here, but looks like their poor keeper had a shocker. At least half of those look like they should have been stopped.
They’re mostly part timers and were huge underdogs, it was a big occasion for them. The scoreline was a bit harsh but I think Arsenal were very respectful and there’s a nice clip of Leah Williamson exchanging her shirt with their striker. Classy Arsenal as always.
The first two goals, she definitely should have saved. But she also made two or three excellent saves afterwards.
I let more goals in, every sunday.
Which ones 4-5 were stoppable? Foord goal chanceless
Kuhl goal maybe
Little pg chanceless
Hurtig goal chanceless
2x Blackstinius goals chanceless
Ambeymang goal maybe
Pelova goal chanceless.
That leaves is with only 2 maybe saveables .
We do not onderstand tour comment.
Alsof why would add this kind of comment in women footbal. It looks like you are trying to downplay women footbal.
🎵Woooo-hooooo!! 🎵

First of all, full credit to Leeds United Women. Agree with these remarks from JE: I think Leeds put up a great performance today, they fought so hard and you could see they did not give up. They showed great sportsmanship and even if they got tired, they kept going. I know this result will hurt them today but i think they can be really proud. The attitude and the performance from them was committed. They defended brilliantly and never showed any sign of panic, either. It sounds weird to say this after winning 9-0, but they made us work… Read more »
“There is absolutely no chance of that move happening.”
Glad the McCabe gossip can be quickly put to bed and we can now focus on winning football matches
Arteta needs to keep that phrase in his mind, should Real Madrid want Odegaard back.
I was surprised to see how one footed Gio was.
Pavlova will be a beast and Kuhl has great feet a serious hustle.
Good match ! I think in the end it came to a class difference , which was probably expected pre match. Great to see the new girls (and academy talent) playing through today. Gio was great in the first half on the wing, which provides more options. Kuhl went beyond all my expectations, considering only being 19 she got stuck in and definitely deserved her goal /POTM. Pelova was great to , had to wait a while for her goal but it came- I can see what people mean when they say that they can see hints of DVD and… Read more »
Great to see our new players making such a contribution, hitting the ground running. And a bonus to see young players coming through – Michelle Agyemang scoring her first goal with let’s hope many more to come! Though she didn’t get on, it was interesting to see Katie Reid included in the squad; she’s been captain of England U16 where she plays with Michelle. The future’s bright. The future’s red!
Seems like the club is putting all the eggs in one basket to sign Cloé Lacasse. Let’s see if we will pay over the odds to secure her signature.
Almost certainly not happening, according to Tim’s Twitter account. They are still looking but basically they’ve got less than 48 hours to make something happen!
I have watched quite a bit of highlight videos and she seems to play almost exclusively left wing, so I not sure what the plan would be…
Wow!!! what a drubbing!!
