David Ornstein reports this evening that Gabriel Martinelli has agreed a new four and half year deal with Arsenal.

The 21 year old spoke last year about his desire to stay in North London, saying he only needed a pen.
However, his advisors were probably keen for him to be paid more than that, and discussions have been ongoing since. It now appears agreement has been found, ahead of an official announcement soon, reflecting his increased importance to the team since he became a first team fixture last season.
Martinelli joined the Gunners in the summer of 2019 from Ituano, and since then he has made 110 first team appearances, scoring 25 goals and making 16 assists. This season he has 7 goals and 3 assists to his name.
Hopefully this is the first of a number of new deals announced as Arsenal ride high in the Premier League. The club continue to hold discussions with Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, there has been talk of new terms for Aaron Ramsdale too.
Martinelli will fellow Brazilian Gabriel who put pen to paper on a new deal late last year.

I honestly think there’s not much to worry about with these 2. I think they’ll sign, and it will probably happen during the summer.
Any sensible agent would wait until then. A lot easier to demand more money for your client, if they’re dealing with a Champions league player and a (potential) Premier League winner

Yes exactly, don’t get this. Why didn’t arsenal get him to commit for 2 more years compared to the current deal since he would be earning 2-3x of his last salary. Maybe Arsenal has 1 or 2 year extention option over this that can be triggered later on.

I think martinelli had to be done before saka as that will be the bigger contract. Just my 2 cents
Yes, you’re probably right. I’m not too concerned about Saka as I suspect he’ll sign up soon. Saliba may prove the most tricky – although I believe he’ll sign as well. Getting all three will send out a big signal about the momentum of the Arteta/Edu “project”.

No surprises, but such a relief after all these months. I think he’s been playing with the handbrake on since the WC and the contract debacle was taking its toll. Hopefully with that out of the way he’ll get back to his best.
Think his role is different since the world cup and is affected by Jesus not being in the team. Martinelli is now asked to stay high and wide on the left with only xhaka to combine with as zinchenko inverts and roams (no triangle). Nketiah stays more central and the right pod is usually saka nketiah odegaard. Stats don’t tell the whole story but take a look at martinellis stats from the United game where most thought he was poor.

That is great news!! And I hope the club is sensible in deciding salaries and contracts, we do not want another Auba or Ozil situation in future. That said, I also hope whenever we need to sell we sell on our terms not by compulsion.

This an odd one. We only seemed to have gained 1 extra year in this contract. The old one ran to 2024 with a 2 year option the club could trigger.

Fuckin excellent. He’s exploded in the last two seasons. He is really fulfilling his potential. The sky’s the limit for this one. So happy he’s ours. Hopefully that encourages Saliba and Saka to follow suit soon.
