Arsenal take on Everton at Goodison Park this lunchtime, looking for a first away win against the Toffees since 2017.
Here are the official line-ups.
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Tarkowski, Coady, Mykolenko, Gana, Onana, Doucoure, McNeil, Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin
Subs: Begovic, Holgate, Gray, Mina, Maupay, Godfrey, Davies, Vinagre, Simms
Arsenal: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Saka, Nketiah
Subs: Turner, Tierney, Holding, Tomiyasu, Kiwior, Jorginho, Vieira, Trossard, Cozier-Duberry
Partey starting, hope he’s sound and not taking a risk. CoYG, let’s remind Dyche what a tough job he’s in for!
It would be foolish of Arteta to risk Partey if not fully fit, particularly with the City game looming. We’ll see if he plays the full 90 minutes though.
You could argue that risking him for this game makes more sense as it is a more winnable game. If we lost this, we could potentially lose 6 points to city in 7 days
He didn’t and he wasn’t up to it
Lfggggggg
Bench looks good
Very true. We are have a comfortable lead, I will like to see Jorginho come on for Partey at some point on the second half.
Hopefully when it’s 4-0
Wow, we are looking like a proper squad now, look at that bench even with a few injuries!
So excited, COYG
Yeah, and when ESR and Jesus are back in the mix then that is a damn strong bench. Kiwior or Holding will have to be dropped from the match day squad I assume.
Holding will be sold eventually.
What a dream if we could sell Holding having watched him earn a Premier league winners medal.
Come on boys. Fuckin smash those toffees
Why sell Holding? He’s proved a very good stand in and rarely lets us down when he plays. If he’s happy being a squad member, then we should keep him.
Yea, “rarely lets us down” but the performance at Spurs last season still rankles. We might have seen a repeat at The Etihad if Arteta didn’t act at half time.
I think he’ll be sold in the summer. We’ll certainly have CL football so the demand on the squad will be higher. We need a better option from the bench.
I like Rob Holding, but unfortunately he definitely has a clanger or two in his locker – so an upgrade sooner or later will be regrettable but necessary.
We don’t need four right sided center halves in the side.
Holding is ‘The Glue’
Aaron Ramsdale 2023
Plus Nelson in for Cozier-Dubery.
Yeah, squad depth is great.
Reckon Jorginho takes over the see-out-the-game role from Holding
COYG!!!
Great news and it’s good to have such a strong looking bench. COYG !
Strongest possible team and strength on the bench as well. COYG!
Hopefully score early and their fans will get on the teams back.
they are there for the taking, so let’s put ‘em to the sword.
C O Y G.
Let’s beat them, guys. COYG!!!
Good news. I doubt Arteta would have risked him if not fully fit. It’s the strongest available team so really should be enough to get the three points.
However, a new manager may encourage a better home performance from Everton (with players playing not only for places but, possibly, their future at the club) so we can’t take anything for granted – and I’m sure we won’t.
I know , I know, one game at a time. But if we win the next 3 games I’ll have completed the transition from top four hopeful, to title sceptic, to dreamer, to being stone cold certain it’s coming back to us.
Let’s do this thing, it’s been far too long.
Win our next three and we go 11 clear of City having played the same number of games.
Definitely within our reach.
COYG
Yes, but the hoary old saying “Take one game at a time” comes to mind here, I think.
City could drop points too, so it may even be more than 11.
Allow yourself to dream a little, mate. 😉
Hmmm. I think I’ll still take a game at a time.
That is if City win their next two games: Spurs away and Villa home. I expect them to drops points in one or both of them.
I forgot to mention that too! Beat me to it!! 😂
That’s on the assumption that City beat both the Spuds and Villa.
Thank goodness Thomas is able to start
Dyche will have them (Everton) fired up to kick and spoil wherever possible, a la Newcastle.
But if we control things in midfield and hopefully grab our customary early goal, then we should be ok
Won’t be easy though; this looks like the proverbial banana skin, so hopefully we turn up, do our job, grab the points and get out of Dodge ASAP back down the M1 with all three points.
COYG
Yeeep Everton as a fixture is nothing scary this season, but facing a newly appointed Sean Dyche you know it’s probably not going to be a fun game of football. Early goal will definitely change all of that & we generally have been starting fast out the blocks this season.
We don’t have a particularly good record recently at Goodison Park and a new manager coming in can result in a “bounce” in performance for the team.
I think it may either be a relatively comfortable win for us or (if the “new manager factor” does kick in) a much closer, tighter, game than we would like. Anything less than the three points there will certainly be a big disappointment though.
Scenario two turned out to be correct (unfortunately).
It’s good to see Partey in the lineup, and that means he is fit, which is very important.
Cannot be as bad as last season – please!
I strongly suggest partey should be on bench for second half. We need him fully fit for man city match. COYG.
Let’s smash the Toffees today. COYG!
Chew the Toffees up and spit them out
I don’t like Sean Douche
😀
They’ve had better chances than us so far
Pretty poor by Arsenal in the first half really. As suspected, the new manager has had an effect on the Everton team (so far, anyway). A big second half improvement is needed, particularly if we want the three points.
Omissions from Everton lineup are the nbc sports commentary team and this Mr bean looking ref
Arsenal haven’t even got started yet.
Its going to be one of those days..
Partey, odegard and Martinelli have been flat today
Partey , Odegard,Martinelli and White were all flat today
Fit? Not going by how he played. Woeful
We do seem to save our worst performances for Everton away.
We didn’t (and still don’t) have a good record against them in recent seasons. It’s a wake up call though – we put out the strongest available team but Everton could have won more comfortably really.
Not the end of the world of course (and hopefully Sp*rs can do us a favour against City), but it does reinforce the fact that there’s a long way to go yet.
Deserved loss. Everton wanted it more. So many players off their game
We deserved nothing and we got nothing.
Very little attacking threat against a team that was apparently in chaos this morning.
It is very well to bully teams to victory, but we have to have an answer when they do it to us.
If it is any consolation.
When we lost to Man Utd our next game was Brentford and we went on a great run.
Our next game is..
Brentford at home.
Time to pick ourselves up – all the teams below us have lost games and we simply didn’t deserve anything today..
