Sabrina D’Angelo starts in goal for Arsenal against Leicester City Women in the WSL this evening at 7.30pm. The formation is not entirely clear from the read-out but it looks as though Lotte Wubben-Moy could be playing at right-back with Noelle Maritz at left-back and Steph Catley rested to the bench.
In midfield it looks like a Lia Walti, Victoria Pelova and Frida Maanum trio, with Katherine Kuhl and Katie McCabe wide of Stina Blackstenius upfront. Lina Hurtig is not in the squad having only just returned from a foot injury against Wolfsburg.
14.D’Angelo; 3.Wubben-Moy, 2.Rafaelle, 5.Beattie, 16.Maritz; 13.Walti, 21.Pelova, 12.Maanum; 22.Kuhl, 15.McCabe(c); 25.Blackstenius.
Subs: 1.Zinsberger, 7.Catley, 18.Marckese, 20.Gio, 27.Taylor, 29.Goldie, 59.Agyemang, 62.Reid.
Hope to see Agyemang in place of Kuhl in the second half.
Phew! Brilliant stuff, girls. We could have done with playing this game on Sunday as was originally scheduled as we were not fully recovered from the CL game – and of course Leitzig’s penalty save made the game so much harder than it could have been.
Jodie Taylor earning her corn, Frida Maanum wondergoal. Job done.
But I’m now praying for Steph Catley. We’re losing a player a game, it seems. Vicious cycle – each injury puts more load onto the remaining players, some of whom are walking wounded anyway. Can we please catch a break, football gods? Please?
We’ll be fielding the academy side by the time Villa come to town at this rate.
A win is a win though and another 3 points on the table even if we didn’t stretch our goal difference by much!
