The Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand kicks off in four weeks’ time and countries are beginning to announce their squads and assemble for training camps. Arsenal will have well over ten players at the tournament which runs from July 20 until August 20.
Already confirmed to be going is Lotte Wubben-Moy who will form part of the England squad. Sweden have confirmed their final squad too with Arsenal’s Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig part of Peter Gerhardsson’s squad, as well as central defender Amanda Ilestedt who I expect to sign for the club in the coming days.

Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord are part of Australia’s provisional 29-player warm-up squad and are certain to make the final 23 so long as they are not injured. Frida Maanum is confirmed in the Norway squad, while Lia Wälti and Noelle Maritz are in Switzerland’s preparation camp. Wälti is still recovering from an ankle injury but says she has a chance of playing some minutes in a pre-tournament friendly, otherwise she will be fit for the opening game. Wälti is the Swiss captain.
🇨🇭 captain, Lia Wälti, is approaching the World Cup preparations cautiously after suffering an injury in May.
🗣️ “At that point, I thought: ‘Hopefully, I’ll get away with just a bruise.’ That’s why I’m very satisfied with how it turned out.”https://t.co/dN9PsGJeIA

Sabrina D’Angelo is in the Canada squad alongside forward Cloé Lacasse, whose signing I am also expecting to be confirmed in the coming days. Katie McCabe will captain Ireland, while Victoria Pelova has been named in the Netherlands squad and Katherine Kuhl is in the Denmark squad. Beth Mead, Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema miss out due to injury
Really looking forward to seeing some of players in the flesh,COYGG,whoever you play for
Is Amanda left footed?
Good question
No
Is there any chance for Portugal and Tatiana Pinto to be added on the list?
Hope so, really nice player and we have been linked. But I’m not 100% across it at the moment.
Are you not “100% across” with Russo, Tim?
No update on what we reported last week. Don’t expect any update before July 1st and if there is an update that is probably bad news!
Very exciting news. Feels so good to have confirmation about a couple of signings. I can start to enjoy the World Cup build-up now.
I hope Lia takes it nice and slow, Katie too.
The plan is for Katie to be rested for Ireland’s friendly tonight against Zambia. She only joined the camp on Monday, having been given an extended break following her long club season.
Looking forward to watching the Arsenal/Switzerland players here in Dunedin. Disappointed Miedema won’t be here for the Netherlands, would of loved to see her playing. Will be a great tournament, hopefully NZ fans turn up. For the record, football is played by far more people than thugby here, which is driven mainly by marketing and nationalistic hype bs. Time for the beautiful game to shine! Thanks for the comprehensive focus, Arseblog.
I’m going to the games in Wellington, like you disappointed Viv won’t be playing, but looking forward to seeing Victoria & some of our ex Gunners as well as Stina & Lina for Sweden hoping to see some of the others depending on results
